    Thank you, Dede, for your courage to groom Sammy.
    Let me share Sammy’s story. He was abandoned in a home with a bag of food. My BIL found him, in poor health. After many $ at the Vet, he is now healthy. My BIL could not keep Sammy, so we adopted him. Sammy must have been mistreated, in the past, and now protects himself with his quick bite.
    Before I found Dede I felt cornered. No groomer would groom him because he tried to bite them, and I could not give away a dog that bites. I am forever grateful for Dede. Not only has she groomed him, she has taught me behavior modification tactics to help in the care of Sammy.

      It is so extremely painful. Can't the dog be sedated at the vet and than hair plucked. I know it is important to prevent eat infection. but there has to be a less painful way for the dog. This poor dog can't even see out of that muzzel. If it requires that kind of muzzel the dog definitely needs to be sedated.

      Its like me telling you to stop squirming while I torture you. Obviously cleaning an animal is understandable, but doing a procedure that is excruciating and treating the animal like its being bad is just plain stupid and immoral. Just because its cries are the words "Help! & Oh God please stop!!" Doesn't mean we have to be indifferent to its pain because of those were the words coming out of its mouth, she would have in fact stopped and wouldn't have been telling the thing "No No & Thats enough!" or at the very least showed more compassion towards it.

    I have always had poodles. Ear plucking was a weekly routine. After my first poodle had so many problems because I didn’t know about ear plucking and started him late I made sure to start the others on it when they were puppies.
    The dogs would actually lay down in my lap and tilt their heads. It was a routine they seemed to love and appreciate. And I had groomers amazed at how good their ears were and how much the dogs loved being groomed.
    I can’t even imagine letting the ear hair get like this and the pain and discomfort it caused the poor pup. Good job getting it out!

    Well, I got news for the commenter. The vet expects the groomer to do it. As Dede has said countless times on her videos. As well as, I've heard from other Groomer's videos. A vet is not going to stop. In the middle of his more urgent cases. Just pull ear hair. Unless, it a highly aggressive dog. That no one can handle and has to be drugged. It's not pleasant for the dog. It's for the well being health wise for the dog. We can offer our opinions, but at the end of the day. We are not professional groomers. We have to respect. Dede knows exactly what she's doing. The gear is not cruel on his face. When your doing this type of work. Safety should be the number one concern. For the groomer/dog. ❤️👍👍

I took my time to let our dog get used to praises and reprimands and had to get him used to being touched certain places for cleaning and grooming, which also helped with his food aggression/panic. One time you need 6 hands it looks rough but iv had to be rough on critter to a point most would think it’s cruel but when their in pain it can’t be helped it’s more harm to let it go than fix it and when it heals up or cleared they are way more happy and better

    Are the sounds you're making meant to confuse him so he doesn't bite? Whatever it is it seems to be working 🙂

    • @mmchealy
      @mmchealy 3 года назад +67

      Yes. It’s akin to slightly shaking an area on a cat when giving a shot, it confuses the nervous system and gives them something else to focus on

      Yup redirection, the technique is used a lot while restraining animals, I tend to tap on the dog's body and/or scratch the head when they're about to get something done

    • @windler763
      @windler763 2 года назад +5

      goes for touch too, and it helps a lot with drying dogs. most dogs dont like the dryer on their head (for very good reason, i wouldnt like it either lol) so i find that scratching their head or their butt when im trying to edge up the neck can help to distract them

    I have done dog training sessions alongside groomers working on my "difficult" dog clients. Dogs are very quick when they are stressed! Especially the little guys. She did a great job. Groomers that will take on difficult clients do not get enough credit (there are many that will not!). The alternative if the pet parent cannot find a groomer to work with their dog. Is to have them put under anesthesia at a veterinarian office for a shave down, nail trim, or ear plucking. With a brachycephalic (short snouted dog), putting them under anesthesia can be extremely risky. I have seen my groomer colleagues with some pretty terrible injuries 😕

    You're brave to take this on. It seems like something he should almost be put under at the vet to clean, but anesthesia can be so expensive and vets likely expect groomers to handle anything to do with fur. Thank you for giving him some relief!
