- Even though it's better built than the CRX, smoother than the CRX, safer than the CRX...I rather have a CRX. I just switched to boxer-briefs and it will take some time to adjust.
Del Sol? More like Del SLOW! HUAHUEHUEHUEHUEHUEHUEHUEHUE - Авто/Мото
I bought a Del Sol about a year ago, and some guy pulled out in front of me and T-boned me and totaled the car. Talk about loyalty; went out and bought another Del Sol a week later. Damn, I love this car.
Do you still own yours? I consider buying one next week
Had that happen to me just a month ago. DEL SOL #3 BABY!!!
Gimme a del Sol Si in Samba Green Pearl and I will cruise off into 90s retro-land and NEVER COME BACK.
+andxx0r_the_second Oh GOD, yes!
+andxx0r_the_second hell yes
+andxx0r_the_second A E S T H E T I C ™
+andxx0r_the_second You mean portland, where the dream of the 90's still lives?
+Isaac W. Portland is a crack cocaine death dungeon now, shootings everyday, and a copious amount of gang activity.
You forgot the best part of this car. Driving in the rain with the targa down. The roll bar is purposely shaped like an aerofoil to draw wind away from you. So anything above 30mph and your dry as a bone while you have the rain slipstream around you. Its a really surreal experience too bad the trunk will have several inches of standing water but that is what the bucket and sponges are for. Well not just that.
For moppin up what the ladies leave behind, amirite!?
I wanna try this but I don't wanna get wet. I guess this explains why the faster I drive the less it leaks
I can testify to this! The day I bought my del sol I had to take the top off and it rained and it was a a surreal experience
I wanted to get a del sol but i found a good deal on a mk5 gli, one day i will get one
@@ElNelsonMundo I want to buy a del sol, Is it worth it??
Will my interior have water leaking if it rains??
how legendary would this car be if it was actually mid engined?
Gslash25 then it would just be... A Honda mr2? Meh rwd would be nice though
I have one and I plan to try converting it to RWD Rear Engine.
Too bad I have the 1.5l but at least I bought it at 147k miles
People have done it, look it up on youtube.
The rear window wouldn't of gone down. Otherwise you'd be getting engine fumes in the cabin.
It would be legendary but imagine it’s future if it was mid engined
stock honda from 90s? this is a rare pepe
+Fillipe356 haha "rare pepe". like the meme, right? so funny ahah
+MuscleDad420 420 meme more funny XDDDDDDD
+Fillipe356 I like the one where the dad dashes through the window. rare pepe is lame after tumblr took it
+MuscleDad420 REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I think the Del Sol is awesome.
me too man I really love this little car.
I have owned 2 of them, and have to agree. I will own a third again one day once I get some other priorities sorted.
same
Whiskeyfox I used to own a 94’ now I have a Porsche boxter
Ford blows! Honda is great! Ford had an ' hand crank, u til Nikola Teska invented the alternator.Yawn.The original Miiatia used'- Tesla's rotary engine design. Now that'sthats the rotary society on wheels! ( Walls? Anyone talking tires here???) Than.
"You shift it hard and rough like you've forgotten the safe word"
lmfao you kill me man.
The Del Sol is far from the worst Honda and is quite a remarkable car that serves as the awkward adult transitioning from his crazy teenhood (CRX) to his full potential (S2000).
But, unlike the CRX or even the S2K, the Del Sol isn't instantly likeable. It takes time to get to know it, but once you do, you love it. Suddenly those angles that you weren't sure about at first are beautiful and the headlights delight you in too many ways to count.
The Del Sol is a great car just looking for a second chance, it may have failed the first time, but please! it cries out, I swear I won't fail you this time. And it doesn't.
+TheS2Guy CRX and Del Sol aren't even in the same league as the S2000... The CRX and Del Sol were just jazzed up Civics... The S2K, is a completely bespoke, entirely from the ground up, uncompromising sports car. In fact, I'd say the S2K is more like the Acura/Honda NSX's little bro, than the a fully matured CRX/Del Sol.... According to Honda, that car would be the CRZ. Shame they never did a CRZ Si with the K20 : /
+bliglum I think you might have missed the point. He wasnt trying to say that any of them are in the same league. He wasnt trying to compare the three cars. He was trying to point out how they are linked in the manner of style. I get it. Its kind of like trying to link the Boxster, Cayman, and 911. They are linked in a manner, but one would never confused the Boxster and Cayman for a 911. Take it easy, breathe and dont be so defensive.
SgtSeth That's exactly what I was getting at.
You act like I exploded in a fit of rage, a veritable swirling tornado of expletives! Haha! And I didn't miss the point, they are all 2 seat, 2 door cars with sporting intentions. I get it. Was just pointing out that comparing the CRX and Del Sol to the S2K would almost be like comparing a Chevy Cobalt SS, to a Corvette SgtSeth
bliglum And yet, one could very well link the Cobalt, Camaro, and a Corvette. They are all cars with sporty handling aimed at different segments of the market. And they could be linked as the original poster did. So, thank you for another great example
I bought a 93 del Sol back in January of this year. The night before I picked the car up, I watched this review over and over.
did the same before I got my aw11
Same. I'm watching it again since I just got mine running and it'll soon be street legal
if Mr.Regular tries working at a car dealer we can all agree that our wallets are in danger
Nah, he wouldn't last a month. He'd talk a customer out of anything they're interested in, by shittin' all over it. How many guys will buy a car from a salesman who calls them pussies, wimps, fags, etc. for wanting an automatic - even in cars that ONLY come that way...
@@SteevK69 someone's certainly salty about not driving manual...
@@estebanlaguna8679 Just saying some guys are overly fixated on stick..er.. manual shifters. Not just that - if you read the rest of my comment - he tends to be very negative about just about every car he reviews, stereotyping their owners. Who'd buy a car from a guy whose sales pitch starts with "You look like a guy who staggers out of a karaoke bar - after thinking it was a strip club on the way in - and puking all over your driver's seat. I think I've got an '81 K-car with vinyl seats so you can just hose it out..."?
@@SteevK69 just dont say the bad stuff..isnt that how all salesmen do it
@@SteevK69 I'd buy a car if he advertised it like that.
I used to be a salesman for honda in '95. These cars sold like hotcakes. I remember selling one to a young girl maybe about 18 at the time. Now in '95 A/C was an added option (1200 bucks) Multi-disc cd changer was an expensive option (about 500 bucks). Floor mats were about 150.00. Out the door this car was almost $17,000.00. Base price was about 14 g's. I wonder if she still has it? lol
drmpilot365 wonder if she still like back then
She just may be. lol
drmpilot365 we are talking about the car right
yes
i wasnt
As I recall, in the US the lineup was:
base: D15 non-vtec
Si: D16Z6 VTEC (single cam)
VTEC: B16A DOHC VTEC
+James Mackintosh That is true from 93-95, but they changed in a little bit in 96-97:
S: D16 Non-VTEC
Si: D16Y8
VTEC: B16A
+James Mackintosh Not all '93 Del Sol Si have D16z6 VTEC, mine doesn't, it's just a D16Z6 Non-VTEC. And before anybody argues that I am wrong, I have the OEM shop manual and have called the stealership for engine related OEM parts through VIN number.
All d16z6 are vtec if you have z6 with a non vtec head it was
1 replaced with a non vtec. Head at some point
2 just has a Honda valve cover
B16 or nothing
If it's a non vtec del sol is a d15b7 just like the dx civics, the si has a d16z6 (vtec) the del sol vtec has a b16a3. I know its an old comment thread, but still useful info for those who would like to know.
Bought one new in 1993 and still drive it every day. Miles: 217,000, new computer, exhaust, converter, ignition system, radiator, front wheel bearings and other routine items.
Love this car!
These early year RCR reviews were my bibles of car appreciation when I got my first automotive job. I knew how cars worked sure, a life of poverty with my family made sure that I knew how they worked. But RCR showed me what it MEANT to finally be able to sit in the driver's seat, turn the key, and take off to wherever I decided to go. That lack of limitation. That freedom. And that appreciation for whatever four wheels and motor was beneath me, carrying me to late night parties, or band meets, or every lost route and direction on my way. ROMAN, MR REGULAR, I salute you sirs for keeping this generational experience alive.
It IS a straight four.
It's just not a longitudinal four, different thing.
Means less fun
he said that in the caption.
I love the Del Sol, i have since i was a little kid. I dont know what it is, something about the styling just appeals to me, especially that electric back window, I just always thought it looked so cool.
Kinda easy to keep a car looking/driving/smelling/FUCKING as good as this.... when its a Florida car.
Try that in Minnesota ... A clean del sol or civic or crx can still easily go for 5 gs or more ... It's as bad as drift tax ...
I'm in the northeast, and my Del Slo does NOT like winter.
"Cars give certainty in a world that is increasingly uncertain." - That has to be my new favourite RCR closing line. Great review! I've always had a soft spot for the Del Sol, and I have no idea why.
love that you can store the roof in the trunk. wish my mx5 could do that
Found one of these at a car show a couple years back. Totally unmodified save for the engine. The OEM plant ate a head gasket, so the owner swapped in a CRX engine and turbo'd it. 152,000 miles, still wearing its original Samba Green Pearl paint.
It is like a unicorn.
But a unicorn that does not gets attention and kinda sucks when compared to other unicorns.
Falbere! woah hey there!
It would sure get a lot of attention but more if it ran over a unicorn
A sucky unicorn is still a unicorn.
wow didn't expect falbere
@@notnolan42splashgod I think the unicorn would run over me
I bought a Del Sol Vtec when I was 18 (5 years ago). I loved that car! It was kinda rare too because it only had 80,000 miles on the clock when I bought it, and the Vtec trim came with a B16 engine!
Had a friend in High School who had one of these, before he got a Porsche 944. A little bit of an upgrade.
I truly found the beauty of stock cars from this channel. Thank You
I love stock cars, I never modify my cars. I'm more into the "factory survivor" crowd.
I really like these. I love the seating position and the feel of the cockpit (I don't even feel silly calling it a cockpit). It's nice with the roof on and with it off and the rear window down you get a lot of versatility. It's from the era where Honda engines were exciting as well as economical, even if it was never that fast. It's not MR but it still drives pretty "Sporty" and flat. Not a sports car, but a genuinely fun car for the common man.
the front looks like a soarer
It kinda does with those two inner lights.
Yeah Thats basically what it is
Squint really hard
It looks like a soarer after two trucks merge together with it in between.
I used to not like the Del sol or the celica that had similar quad lights, but now that it's aged, I think it looks quite nice :)
“Hard and rough like you forgot the safe word” yoooo😭😭
About 3 years after seeing this video, I now own a red 1.6L VTEC Del Sol. I really love it, leaky roof and all!
People do love the DelSol, the ones that say people don't because it isn't a CRX are the ones that blame the Delsol for the hatch back CRX's demise.
The Delsol is a CRX and has been called that in many countries (the world does not revolve around the US and by rights the DelSol did bear the name CRX and CR-X.
Would love to get my hands on one of these. Always loved them when I was younger. Just lived the lines on them. There was a purple one i used to see in my neck of the woods for years until alas one summer it never emerged from its southwestern ontario winter slumber. Made me so sad. Have yet to see another one on the road since.
I discover this video 4 years after the fact and it's as if it came out yesterday, what a beautiful channel
surprisingly this is your most tame episode yet... the content is almost exclusively about the car! Nice way to freshen things Mr. Regular :)
I owned one of these back in the 90's, great car really. Also owned a CRX, preferred the Del Sol for novelty factor
i had my del sol for a year. it was a heap, not the best paint, shittly swapped motor. but I loved the hell out of it...going on a nice cruise on a nice day with the windows down and top off was the best feeling...better than driving my moms audi sline. You felt free driving it, it was a go card...hands down one of the most beautiful cars made by honda..i wish it would come back.
Ahhhhh the metaphors are magnificent with this one. Thumbs up! Great example of this car, thanks for keeping it stock. I like it.
They also had the B16A3 motor factory here in the U.S. which you forgot to mention.
+Javier Molina No, he said you could also get the S and SI trim levels which had the B16A2 or A3 depending on year.
+SydneyCBR6 but he said they came with the d16 vtec usdm spec
SydneyCBR6 B16A2 only came in the 1999-2000 Honda Civic Si, the B16A3 came in the Del Sol V-TEC he mentioned nothing about the B16A3.
+Puffalupagus360 yep, they did have the b16 version as well. My friend had one and that thing ripped!!! The b16 version had stiffer springs and shocks than the other versions..
i just knew because i have serviced a fuck ton of cars in my life so far and i knew it was in the si's from seeing it and the emissions placard
it's not a crx? it was sold as crx del sol in germany...
+Matthias Schmitt ...and it had that wicked electric system for the T-top...why this one doesn't have it?
+Matthias Schmitt And the UK, see 3:40 though
+Gundun de Zena That wasn't available in the US.
+Matthias Schmitt Originally sold as a Civic Del Sol in the US, Civic was dropped by 1995 and it was just a Del Sol. IIRC The CRX was actually a Civic CRX as well.
in the uk they are civic CRX
People can go on ahead and take their CR-Xs. I'll have my Del Sol for six grand.
(sold mine for $3000)
Bout mine at a junkyard for 700. Still runs
Got mine for 500
six grand? you way over paid, bro.
potatochobit if it’s a clean VTEC trim with the b16, it’s worth every penny of that
When I lived in the US I owed a del Sol and it was awesome. I loved it so much and we did many road trips in it. My roof was also not leaky except in the Carwash. Back in Germany it needed an Elise to fill the hole it left in my heart. It really is like the summer love you think back to from time to time.
no Monday is complete without watching new +RegularCars review !!!!!!
You forgot the fact that it also came with a b16a2 for 96 97 and a b16a3 for obd1 94-96. Wasn't offered in all years, but makes a heck of a difference. I am 17 and have had 2. One with the d16z6 and currently one with a b16a3. The thing redlines just below 8k with the dohc and is a beast for this car stock. Nice video though. All points true haha
I have a 92 Prelude Si if you ever find yourself in Georgia!
Stephen Scott yessssss he needs to do it
I miss my prelude.
I used to jave The prelude in dark Green metallic. I loved it so much!
Fellow georgian here! It'd be cool if my parents let him review my trailblazer lol
Dude u are awesome I wish other reviewers put in as much as u do ...
I'm so in love with this car. Good review!
I always hated the Del Sol, but now it's grown on me
Initial D license plate on CRX
Omg XD I just discovered this channel 2 days ago! I love the Humor. It's like watching Honest Trailers for Cars!
The Del Sol was one of the first models I saw on the road as a kid that gave me an interest in cars. A shiny green dream.
This appeals to the 17 year old Mexican kid in me. Not really, but you get what I mean. Now to just put on some rattle-can teal Walmart wheel covers and hang out at VatoZone all day.
I work at VatoZone! Come join me my friend! Lol
Lololol vatozone, im Mexican and didn't know people call it that
artur guevara same lol
I'm Hispanic, the first person I heard call the place Vatozone was white lol. But I prefer the luck o' the Irish and go to O'Reilly.
This is the most accurate shit I’ve ever read
bb4 prelude? You should review that one. No one has anything good to say about it.
So what's the "aux lt" button next to the cruise for? Is it for the lights between the headlights? Like fog lights but not? Or like that Saab "-" lighting button that was never activated (legally) in the U.S.?
New at your channel! I am not really into cars but i love your reviews man!
I miss my del sol, and Targa didn't leak.
Liar
+Billy Benedict I am telling you, I live in south louisiana. it rains all the time here never got wet in it and never found it even damp inside after a hard rain.
You don't need to lie, it's okay.
+BikerTrashWolf don't worry, we're all friends here. we won't judge you for your leaky Honda.
+BikerTrashWolf My ex had one and the targa didn't leak on that one either. It was a nice little car, only problem with it is it's invisible, low and small.
um excuse me, but ive owned two Honda Civic Del Sols and they never had leaking targa tops at all. my first del sol was a 1993 S model and unfortunately it got into a bad accident, but i had it for 5 years. no leaking at all and the rubber was very worn. my current del sol is a 1995 SI, yet again no leaks. I do admit that my S model did have the SRS failure and even though the targa top never leaked, the trunk did..but im happy to say so far my 95 Si is staying strong and i am slowly but surely going to restore it back to its pristine condition. in the end your video was interesting and funny though.
I know this comment is 3 years old and you Kay not be on here anymore but if.yiu are can you elaborate in what the "SRS failure" is? Is it a common issue? My 95 S has an SRS light but I've just ignored it because it's not a huge deal to me and the car is great otherwise.
I bought mine five day’s ago and although it isn’t a race car but maaaaan in handles well!
I’ve searched for a 90s Japanese car, lightweight and automatic (because reasons) to build and drive it…. And I’ve fallen in love with this tiny box although I literally have to amputate my (prosthetic) leg every time I climb in but after the ride I really don’t want to get out anymore.
Had mine week before this video. Helped me get mine i had since.
Review the paseo maybe?
yes yes yes my first car when I was 17. fucking amazing car. manual ofcourse
Or a Tercel?
But it would probably be too boring
***** hw abt starlet ?
No Starlets in the U.S.
Starlets were awesome. Especially those 4efte turbo ones.
Have a 96 DEl sol SI with 214 k miles on it. Wife's forever car. Will still get 0-60 in well under 7 seconds. Offered wife a new sporty car of her choice. Daggers flew "not getting rid of my baby." OK new paint job seats and carpeting looks like new . Yep 20 years old will still bring a smile to you face on a back hill country Texas road. Give you 30 Mpg uses no oil and sounds great revving to 8K before shifting. Oh it doesn't have all the newfangled gadgets but who gives a damn with top down and listening to it sing as you slam it into a turn at insane speeds to have it dig in and pull at 6-7 k rpm. snap shift and right back inthe sweet spot at 5k. YEP SOME NEW ONES ARE FASTER' have bunches more tech toys Ok will give you that. But I don't think many would be that much more fun.
The rewatch-ability of RCR is unreal. Thanks, guys.
God I love your reviews, they are awesome
the Honda Del Sol VTi tops out at 8,200rpm in the uk. 160bhp.
JDM honda Del sol SiR has 170bhp... tops out high too with 130mph.
my roof never leaks.. but the transtop does not work
If you're ever in Tennessee, come review my 93 Prelude Si! I know you've been wanting to do one... ;)
ephesix waiting for a 4th gen i bet he loves the dash and if it has aws!
I've been waiting for this review for a while as ive been looking at getting a del sol but what are they like to own and drive?
Keep up the reviews Mr Regular.
my del sol has 230k on it and it's still great. except the airbag computer which also died....
firydeth2 rip
I'm sure airbags won't do much to save you in such a tiny tin can anyway
So your saying my SRS light shouldn't be on?
Honda del Sol is one of my first favorite cars I put an H22 blue top engine in it
I'm so glad new vids come out on Mondays... I always need the pick me up.
Lol the song at the end hits home. Haven't driven mine in 7 or 8 years. Everyone's always asking to buy it because it sits at the bottom of my driveway. It's ruff. Revive coming one day
How do you decide which car to review? What do you think before approaching one for reviewing?
Somebody messages him on skype, goes "I have a 1988 Dodge Omni GLH. Wanna come review it?" If he says okay, they meet at a certain date at a certain place, and recording footage ensues.
+Marcello Penk-Masucci The Dodge Omni, We're totally not copying the VW Golf, Dodge.
+Marcello Penk-Masucci Yeah but he has to reject a lot of offers. Even though he did review a Saturn, and not even the kind with the cool third door all 4 seat coupes should have as a option.
+dragkid185 The GLH was an epic sleeper, would spank any stock GTI back in 1988, kind of like the SRT-4 vs GTI of it's time, but still I'd rather own the GTI long term.
olskoolnewpaint Yeah they are cool cars I just don't like how unoriginal they were with the design.
I really hope there's an NB Miata in the works.
Ah, the memories. I babysat my brother's Del Sol Si for like a year back in the 90s. Car was really a hoot to drive. Not fast. Not the best handling. Just really, really fun for some reason that's tough to explain. Maybe it was the quick revving engine and the shifter that helped. And yeah, it really felt like a convertible from the driver's seat. Loved the auto rear window. Good times.
Early 90's Hondas are such fantastic cars. Every model was great.
I'm about to get a del sol for my first car looks great
+Jeffrey tinsley Is it good? Im thinking about getting one for my first as well
+Rocco Rozzi Really good second car. Get a Civic/Accord instead. Buy as close to stock as possible. Air filters and mufflers are whatever, but don't buy someone else's failed project for $1,500 that has $5,000 of mismatched engine componets.
+Stephen Bianchi Alright yeah thanks that's smart
i have mine since i was 17.i'm almost 24 now
Jeffrey Tinsley was my first car as well perfect starter car !
Can you please review a 350z??????
Love this video.
Have a red 1993 si manual with spoiler unmodified with 85k miles.
Last summer put in car show and 1 comment was couldn’t believe it had 85k and looked like it came off the show room.
I get all the unfavorable comments especially roof leaks.
But on a sunny day and I take it for a ride on a country road, the smile on my face is priceless.
To all, Live life well.
I've seen the review on the FD rx7. but I would like to know what you guys think if the fc 2nd gen rx7
My mom has a bone stock base model 1995 del sol and the top doesn't leak, the seals are all almost perfect.
Liar they all leak

I saw a stock del Soul like this on the road a few days ago and I just said "Rare" in my best Mr. Regular impression
I saw a CRX convertible tonight on my way home. It was like a del sol with an older body style. But now I really really want a del sol. But, since Mr. Regular mentioned the different engines, which one was in this one? I love the sound it made. What I'm asking is: which del sol is best del sol?
1:53 - After Mr. Regular finishes missionary with his protestant wife.
It's interesting to me how rare these are in the states, in stock form. Here in NZ, where grey market imports are abound, we have the JDM versions all over the place. Usually not modded, because they're not popular with car people as far as I can tell. I remember thinking these were the coolest looking car when I was a little kid, we had a neighbour who drove one, in white, looked a great deal like this, but it was the b16a vtec version.
I'd like to own one as a cheap, fun runabout, but there's so many other cars that fit the same bill, only do it better over all. being a two seater is cool though. Having only one spare seat is great for if you don't like having to give friends lifts very often :P
I've never sat in one, but at 6'2" I don't think I'd fit in it very well to be completely honest. Its a pity, because they're a cool little car for sure.
Great review by the way man!
+Chris Tate If you live near Christchurch I could give you a ride in mine.
Believe it or not somebody pushing 7ft could ride comfortable in one of these seats go waaaay the fuck back
Why I watch Regular Car Reviews...
The beautiful similes and metaphors.
Holy hell! I made a comment like 4 days ago about doing a review on a Del Sol, and this this is posted!
I currently have a '95 Del Sol that I bought from a friend as a project car. All of the plastic and vinyl has been torn out, cleaned and painted with SEM plastic paint/dye. New carpet and seats are waiting to be put in.
No b16a?
My top doesn't leak god dammit
Liar
Your lying through your dirt mauled dentures
I bet mine leaks more than all y'all's
It’s okay I have that problem too
I drove one back in 2012 , it was my friend's car green manualtransmition & and i loved it !
on my old pathfinder the cruise control is a little switch over to the left of the steering wheel, but the functions are on the wheel itself why? I dunno
Back in 2004 or 2005 when I was in high school I met my "car guy" friends. They used to make fun of another kid who drove one of these. They called it a "Del Slow"
Flowmoshun just jealous
We call it the Dale swole
It certainly isn't a race car, but I'll take slower performance with the awesome removable top over a fast, standard car any day. I love driving around topless. I don't even care when it's like 35 degrees F out, I still take the top off lol
Needs a B16a. "This is not the Del Sol you are looking for"
i love my 97 del sol with the b16a2 303k miles and runs like a clock
You need to see the power tops on these.
Literally the craziest mechanism I have ever seen
I came back here for the intro Drake won a Grammy since this dropped!!!
This has been living rent free in my head since 2019
hey if your still in florida come down to orlando and drive my 2000 impreza !
My targa top on my del sol doesnt leak at all haha stock seals too
ImportLamby liar 😂
I had one until fast and the furious movie came out, so I sold it and got a 96 eclipse gs-t. What year were the ones without the center lights? I thought those were the 95s
How do you check engine light of this 1995 del sol ? Does it has an OBD 2 port ? I’m looking forward to buy one, but not sure if I can’t read the damm code. Any help ? Thank
No car to my knowledge before 96 has an obd2
