Old school comedians are that way. The good ones were workaholics. When they started they were almost penniless pan handlers. They were treated poorly pay wise like many early musicians. Some guys worked and only received free drinks. They really worked hard but they also helped new talent get a leg up. Doesn't matter if it was Groucho Marx , Steve Allen, Johnny Carson or Jay Leno, they helped new talent get a decent start. Early rock musicians did the same. They had to because record companies ripped off anyone they could.
Jay does that because it is part of how he thinks. He has barley touched any of the money he made doing The Tonight Show, it sits in the bank and he "gets by" on his current ( stand-up and events ) paychecks. It seems like his way of staying hungry for success.

TIMESTAMP 03:00 The first time I've ever hear Mr. Leno curse. Kinda weird to hear it :)
He says the F word on Rogans podcast
Ikr it’s weird to hear. I kind of like it ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
10:16 only Jay could pull off a McLaren Happy Meal story! Hilarious lol and yes Jay you were looking for that free Happy Meal skip! They’re delicious!
Side Note, I saw a video of Jay effortlessly crushing Louis CK about his bald head. Louis started it though lol
I miss him on the Tonight Show. Best host ever.
He should do a roadwork style special. Not an hour or whatever in one room, but a carefully edited bunch of jokes from a bunch of gigs in a bunch of cities. Suits his style perfectly and solves most of the problems he has with it.
"right.... yeah" - the interviewer
LOVE Jay...miss his Tonight Show
Fortune should be on SNL.. She is HILARIOUS!!!!
yeah, it's funny how she was trying to mooch Jay's McD's coupons.
Jay is so correct. Comedy is always 1000% better in person.
First Conan has to want to do a stand up special then Jay might consider it
lol awesome comment. fuck leno
@@vipset87 Colbert wishes he had half the carisma and fans as leno 😂
@@austing3893 irrelevant but ok
I love the straight forward. I appreciate the openness..
I love the openness and appreciate the straightforward..
Leno is the best, he is fair and is not a mouthpiece for the democrat party.😊😊😊😊
Nobody under 30 even knows who he is. Probably for the best.
@@The_Cadaver why is that for the best? Plenty of misguided young men could use him as a role model.
That's most people no?
@@lampad4549 I've never understood how he got famous, personally. He's just not that funny to me. When I think of celebrity role models that Gen Z should look to for insight, very few are from Jay's generation, and even fewer are comedians. Plus I'm more of a Letterman/Carson guy, I guess.
The Democratic Party? I've only just started watching the interview but Jay had never been political! What's that got to do with anything?
Damn I love how open and insightful Leno is
He always talks about money as if he doesn't have any.
He spent it all on cars! :)
@@williestyle35 the guy is VERY well known for having an insane car collection. You're dead wrong.
MRWDL800 ,I never said anything about *how or what* Jay spends his millions on. I've seen Jay Leno's Garage and the cars he shows us a lot. The Bugatti section alone is more money than we will ever see, and that is fantastic. I was trying to say Jay's Scottish heritage keeps him working and hungry for more.
Jay will never retire guys he works all the time and Seinfeld and Jay are alike in that they are mechanics of comedy. They know what comedy is and how it works.
I love his take on the PC norms changing and affecting comedy.
"Nobody knows Zelensky from the Ukraine"...jokes on him!; Holy cow!
said the same thing
