Patrick Stewart was my “I can be bald and not care about what others think” role model. I started losing my hair at 16, and he was the reason I didn’t care.
As someone that went bald fast in his late teens, Patrick Stewart knows the struggle. I'm fine with it now as an adult, but as a balding 19 year old it's rough on you, especially when you don't have access to a good wig-maker.
I always found that wearing a wig is somehow worse. Going from long beautiful hair at 16 to completely bald at 20 was rough, but I shaved off what was left and kept my bald head high. It was tough, but I never showed it.
If i remember correctly, he said in the past that he had 2 friends have an intervention with him. They held him down against his will and shaved off the comb over, and he was so upset and traumatized about it, but then ended up accepting it when he realized girls would still date him. I've liked him since Dune 😉
It's amazing to see Patrick Stewart look this way and sound so coherent. The last time he wore a beard like that he spent most of his time shouting about the anomaly in the Devron system... (TNG fans, IYKYK)
This is still so true about London, as an American who lived there for ten years. You get thrown in with people from all over, and you learn that we all have much more in common that we do differences. I really miss that.
Mr. Stewart looks great with that epic beard! Also, glad to see him looking well. He looked very tired in the few episodes of Picard S3 that I watched.
Conan found it amusing, and I laughed a bit but the discrimination used to be very real. The no irish allowed signs used to be up not only in England but in most east coast cities as well.
He had such a powerful presence on Star Trek. In universe the character could have hair if he wanted by why bother, power move. They tried screen tests with a wig, I am glad it was decided against.
Roddenberry was against it. someone at the studio said 'in the 24th century they would have a cure for baldness' and Roddenberry responded 'in the 24th century nobody would care'. They did screen test him with a wig and he looked so preposterous that the studio backed down.
My Dad is Irish and was working in London at the time in London, my dad was from a very poor background also, 1 of 8 and his father was a ploughman. My dad did service in the Congo in 1961 as an Irish UN peacekeeper. He's 84, difference between himself (Andy) and Patrick, Andy has a full head of wavy white hair and had the old age pension, Patrick Probably has a few more Bob in the bank lol😅. I like Patrick Stewart, very grounded man, came from a poor background and deserves everything he got in life. Conan and the Paddywhackery again 😅😅😅
Same Boat here, Started balding at 16, I was destined to go bald obviously My Dad was Bald not that that means All people with bald parents become bald but my dad was totally George From Seinfeld by 21. I took steroids at 16 ans my hair started coming out so I believe it speed up the process of the male pattern Baldness. I stopped jucing and I stopped blading and thankfully it went kind if slow, Im from Jamaica Queens NYC and Grew up as Hip Hop head in the Hip Hop Era so I always wore hats, Hoodies etc. When I was 27 my Father and I went to see Die hard 4 and that was the first time I ever saw Bruce totally skinned and He looked amazing, a lot younger a lot cooler etc, as soon as we left that theater I dropped pop's off and went to my barber and said shave it all off, He was like what a 1 clip? I said no string Blade it, lol Best choice I ever made in my Life, I love having a bald head it fits me, I have been rocking a full beard since I was 16 also, I jave had beards and Goatees of all kids since I was 15 but the Bald head, Full beard look fit Me the best, Im 46 now so its 19 years shaving my head, Now the male pattern baldness is over, If I go a few days without shaving I have the George Costansa look lol its all gone except the sides and back. Some men are just meant to be bald.
So.. before this bit of the podcast there was mention of bathwater. Specifically how an 8 year-old(?) Sir Patrick would have to suck up twice used bathwater through a hose... And then the story is abruptly ended by an appropriately horrified Conan. But I am left with this question... For the love of all that is holy.. WHAT DOES HE DO WITH THE BATHWATER?????
Patrick Stewart was my “I can be bald and not care about what others think” role model. I started losing my hair at 16, and he was the reason I didn’t care.
Same here brother! :)
It's kinda hard to imagine Sir Patrick Stewart with hair. He owns his looks totally.
But hey, Yul Brynner rocked his baldness beautifully, so why shouldn't Stewart 😊
Sir Patrick Stewart is the Ambassador of bald men, We all can only hope to pull off the bald look like he has.
His bald head is kind of his signature, it's iconic. That and his voice.
Don't forget the enormous dong
Keep the English guy, but lose the wig.
@@terrylong8894Rick Berman said hearing those words were one of the highlights of his career.
Also being a fantastic actor
@@augurseer Patrick Stewart genuinely deserved to win an Emmy for his body of work on Star Trek.
He looks exactly like "All Good Things" Picard. I love it when life comes full circle. Sir Patrick Stewart is a legend!
4:03 he not only remember the tough times, you can still hear it in his voice

It really is, I was the only one in my family that lost his hair so young. Tbh first my mother then my ex wife stressed my hair out

Thank you, Conan, I could listen to Sir Patrick, forever. 💖
Can't imagine Picard with hair. The bald look is so badass.

Never been to New York I see. I also lived in London and that aspect isn’t much different.
@@mavfan1But in London, as opposed to New York, I was not in my home country. Makes it a different experience.
Were the people hospitable? I know insofar as New Yorkers are concerned they can be very unfriendly.
NY sucks imo. I liked London, but I’ve only visited both, not lived.
This was a lovely interview, good episode!
Mr. Stewart looks great with that epic beard! Also, glad to see him looking well. He looked very tired in the few episodes of Picard S3 that I watched.
I can't imagine him with hair. He is one of the few who can pull off a bald head. And his iconic voice.
My FIL is Irish, born in 1937, and he's the sweetest man I've ever known.❤

Just looking back at how Patrick Stewart looked in the Encounter at Farpoint premier, it's fascinating that he was only 49 when that episode was shot.
He was born in 1940, and that episode premiered in 1987... so he may have been 46.
I need to hear him say: Make It So.
Sir Patrick Stewart is 110% awesome
Even though bald, Patrick still looks rugged
He has always looked great bald. It helps that he has a strong, handsome face
Patrick Stewart in I, Claudius with a curly haired wig is my favorite
Conan you look good in glasses….Patrick is a legend.
His voice is so iconic
Between 20 and 22 my hair went from edward in twilight to dracula with leukemia
I went completely bald by the time I was 21. Thank you action movies and Michael Jordan for making bald OK by the time I was an adult!
I thought I was the only one shouting out Michael Jordan for making bald cool. Good to see another person doing it. Cheers!
Jordan, Jason Statham, The Rock, Vin Diesel, Shaq all look great.. Bruce Willis made the 'balding' look look great!
Patrick was destined to play professor Xavier
"Do you wear vigs? Will you wear vigs?" -Dominic Monaghan
Only Conan could say, "We'll get you a leprechaun wig!" and pull it off. LOL!
Patrick Stewart is the best! 🎉

"HI, I'm Patrick O'stewart. Top of the morning to ya, lads!
How come there's no way to watch the full episodes of this? Going to the website only gives me the uncut audio version.
He should play a Jedi Master with this look
Amazing voice
But what about the rubber tube in the bathtub!? We need to know!
Ya, they cut off that part of the other video at the best part!
I love you Patrick :)
The man was made to play Xavier.
Told he was born to wear wigs... told he was circumcised... he was told a lot of weird things.
😅😅 a Graham Norton fan, I see...😅
Pizza Suprema was my go-to when I worked on 34th between 8th and 9th. If you’re around Penn, it’s the place to go.
I rarely watch each podcast/RUclips video more than once, (sorry) But this one I did. Awesome beard Patrick Steward. 🖖
The first thing I saw him in was Excalibur
This is amazing.
Warp Speed 2. Engage!
Never had much attachment to my hair, started thinning in my 30's so I was glad to just go bald instead.
I remember seeing pre-Season 1 test shots of Picard with hair and it just didn't look right. Glad Sir Patrick got to be himself.
Stewart hosted one of the best episodes of SNL from the early 90s. All of teh skits were bizarre. I wonder if Conan was there writing some of them.
"Salt and PEPPAAA!"
Patrick Stewart makes up for his baldness with an unbelievably fantastic beard.
The Goddess made a few perfect heads, the rest she covered with hair!
Sir Patrick Stewart was going to Pixar Animation Studio and Sir Patrick Stewart wants to perform Fantastic Beasts.
Shush
How do you watch full interviews?
Look for the podcast
Is it true that Sir Patrick has a huge collection of Beavis and Butthead memorabilia? I've heard that before
Not sure about the memorabilia, but he's an obsessed fan and once said that B&B "will be singled out as a very, very important cultural phenomenon."
Sorry, but when he played Sejanus in "I Claudius" it looked silly.
I was born to wear wigs too.
He went bald so early, and was famous for so long as a bald man, it lent him an ironic agelessness.
😂😂
That voice
I'm still waiting for that movie where the clothes fly off.
Conan where is my billion dollars
I can't even imagine him with hair, he just has the perfect head for bald, I think he would actually look worse with hair.
He’s attractive without hair but with hair (wig) he was super hot

Internet has entered the chat. Not before hearing him say that he has worn some wonderful wigs in his career.
🤍
Man looks even frailer than I remember but seems he's still got fight left in him.
He is like 150 years old.
I think he looks pretty good for 83
@joelww2501 Incredible would be Shatner, who is pushing 100 while still looking younger and more spry than Stewart. It's not harsh to admit this.
His diction has become much less crisp. He sounds not just more gravely but more slurred. Was he just suffering from a cold?
I think it's just age, his voice was like that in the Picard series as well.
