I drove my 2005 Prius over 260,000 miles before retiring it last year, I sold it and it's still on the road. I understand why they're hated but at the same time they're good comfortable and reliable cars that get you where you need to go.
+Clint Bainter dammit! I should had bought the prius then instead of a corolla...I was worried about paying 2 or 3 grand for a new battery so I went with a naturally aspirated gas saver.. oh well, im already 6 months into the payments.
@@seisont My 2004 Prius currently has 375k miles. No major issues, and many parts lasted well past when they were predicted to last. Some minor issues have been popping up in the past year, but honestly that's to be expected for a car that has been averaging 25k miles a year for 15 years.
If you want a new Prius joke, the one you can use in Japan is the “Prius Missile”, where when you see a Prius, you can joke about it crashing into a nearby convenience store. This is because a lot of Prius drivers in Japan are really old (pretty understandable, since about 25% of the Japanese population is over 65), and they usually crash into a building because they confused the pedals.
"Nice Prius" ~ Said No One In my years driving the hellscape of California's highway system, I've yet to see Priuses pulled over by cops, broken down on the side of the road, involved in car accidents, perform dangerous speeding or lane weaving, or even so much as participate in road rage horn honking. I think the drive-like-an-old-bitch, lameness aura of Priuses actually promotes road safety.
You're right, the Prius does play the villain. When the light turns green, everyone runs from it like it were a villain in a horror movie. Then at the next light, it slowly, methodically catches up with them like they were the teenagers that ran past the Mini convertible running with the top down to hide in the shed full of chainsaws. You can never drive fast enough in a Prius, which I found out by having people who were passing me on the shoulder of I-35 on a vacation trip while I was in the slow lane. I was doing about 90.
Recently got my first car. Previous owner was a hoarder. Spent 2 days restoring the interior to near factory fresh with whatever materials I had, aside from scuffs and minor damage to the interior plastics and the crushed seat bolster that tells of a driver who sat on it and slid into the seat regularly.
Hell, a turbodiesel with a chip tune and increased boost can get 4-3.5L/100km, and be a load of fun to drive as well. My friend got an extra 30hp and halved his fuel consumption with a tune.
Well, yeah I don't understand why you EU-sorts let your gov't emasculate you like that...not that it's any of my business. Just keep that nonsense on your side of the Atlantic, TYVM...

We leased a 2010 Prius and thought it was the worst decision my parents could have made, but when we were putting it up against the Camry we liked the Prius a whole lot more. And after awhile I learned to really like the car, especially when commuting to school 45 minutes away in mixed driving and still getting away with filling it up about once a month. The stereo system was also really nice with the JBL speakers. Even now I am considering a Prius for my next car.
cloridan Beauchamps no she is not vegan or vegetarian at all in her or my opinion. These words are used to describe how she eats in a faster/simpler fashion. She eats everything except for animals, with the exclusion of fish. In the fish world she limits cephalopod consumption as much as possible. She won't eat eggs u less that are not mixed with anything and fully cooked. She doesn't drink milk or milk products. But she will taste a little cheese, really little, if it's a really nice one. She doesn't have intolerance to anything really nor is she a vegetarian or vegan. But this diet modified over years has helped her Chron's disease. Also, as I am a big into the veggie lifestyle for animal rights, my wife limits the cephalopods more than she would for her health diet. So, I say vegan plus fish and occasional egg.
Appletank8 at least it's built for the job and it's not constantly used How many starters have you had go? I no one I know has had one Prius electric motors Tons
FYI, there are a lot of new cars coming out that auto-stop the engine when the car is stopped. Aka the Starter motor is run multiple times in a single car trip. If those don't have issue, then the problem becomes a case of poor engineering. I could build a starter motor. It would probably be complete shit and barely work 90% of the time because this is the first time I've ever tried doing so. Starter motors have been around for nearly a century. Prius motors barely have a decade. Some kinks are to be expected before they are worked out. Obviously, if complaints about the electric motor keep coming in, while AFAIK, Tesla's motors are doing fairly okay, then Toyota is being a lazy ass. At least you don't break your arm off when the engine start goes wrong, like it could happen if you forgot the correct procedure in those Model Ts.
Snoopy Schulz Diesels are good on fuel but they take soooo much to fill up. My gas Silverado takes way less to fill up and doesnt waste as much fuel either
The starter IS cheaper and easier to replace, however... Not hating on the prius, but it should definitely have a way to start the engine in case of emergency. Maybe an inertia starter or something.
Yeah and why not put in an emergency second engine in case the first one fails. You only have to make the one good, no need for backup if it doesn't break.
That electric engine will last WAY LONGER than a "mechanical starter". Now DUMBASS what do you think a starter motor on the average car ACTUALLY IS??? a frigging hand crank??? Do you realize it's ALSO AN ELECTRIC MOTOR??? And HOW MANY starter motors have you deal with??? Do you know they last 20 years often enough??? Meanwhile the first generation prius had a HUGE AMOUNT have their battery life drop to 15% at 6 MONTHS FROM NEW....
I never understood why you Americans hate this car so much. I live in Germany and absolutely nobody ever said anything negative about it. Maybe it has something to do with the image it has in your country but, in mine it just stands for reliability and saving money from gas prices.
The Prius is a perfectly fine car. It gets great fuel economy, it’s practical, it’s reliable, and it’s fairly comfortable. What is it doing to hurt you? Nothing. The only thing that puts it down is the occasional snobby owner.
It's so smiley and happy. The grill and the headlights are just so upbeat looking. That's the one positive that I can say about it. And I guess it's reliable
When this review came out, I found it to be pretty much true to my experience, however, I don't think it's aged well. There is a beauty in it's practically, and utility, especially now.
Politics set aside, Prius is an engineering marble on its own right. Toyota set a goal (of building a car that can achieve highest MPG in EPA testing AND in the hand of customers), and they NAILED that target SPOT ON. Yes this is one of those car. Its like the Dodge HellCat series. Dodge set out a target (of building a blue-collar 4 door SuperCar)... and they nailed it. We dont like mediocre cars - something that tries to be everything but achieves nothing. WE have plenty of those around... like ACCORD, CAMRY, GALANT, ALTIMA, SONATA, PASSAT, MALIBU blah blah. Fast forward to 2099, I guarantee you that the name PRIUS will be in the list of the most significant vehicle of the century. You won't find S2000 or Supra or HellCat there.
Jason Wou Exactly, Personally I think you can't claim to have any real passion for cars unless you have at least respect for the Prius on a tech or engineering level. It seems as though it's seen more as a political football or a threat to the V8 or some such nonsense however the Prius and it's hybrid engine will probably save the Naturally aspirated engine in the long run because the only alternative is turbo charging.
Yeah, that's why I liked driving a Fusion hybrid: all the same technology, nearly the same MPG, but it wasn't a "rolling statement" like the Prius was, mainly because it was (essentially) just a trim level on an already-extant car.
I just don't understand why they have to make the car itself look like such a pussy whipped rounded bloated piece of junk. Why not have a nice low slung sports car with electric motor that gets good mpg?
@@xq39 You mean a Fisker Karma, sorry, Karma Revero? Low slung sports cars don't sell like tall hatchbacks and sub-SUVs. Putting a kid into a child seat in the back of a low car is harder than if the seat were at belt-height. Getting into a low car is hard if you're unfit or injured. Visibility at junctions is harder in a low car. Driving on multi-lane roads is more stressful in a low car because it's harder to see past the car in front to anticipate the concertina. Nervous drivers don't like low cars when other cars aren't low because nobody wants to see a bowtie or ram emblem approaching at face height. Sure the handling sucks and they weigh more and the aero sucks, but tall sells.
@@EmyrDerfel I grew up riding in a integra backseat and I really enjoyed it, that car is very low by todays standards. I drive it now and its not scary, I actually like the vigilance and visibility. As for cars riding your ass not a big deal unless its at night and someone has xenon x rays. Look both ways at intersections drive slowly and theres no danger.
I would happily own a prius and some classic american muscle side by side. The damage these do to the environment is negligible since lithium Ion batteries are recyclable. The Prius saves on gas and if I'm taking a long trip I'd happily take this car. I'm not super politically correct, I just like having a little extra money i'm not spending on gas. Then there's the muscle car...,that one's for fun.
Prius doesn't use lithium-ion for its hybrid battery. It uses nickel-metal hydride. Though the 2018 Camry Hybrid has a lithium-ion option in its LE trim.
SuperWesty177 he'd say something to the effect of, and in a deep masculine voice: "when I punch the throttle my sphincter beats faster than a snare drum"
My wife has a gen 2 prius. When she got it, I had my reservations about it, but its not terrible to drive. I got 46 mpg on a road trip, mainly highway. I get about 42 avg. I like taking it on long road trips. You can pull over at a rest stop and leave the climate on auto all night while using very little fuel.
My dad has an '07 Prius, the only 2 things I don't like about the Prius is: 1- its too cramped inside for someone who is 6'3" tall. 2- it has no acceleration. Which is a problem since getting onto the highway in MA, a few areas you need to accelerate HARD in order to merge safely. I almost got rear ended because of the lack of acceleration. Past that, I don't have anything against the Prius, it does it's job and it does it very well. My dad often gets 40+mpg and only thing I've replaced is the headlights. Past that, everything on it is original and has survived since '07.
Best description of a Prius ever! You talked about the car without forgetting the social statement. You talked about the social statement, but didn’t get hung up on it! Very good!
What would you do with a Prius? 1. Drive it 2. Rice it 3. Tune it 4. Use it to race Edit: took me 2 years to realize the only reason Priuses are hated on are because they're considered "boring" by 12 year olds. This comment makes me want to die now
The car as stock is 1290kg, long wheel base and quick steering makes, it for a good car that likes to rotate and keep momentum. Just needs some serious upgrading for the antiroll bars, chassis stiffness and tyres.
I don't think the battery mining really would be worse than the oil collection (Fracking and/or drilling) plus risk of spills and transportation etc. think about it, with a gas or diesel vehicle, your consuming that stuff for many years, plus many years of oil changes, where the battery is basically a one time purchase for every what, 5-10 years?
And hopefully in the future (or even currently) they're producing longer lasting, better batteries with less environmental impact (very likely due to Tesla's influence on the industry!).
+Wim Borgers Lolno. Prius batteries are only 3% LiCO3(those that are Li-ion anyway). It is way cheaper to mine fresh lithium and carbonate ores and chemically react them into lithium carbonate than it is to recycle the pitiful amount of the stuff in a spent battery. Also that article of yours barely makes the distinction between earlier Priuses' nickel metal-hydride batteries and the newer Li-ion batteries. Smelting and/or recycling nickel releases a lot of toxic shit too. Just ask the people of Norilsk in Russia, where 20%+ of the world's nickel is smelted, and heavy metal poisoning is considerably higher there than other industrial towns.
Had a 2016 Prius, bought brand new. Repossessed while away for the Marine Corps with 80,000 miles only changed oil and filled the gas. 2020, looking at a 2009 Prius 180,000 miles all original never broke down. Have a coworker with over 300,000 miles all original. Most reliable car I know of.
Actually, I purchased my prius brand new in 2010; initially I hated it, in the end 9yrs later it was my best car ever. The car would jump up to speed (65-70mph) in a flash, the electric engines would assist in the launch so the gas engine wouldn't have to work as hard. I averaged 42-45mpg with a lead foot. I loved how the car was so light and fast, I once placed 1,000 lbs of tile in the back and the car took it like a champ, it was so reliable. Alas, it died recently due to a car accident, so I bought a new one (with all the bells and whistles) this new prius is so heavy it doesn't launch or do anything quickly. Moral of the story: buy a stripped down base model, change the spark plugs to the "ngk laser iridium" and enjoy driving the car like a really fast go-kart, don't worry about dings, coz it's an old prius, it just works!
Would have been great if you had done a little more research on the car (aside from maybe cleaning it up a little bit for the review). Like the fact that it has an eCVT that has no friction parts that can wear out (it also has two - not one - electric motors and some planetary gears and no cvt belt; it also has no timing belt or other belts on the engine that would need service). Or that if you use 'power mode' it'll actually go quite quickly if needed. I got the same one and pull a 2000lbs trailer coast to coast. It's fast and reliable (the transmission can't wear out) and not even a rocky mountain snow storm could stop it. Ignore the BS about the shifter and the 'it being different' part and you have yourself one of the most reliable and economical cars out there that'll go for hundreds of thousands of miles. No wonder they're used for Uber, Lyft, and Taxi service all over the place. And the fact that it doesn't run its engine all the time when idling is actually pretty nice. Particularly on long road trips you can sleep in the car with the AC/heat running and the engine will only turn on every now and then to recharge the battery. Bam - camper mode. I love that car!
You should review some older cars like the Nissan S30 (Datsun 240Z). I want to buy one but after watching so many of your videos I feel like i need a green light from you before I buy any car.
Pawan Chandra He's based in the northeast, we don't have 240z's we don't have anything made before 1995 - salt kills He should spend some time in cali though, you guys have interesting cars
maxima nig Miata is worse than a 240Z in almost every measurable way. Its less powerful, less torque, not any lighter, worse looking, uglier interior, less practical, not any better handling... I guess it gets better fuel economy.. but who cares? Pawan Chandra Just buy one. Find a solid one and you won't regret it.
-top gear also said that if you drive a diesel, you care about the environment so much that your want to leave a sooty film over it -I found a Prius with 400,000 miles on Craigslist for like $2500. -the only major maintenance you need to do on them is replace the hybrid battery after 100-150k or so. They will still work with hybrid batteries that don’t hold a charge very well but they’re much better in stop and go traffic if they have batteries with decent life in them. -if you’re going to get one, get a 2005-2009 model. They have much more legroom, but make sure it has keyless go and a backup camera. I made that mistake when I bought mine. -there are people that make them into campers. I’m not kidding. To be fair, you can fold the rear seats down and there’s LOADS of space. I can stretch out in the back and I’m 6 feet tall.
rockinchimp I'm sad to say my mother bought one of these when the new generation came out in 2005. It wasn't bad, and I was young so cars didn't matter as much. One thing though: we were in an accident once, and the entire passenger side crumpled like an aluminum can, and the curtain airbags didn't deploy. This car sucks, no matter what safety rating they gave it.
masturcheefMGS Are you blind? 2015 Prius safety stats according the the IIHS: "Good" (the highest possible score) in all categories but Small Front Overlap where it received "acceptable" (second highest score). It is a Top Pick by the IIHS
Say what you will about Prius owners (and I know ya will), but at least they enjoy their car, they are enthusiastic about a car. Just like Miata owners, or classic car owners, or tuners. Which is more than you can say about 99.9999% of crossover owners. Crossover owners don’t give a shit about what they drive, its just an appliance, like a $5 toaster.
Currently Toyota recycles 91% of the batteries and it's getting more and therefore the dirty mining is reduce. Now you should look at how aluminium is produced. It's not a very clean process either but noone cares because it's not used on a Japanes eco car. As you said: everyone needs something to hate on yet people chose the Prius for no reason and make wrong arguments about it. Also if in a normal petrol car the engine or even the starter motor breaks you're equally fucked as when the E-motor in the Prius goes fucked so what's your point?
Yeah but if your IC engine breaks down for what ever reason your car is in the shop for just as long and in fact the electric engine in the Prius will last longer without a minor issue than any VW.
elwulfo666 The point is that a starter motor is a lot cheaper than an E-motor... Obviously the "if the engine breaks" argument is a moot point, because the petrol engine in a Prius can break just as well. Petrol cars and a Prius just have that in common.
***** You remind me of the video Scotty Kilmer put out about why not to buy a used, older hybrid; his example was a first generation Prius. He mentioned that the generator cost roughly $3500 by itself and takes 10 hours to do the job. His vids are very informative.
Turning bauxite into Aluminum uses a lot more electricity. However the process hasn't changed much in over 100 years. Aluminum prices can be lowered if more recycled it.
You mean because the engine blew up because the idiot driver ignored the service light and ran it until it there was no oil. my brother has A Prius and he ignored the service light and ran it until there was no oil. thankfully we caught it early and change the oil and everything was fine
Say what you will. I love my prius. 180k miles, and all I've ever done is swap the 12v battery and oil changes. Still getting around 38mpg at highway speed on my commute. Traction control genuinely works in the snow, but the car could definitely use one more inch of ground clearance when it's heavy. It's my second favorite car I've ever owned, after the 1998 Honda Accord, which I still think is the best car ever built.
Jeremy Clarkson in 1999 interviewing Guillermo Fesser on his show "Clarkson" >Jeremy: "So tell me something, are we [British] the worst Tourists in the world?" >Guillermo: "No....no - (inhales) I'd have to say the Romans...were the worst [Tourists]"
Fuck the environment, I just want the 50mpg. Edit: Shortly after writing this comment (in 2021ish) I purchased a 2005 Prius from a sketchy dude with poor English off FBMarketplace in Vegas For the last 3 years she was top 2 most reliable car I ever owned, hell I made a sleeping platform in the back and lived out of it for almost a full year just driving across America Couple weeks ago some goobus slammed on his brakes on a roundabout for no damn reason, and tl;dr I need a new car now I'll definitely be buying a Prius again. My 05 got 38-45 mpg depending on how and where I drove, the Gen 3s report 40 minimum God Bless the Toyota Prius
@RegularCars I know I live in Australia, so you obviously aren't able to review MY actual car, but keep a look out for a mk3 or "4" Volkswagen Golf Cabrio / Convertible. Mine is a 1998 i-4 2.0L, it is truly an odd car, as when people think "VW Golf", they think Hatchback, Grandmas and 30 year old car enthusiasts. For a Golf, it has a lot of style, and since it lacks a metal roof, 2 rear doors and hatchback, it's center of gravity is substantially low and seemingly zippier than a standard 2.0 hatchback. When I got my car (it's my first) I fell in love with it, the look, the feel, the SMELL. Love your work Mr. Regular, you got me into cars!
I've put three hundred thousand miles on Prius taxicabs, and I love them. Once I understood how to drive the CVT, I fell in love with it; I don't ever want to drive a car with gears again. The CVT lets an ICE be an ICE and rev in a very narrow band, the one that's most efficient, or most powerful, depending on what the circumstances call for. (I should qualify that by saying I've driven other cars with CVTs, like the '06 Civic, and they sucked.) I love that it uses its huge traction motor as an engine starter; this means instead of sounding like a dying animal when its cranking like every other car engine, it's just on; it's so powerful, it starts the engine so quickly, you don't even notice it happening. I like that the computer manages all the power decisions: it's better at it. I love that all the accessories are electric: a/c compressor, brake vacuum pump, power steering, engine water pump; and I love that I can leave the car with the air on in Florida summers and the engine will only come on when it needs to charge the battery, using a tiny fraction of the fuel other cars would with the air on. It's a great car.
I bought a prius to save money. Drove it for a few years. Loved it. Wife totaled it. I bought another one. Cant beat 50 mpg. Plus its comfortable and reliable. I don't think ill ever be without one in the fleet
+PewDiePiesucks b20b integra. and I drive the speed limit. those idiot prius drivers are usually wearing suits so im guessing they always running late to their jobs
I don't really get to be the Prius villain out in the Pacific Northwest like I was in the Midwest. When people find out what car I have I reflexively flinch back a bit expecting a snide remark but no one ever says anything out here. I guess I should be happy but not getting to piss people off with my automotive choices is a little less exciting. P.S. That "hybrid production ruins the environment" thing was debunked!
Reading your statement makes me think that you do NOT live in California because if you did -and you pondered life everytime you saw a Prius, you'd have no time to eat, sleep, fuck, work, shower, etc,,,,
"It doesn't have a starter motor, so if that electric engine goes kaput, you're screwed." - And how exactly is that any different than a starter motor going bad in a conventional vehicle?
Probably because the starter motor in a 98 Ford Taurus is not 80HP thus, not designed to be driven on. So a $58.96 dollar part turns into a $679.38 part.
Donald Trumpet That only matters if the likelihood of braking doesn't make up for it. Is a $500 starter that goes bad after 80k mi better than a $1200 electric motor that averages 250k mi before going bad? In reality, I can't find any info on the lifespan on the Prius electric motors. They seem to be reliable enough that nobody on the internet is complaining about them. They are apparently not a realistic concern. Neither are the batteries, which have an incredible low rate of failure and incredibly long warranty period, just like the electric motors. Taxi companies are regularly putting over 300k mi in Priuses without having to replace any hybrid system components.
I love these videos, and I am binge watching now. I am a serious motor head and had the typical prejudices against these, until I drove one. Then I gained some respect for it. I still wouldn't own one unless it was a gift, but these things aren't as bad as the stories make them out to be.
What I have always said is "why have they not put a diesel in a prius yet?" you can put a smaller engine in to charge the batteries & it would improve further the MPG.
Serious note. You are correct about people organizing and comparing things, we do it by nature. We use our senses to weigh everything we come across. This is why people aren't technically colorblind when it comes to race. We see skin color and our little human brains associate what we know about that color, everything we have learned about from things like personal interaction and what we see in TV and movies. I think once all humans realize we do this subconsciously we can start to choose to ignore our biology and start to be decent people. Remember, each person is an individual. Clumping them all together in some sort of group is your little teeny tiny human brain trying to make sense of something that it doesn't need to.
Funny thing about taking a dig at the Fit's resale value is that they hang on to value like crazy. Wife's '08 got crushed last year and insurance gave north of $9k for totalling it. Picked up a manual '08 mid mileage for just less than that. I mean the car retailed for like $16.5...that's holding competitive value to what the Prius is quoted 8 years in. Side note: love the videos!
Fortunately those electric engines last 15+ years. My neighbor and a co-worker have used 2000 & 2001 Priuses respectively with all original parts. The readout screen make you think of late 90s laptop screens but they both still get about 40 mpg.
Mining doesn't cause more damage to the environment than the huge amounts of carbon emissions everyone produces. A poisoned lake somewhere is less damaging to the world than it getting 4 degrees hotter (resulting to rising sea levels, weather disturbances like droughts, the melting of glaciers etc.), whether you like it or not. Also, mining doesn't have to be damaging to the environment if it's done properly.
This is why I drive a Camry Hybrid. It's basically a Camry-shaped Prius - has all the Prius insides, upsized to 196hp & 356 ft-lb torque engine + 1.6 kwh batt, and actually has a trunk. It does 0-60 in 6 seconds, at 40 mpg.
+Car Lover Same here - the drivetrain is great for a commuter/city car and it works really well as a minicab - as the passenger at least. But where it really falls down is when you drive one - it feels like an unresponsive barge. I've driven much larger cars that feel much smaller when you go over 10mph. I guess we're lucky here in the UK and Europe as Toyota put hybrid drivetrains into a few 'normal' cars. So I get to drive a Yaris with the same engine as a Prius C/Aqua without feeling that I'm driving an apology. For one, the suspension makes it feel like an acceptable supermini. It also has a factory bodykit with blacked out wheels and A-pillar - I love the absurd contradiction.
+Car Lover I traded in my Lancer and ended up with a car note that was, when taken into account with my gas savings, less money than I previously paid in gas with my Lancer. I am a traffic attorney and drive around 30k miles per year. Mine was a Prius C three but all things considered, I got a lot of car for very little money. Came with satelitte radio, navigation, and other bells and whistles all with 50mpg combined.
I'm not going to lie guys... when you actually own one... your lifestyle changes. It's weird! I used to drive BMWs, Benz, Honda Accord V6s, Toyota Tundras, etc. Anything FAST. I blew a LOT of money, because my mentality was "Eh, I spent $26 on a couple gallons of gas. What's another $50 on food and drinks at a bar?" Now... I'm like "$6.50 for a BOBA SMOOTHIE?! Is it made of GOLD?! For $6.50 I can get 241 MILES in my prius prime. The fuck I wanna spend $6.50 on a god damn BOBA DRINK?"

This is because a lot of Prius drivers in Japan are really old (pretty understandable, since about 25% of the Japanese population is over 65), and they usually crash into a building because they confused the pedals.
"Nice Prius" ~ Said No One
In my years driving the hellscape of California's highway system, I've yet to see Priuses pulled over by cops, broken down on the side of the road, involved in car accidents, perform dangerous speeding or lane weaving, or even so much as participate in road rage horn honking. I think the drive-like-an-old-bitch, lameness aura of Priuses actually promotes road safety.
I did recently see a prius towing a rather precariously-loaded trailer... But that's about it.
@TacticalMoonstone The Prius c had 99hp compared to the 130ish regular Prius and I think 80hp in Japan
Same story in london. Granted the traffic is so bad your never going above 10mph
The taxi drivers here in sweden used to drive a lot of priuses and we all know taxi drivers drive like maniacs
Lol my mom totaled a prius with her car
You're right, the Prius does play the villain. When the light turns green, everyone runs from it like it were a villain in a horror movie. Then at the next light, it slowly, methodically catches up with them like they were the teenagers that ran past the Mini convertible running with the top down to hide in the shed full of chainsaws.
You can never drive fast enough in a Prius, which I found out by having people who were passing me on the shoulder of I-35 on a vacation trip while I was in the slow lane. I was doing about 90.

Spent 2 days restoring the interior to near factory fresh with whatever materials I had, aside from scuffs and minor damage to the interior plastics and the crushed seat bolster that tells of a driver who sat on it and slid into the seat regularly.

What I read about the starter thing its a smarter way of having a start-stop system without causing unnecessary wear to the starter
To be fair, if your starter motor goes caput, you are equally screwed.
Appletank8 at least it's built for the job and it's not constantly used
How many starters have you had go?
I no one I know has had one
Prius electric motors
Tons

Starter motor becomes Tupac? That would be frightening indeed.

Yeah and why not put in an emergency second engine in case the first one fails.
You only have to make the one good, no need for backup if it doesn't break.

Prius is an engineering marble on its own right.
This car is disgusting holy shit. Not the Prius, this fucking car. God it's so dirty.
Galf506 are you ok? Is the car still filthy???
My dad has an '07 Prius, the only 2 things I don't like about the Prius is:
1- its too cramped inside for someone who is 6'3" tall.

And hopefully in the future (or even currently) they're producing longer lasting, better batteries with less environmental impact (very likely due to Tesla's influence on the industry!).
those batteries are being recycled for 95%
Wim Borgers nope
They can not
Physically and chemically impossible to be reused
autoblog.com
My Prius has 320,000 miles so far and still running great

***** Both of the electric motor-generators in the Prius are brushless, so they are much more durable than an ICE.

Dieselgate changed that emission line.
Wow
I thought I was the only one who splooged on my nintendogs
I need more reviews like this! Great balance of dirty humor and actual deep thoughts.
I bought a prius to save money. Drove it for a few years. Loved it. Wife totaled it. I bought another one. Cant beat 50 mpg. Plus its comfortable and reliable. I don't think ill ever be without one in the fleet
"Go around, I'm flooring it!"
why do prius drivers always tailgate me and drive agressively. then when I move aside they try to do what I think is a ricer fly by lol
what car you got?
what car you got?
+PewDiePiesucks b20b integra. and I drive the speed limit. those idiot prius drivers are usually wearing suits so im guessing they always running late to their jobs
Devil Gene ok not saying doing the speed limit is bad but about 80% of people drive 5-10 over and all of them see you as a slow driver in their way
@@calebm.5698 But driving a Prius aggressively just gives off that asshole vibe...like why smash the gas in a car meant to conservatively driven?
I don't really get to be the Prius villain out in the Pacific Northwest like I was in the Midwest. When people find out what car I have I reflexively flinch back a bit expecting a snide remark but no one ever says anything out here. I guess I should be happy but not getting to piss people off with my automotive choices is a little less exciting.
P.S. That "hybrid production ruins the environment" thing was debunked!
You make every car review entertaining. This is my first time watching a Prius review through the end.
You made me look at a Prius differently now, Mr. Regular. I contemplate about life everytime I see one lol. Keep it up!
Reading your statement makes me think that you do NOT live in California because if you did -and you pondered life everytime you saw a Prius, you'd have no time to eat, sleep, fuck, work, shower, etc,,,,
Toyota Prius: Official car of "I find that problematic."
Huh?
"It doesn't have a starter motor, so if that electric engine goes kaput, you're screwed." - And how exactly is that any different than a starter motor going bad in a conventional vehicle?
Cost more to fix
Taxi companies are regularly putting over 300k mi in Priuses without having to replace any hybrid system components.
starter cost, 100 bucks, electric motor 2000+, plus about 500 labor, there's the difference.

My favorite part of nentendogs is when I came on the touchscreen XD
The exhaust note of Prius
I wouldn't be caught dead in a Prius.
You're right, the 2016 Prius had a 5 star safety rating.
he should be the new host of top gear
I wish he had mentioned how aggressive other drivers are when you are in a prius
It looks like 15 decillion teenagers had a party in there !!
You've got to love many of the below comments that are now null and void after the recent VW scandal.
I'm a petrolhead and I like the Prius for its fuel economy. Who agrees?
What's another $50 on food and drinks at a bar?"
Now... I'm like "$6.50 for a BOBA SMOOTHIE?! Is it made of GOLD?! For $6.50 I can get 241 MILES in my prius prime. The fuck I wanna spend $6.50 on a god damn BOBA DRINK?"
Watching these videos gives my life purpose.
