I watched a clip of the first television show that Patrick Stewart was on. It was in black and white, had a poor production quality, and terrible picture. Stewart played a fireman walking through a building after a fire. I couldn’t make out which character was Stewart, and then he started talking. That voice imbedded the fuzzy scene in my head.
The show was from the mid sixties, maybe 1964.
We are truly spoiled that Sir Patrick Stewart is not just one of the best actors of all time but one of the funniest and kindest people of all time.

Patrick Stewart is one of the living memories of how far humanity has come in a mere 75 years. desperate poverty is incredibly rare now in most parts of the world, but pre WW2 was commonplace. electricity, running water, housing, food... we take for granted now.

My grandmother grew up poor in Dublin and her childhood home was nearly identical to Patrick Stewart's. The house is still there today but thankfully has running water and an indoor bathroom now!

Picard's beard in the finale "All Good Things" is similar to this, but was probably fake due to the shooting schedule with Picard having to appear cleanshaven in other scenes.

I first "met" Patrick Stewart when he played Leodegrance in Excalibur. I always remember the role because Patrick's character doesn't hesitate to swear allegiance to Arthur.

I was touched by Sir Patrick Stewart once, during a Shakespeare Santa Cruz performance. I don't remember the play, but he played someone of some import, and as he ran down the aisle, dressed in a white tunic, tapped my shoulder, in character, asking me to recognize the gravitas of the situation. In the 30+ years since, I have not washed that shoulder.

When I was 4, my hippy mom had us living in a house with no running water or electricity. There was an old Franklin stove, for heat and cooking. There was no toilet, but the outhouse was a double-seater. I was 4, so I thought it was totally normal.
