    *Y'shaarj is the strongest Old God we've seen*

    Think about it.

    Y'shaarj was particularly hard to kill because he/she has seven heads which could gave him/her a big battle advantages both physical and strategies. The Titans defeats this Old God because, he/she was the Old God that took more that one Titan due for his seven heads. The only way the Titans could kill this Old God was by removing his/her heart. Also, Y'shaarj had enough influence over the entire continent of Pandaria that any negative emotion left its inhabitants vulnerable to it's control.

    The Pandarian obsession with *balance* seems overbearing until you realize it was entirely necessary for their survival. In the Alliance introduction to Pandaria, one of your allies almost falls to *Sha* corruption within minutes of stepping foot on the continent. Imagine what would happen if one of the more warlike Alliance or Horde races were caught in it's influence. But after Garrosh, I guess we don't really have to imagine do we? Any hot blooded Pandarians probably became Sha infested monsters millennia ago.

    Speaking of the Sha, the essence of the Old God was able to spawn seven embodiments of negativity, each of which is nearly as hard to destroy as the Old Gods themselves, seeing as how a mere lapse in mental discipline is all it takes to bring them back to life. You'd be hard pressed to even find another spawn of an Old God, let alone one as powerful as the Sha.

    And all of that was just the heart despite Y'shaarj was already dead (revealing that a Old Gods can die if you know how to kill one), but the heart maintained enough power do all of that. Admittedly, none of the Old Gods we've fought have been in their prime, but when you consider what condition Y'shaarj was in by the time of the Siege of Orgrimmar, it's clear that a Old God can die permanently but it will have a nasty effect on the world.

      +linkzellda It's actually been confirmed that you're right! In the Warcraft Chronicles Vol. 1 that's due out next month, they mention that Y'shaarj had the largest citadels during the Black Empire, and was considered the most powerful Old God. Might be why the Titans killed him first.

    • @LoreWhore
      @LoreWhore  8 лет назад +2

      gyver8448 I thought the same thing when I read that in the Chronicles preview. I'm hoping the rest of the chapter will clear that up (the preview only shows a small snippet). The line though states "The greatest of these bastions was built around Y'Shaarj, the most powerful and wicked of the Old Gods." It could just be that N'Zoth had more cunning, and that it was harder for the Titans to try and imprison the Old God without outright killing him.

    • @linkzellda
      @linkzellda 8 лет назад

      gyver8448 On the battle it doesn't matter how powerful you are but how you fight that it count.

      Y'shaarj was the only old god they tried to kill , the others were imprisoned straight away, and he has control over whole of pandaria because he cursed it with his last breath,
      But like i said, they actually fought with Y'shaarj until death , wich with the other old gods , they imprisoned them... So we can't really know wich one is the strongest

    • @do__ob
      @do__ob 7 лет назад +2

      From the chronicles, we now know that Aman'Thul ripped Y'shaarj from the earth without much effort, and Y'shaarj had the biggest empire and was the most powerful of them. But it doesn't mean that the other Old Gods are weaklings. It is said that C'thun and N'zoth were imprisoned pretty easily by the titan keepers(this is relative of course, "easily" compared to the rest of them) but Yogg'Saron put up a fight by sending his C'Thraxxi generals who were super strong. but he was imprisoned as well in the end. My guess (I could be wrong though) is that N'zoth realised he stood no chance and decided to lay low, as he did until now, so that we wouldn't see him as a threat and would even forget about him until he is ready to fight. C'thun wasn't ready. Yogg'Saron wasn't ready. but N'zoth built the Naga army, he corrupted a dragon aspect and a whole dragonflight, he grew the emerald nightmare, captures neptulon with the help of the nagas, etc. He's a discreet one.
      The shadowpriest artifact weapon whispers that N'zoth is weak, the weakest of the old gods and she doesn't know how he managed to last this long. She may be lying though, to make him look weak.

    N'Zoth from the hs card art we can see an octopus like head with countles tenticles with maws for suckers and thick scales on the top of them. He also has many red eyes. The tenticle of n'zoth hs card explodes for damage on death possibly hint that killing him or part of him might prove disasterus.

      +iLongshot2 The only time I remember it spoken in game was by Warlord Zon'ozz in Dragon Soul. He pronounces it nn'zoth (very gutturally). I think their names are supposed to mirror Lovecraft's in the sense that they're technically impossible to pronounce by human mouths anyway, haha.

    +IFPrototype LQ84i He didn't necessarily win, but he held his own against both C'Thun and Yoggy combined. It's buried in Warlord Zon'ozz's dungeon journal description: "Countless ages ago, Warlord Zon'ozz and his soldiers waged endless war against the forces of C'Thun and Yogg-Saron. Millennia have passed, but the warlord still serves the chaotic might of the Old God N'Zoth."
    During the War of the Ancients, the Old Gods likely did a lot of whispering to Azshara and some of the other Night Elves. It's really only speculation that N'Zoth was among those whispering, since he was the one likely manipulating Deathwing at the time.

      +AzurenGamer Working on some troll-based lore this week, and I got to thinking the exact same thing. My guess is likely different tribes served different Old Gods, or the trolls were able to keep a low profile in the Black Empire and hide away. Maybe we'll uncover another Titan facility and Brann Bronzebeard can mine its database for some more answers. :)

    • @LoreWhore
      @LoreWhore  8 лет назад

      +AzurenGamer If you're small and insignificant enough, the big guys might not notice you, or care. But my guess is you're right, that the Zandalari (which were likely split into small tribes lead by shadow hunters) served one or multiple Old Gods. Unfortunately all Blizzard's said so far is that there were trolls before the Titans, and that their pre-Titan history was likely lost in the wars that followed.

    • @Ais-pd6yl
      @Ais-pd6yl 8 лет назад

      AzurenGamer I believe that primordial Azeroth was somewhat chaotic (The reason why Titans had to have their constructs reshape and stabilize the planet) and that the powers that made Azeroth so chaotic also drew in eternals like Loa, Elune and even the elemental lords that ultimatly became enslaved or joined willingly when the old gods arrived.
      I believe that sometime during the primordial stages of Azeroth the first trolls were born.
      This is all just a theory though.

    • @azurengamer9392
      @azurengamer9392 8 лет назад +1

      Sunshine Ray I dunno, I do think the old gods are chaotic monsters, but at the same time I see titans as perfectionists that will destroy entire worlds simply due to some corruption with no care for its inhabitants... I honestly find neither on the moral high ground.

    To be honest, with Queen Azshara, the Emerald Nightmare, and N'Zoth's upcoming appearance in Hearthstone, I wouldn't be surprised in any way, shape, or form if N'Zoth is going to have a raid in Legion or will be the main enemy in the expansion following Legion. If we fight the Naga in the last or second to last patch of Legion and don't fight N'Zoth, I can easily see him having an entire expansion based around him seeing as he is the only Old God not dead yet and has been able to absorb all this power over time, plus the fact that he has been hinted that he is much more powerful than Deathwing.
    Also, I think it would be really cool if Blizzard could pull off a halfway underwater expansion.

    idk if it was made obvious somewhere or if blizz made this fact or not but the whole 7 heads thing i think the sha's are just shadow versions of all his heads just that the bottom part were the shadowy gas is coming from the bottom of them is when the neck would connect to the body, aka the sha's are just shadow versions of him, and i cant help but think that each of his heads (the sha's) were his actual powers, kinda like fighting him at half power and then split that 50% into 7 and thats what we were fighting (assuming hald his strength came from his actual body).
    makes you wonder if he could just spawn y'shaarjlings like sha's spawn shalings or whatever they are called, makes since to why he was the strongest then since he just overwhelm you with 7 negative emotions to disorient you in battle and then swarm you simultaneously with a swarm of minions (not even counting the mantid army he has).
    kinda like fighting the burning legion.

    I'm pretty sure I've heard N'zoth being the weakest of the old gods on a pure power scale? That Yshaarj was the most powerful before he died, and now Yog Saron is the most powerful one?
    N'zoth is just very scheeming and clever, but not as powerful as several of the other old gods.

    • @Murat0897

      k01dsv Yshaarj was the strongest, Yog Saron was the most vicious, C'thun was the most cunning and finally the most dangerous one of them all is N'zoth because of his intelligence. N'zoth might be the weakest but he is the most clever out of them all which makes him the most dangerous

    So I have a question, Blizzard said that Garrosh madness to control the world and destroy the Alliance was all him and not the old gods influence.
    That is correct, but what if Garrosh had his army, weapons and all prepare, but when landed in pandaria the Sha made him even worst, like we all know Sha only manifest when strong emotions came onto someone, no brainers now Garrosh has a imponent mood, he pridefull, intolerant, has a lot of rage and inner conflict with his father and mentor.
    What if when he came in Pandaria the Sha psuh him further, make him take more rushlike and imprudent desitions, like stolen and Old gods heart just cuz is powerfull, even when you dont know what it can do, and reveal your xenophobic plans with your Horde, etc...
    Maybe the Old god didnt say to him "stole my heart and use me" but may be the Sha influence the events that made him loose into madness, just think about it, he had the army, the resources, the power to destroy the Alliance, he even had reinforcement from all horde races, they hate Garrosh for being so imr¿prudent, but they hate the allies more, theyll sure help himm overcome the alliance and then he will get rid of them soon after the battle is won.
    He just need more time and preparation AND BOOM, someone discover the lands of Pandaria, Garrosh impatience made him think that they need to take over the land and the Pandaren, and in the moment he put a step on the island, he lost control and all his plan came into failere cuz his own allies realice they had enough.
    In cata he was a good but imprudent warchief, he wanted to kill everybody, and he would refuse a fight from anyone, but he knows better as a warchief how battles and wars are won, still a good warchief, he might have lost some honor time to time but honor is a very relative thing to all, then in Pandaria he is impatient to get to the land, after he came he became really rushlike and you couldnt tell what would he do next, and in Draenor you can see him still imprudent and violent, full of hatred for his enemies, but still he knew how to strike he even put himself in position of a follower, and not a warchief cuz he knows better how war a battles are won, that wasnt completly him on Pandaria.
    So what do you think, did you really think he did all of that just cuz he was crazy rage Orc, or do you think the Sha click on the right switch to made him even crazier, and lost sight of his goal?
    PD: Sorry for bad english, It was late, also want to finish this question quick.

    • @LoreWhore
      @LoreWhore  8 лет назад +1

      +Nait The Seventh From what I understand/remember, Garrosh's cruelty and desire to see the Alliance exterminated all derived from himself. When he landed on Pandaria though, he saw the Sha as a possible new weapon. He had his forces scour Pandaria for other artifacts/powers he could weaponize, and a team of goblin excavators eventually found Y'shaarj's sealed heart. He wanted to use that as a weapon, and revived it and brought it to Orgrimmar, and when we laid siege on Orgrimmar, he offered himself as an avatar of the Old God's power in a last ditch effort to fight us. I don't think it's clear how much the sha and the old god's whisperings had an effect on Garrosh's mind, but the hatred and rage was Garrosh's own. I think in the end leadership and power probably corrupted him more than the Old God did.

    why would an old god want the burning legion to come to azeroth? they want to destroy azeroth and old gods need azeroth for power? I dont get why n'zoth would want Azshara to summon the burning legion. Azshara's story is confusing to me, she def sided with the burning legion pre naga during the well of enternity, but it doesnt make sense for her to be allied with an old god and Sargares (who literally wants/wanted to kill all old gods). Help me out if you know.

      +Darrell Vu Supposedly the Old Gods (N'Zoth, Yoggy, and C'thun) intended for the Legion to cause enough chaos that they could break free of their prisons. I don't think their plan would have panned out very well if Sargeras had made it through.

I've noticed that the races that have been affected by the old gods are living races. Does that mean undead are immune to their influence? Do we forsaken pose the biggest threat to this beings? The mogu didnt become corrupt, they lost their goal, "now that the titans are gone? what should se do?" then the thunderking came and lead them to conquer pandaria and rule all with an iron fist.

    • @LoreWhore
      @LoreWhore  8 лет назад

      +Leprosu Gnome
      You're right about the second part, but their descent began due to the Old God's corruption, same as with many of the other Titan-made races of Azeroth. :)
      When the Titans populated Azeroth with their constructs, the Old Gods retaliated with their Curse of Flesh, a corruption that weakened the Titan's forced and better "facilitated assimilation". (learned from Brann Bronzebeard's conversation with the Tribunal of Ages in the Halls of Stone). The Mogu were among those afflicted by the curse, but when they called out to the Titans for answers, they found no reply, as the Titans had already left.
      The fear and anger caused by the curse, as well as the greed and pride, led to a lot of in-fighting within the Mogu tribes. The Age of a Hundred Kings was a time when many Mogu clans fought for power. Lei Shen stepped up and ended the wars by killing Ra-Den, the Titanic Watcher, and becoming the Thunder King. When he emerged he set about creating an empire to lead his people in place of the Titans, enslaving the Pandarens in the process.
      So they lost their goal and the entire cycle of hatred and war began due to the Old God's curse of flesh and the absence of the Titans. Before that, they were united with Ra-Den in their fight against Y'Shaarj and the Black Empire on Pandaria.

    • @LeprosuGnome
      @LeprosuGnome 8 лет назад +1

      Hmm, yes i understand now. But i didnt know that lei shen had killed ra-den to take his power. After all ra-den is a boss in throne of thunder, did those blood mages ressurected him?

    • @LoreWhore
      @LoreWhore  8 лет назад

      +Leprosu Gnome Oops, good call. I guess he didn't kill Ra-den, just defeated him and took some of his power. Ra-den's encounter journal says no one really knows what transpired between the two below the Mogu'shan Vaults. After that, he imprisoned him at the Throne of Thunder, then bragged about having slain a god.

    "N'Zoth (pronounced "Ne-Zoth" or "Ni-Zoth") is [...]" Quote from the wikia. :( I was so happy to hear you get C'thun right, but got this wrong. How, though? Great vid though.

    • @LoreWhore
      @LoreWhore  8 лет назад +1

      +Goldhorn1000 In game it's "Nn-zoth" or "En-zoth" (from Warlord Zon'ozz quotes, the N being more guttural than I can do). Wowpedia quotes "N'Zoth[3] (pronounced nuh-ZAH-th)[2][4] is..." with citations leading to dev talks and the official Hearthstone lore. I tried to keep my pronunciation of it as close to in game as possible.
      Old Gods are based on Lovecraft's Great Old Ones though, and Lovecraft insisted that their names were unpronounceable by human tongues. Warcraft seems to have kept the spirit of that. Would explain why you hear so many different ways to pronounce their names, even among the devs. :)

      Video is quite old, a lot of the Old God lore changed with the Chronicles. As for N'Zoth fighting the other two, it was in Warlord Zon'ozz's dungeon journal description. "Countless ages ago, Warlord Zon'ozz and his soldiers waged endless war against the forces of C'Thun and Yogg-Saron. Millennia have passed, but the warlord still serves the chaotic might of the Old God N'Zoth."

      +Arkantos1900 Actually, since this video Blizz have stated that Y'Shaarj was the most powerful Old God on Azeroth, and he's dead already. Azathoth is probably closer to the Void Lords that created the Old Gods :)

  • @lotr9000
    @lotr9000 8 лет назад

    Well this video is now outdated lore wise. SPOILERS!!!!!! According to the Warcraft Chronicles The Titans were too formidable to come to Azeroth without damaging it Titanic world soul. Regardless of this Aman'Thul the High-father stretched down his massive hand into Azeroth and pulled out Y'Shaarj tearing him from the world and killing him in the process. The outcome of this event was a massive wound on the Titanic world soul known as Azeroth. This wound would later come to be known as the well of eternity. As for the lore bits that said a titan fell and an old god died; The fell part was common misunderstanding from came down from above and died.
