Doctors don’t care. I’ve been suffering for years.

My previous psychiatrist diagnosed me with ADHD combined type but never even told me (I discovered it reading through my old psychiatry notes) or tried to help me!!! I now work with kids with ADHD daily. So I'm helping others with this condition (which I love my job and being able to help them with their struggles) but cant even get the help I so desperately need for myself 😔 Isn't that ironic?! The healthcare system in the US sucks!

I have all the symptoms of inattentive ADHD, but since I have depression and anxiety, my psychiatrist dismissed the idea instantly, saying that it was unlikely to be diagnosed at this stage of my life rather than a child. I'm like, I've been struggling my whole life. I forget everything including my meds. I get stuck in daydreams. I'm a messy person and lack the motivation to clean. I get lost even with directions. I have times where I mentally shut down because I literally feel like a machine where a wrench was thrown into the cogs... My brain tries to move, but it's stuck. I keep losing my jobs because "I'm too slow" but I can't focus long enough to finish my tasks..
I've been tossed around to like 4 psychiatrists now and I'm not sure if I like the new Dr because of his dismissal of my ADHD concerns. 😢😮‍💨

I think I have been on every depression medication in the last at least 30 years . I left the psychiatrist that I had been seeing because when I would talk about my symptoms that were not being addressed, he became manipulative. I switched to a doctor I see on line, which my insurance covers with no copays. He is a very organized, soft spoken and listens. After asking me questions and looking at the paperwork I filled out before seeing him, it did not take him long to say the depression medication doesn’t work because you have ADHD. Depression and anxiety are associated with the ADHD and o being treated with the right medication may solve a lot of how you feel! At 64 my whole life made more sense, also sad at all the missed opportunities. I was in fight or freeze my whole life, I wasn’t sleeping because I felt so depressed I laid in bed and watched tv all day… now I get up and more day then not, actually do things which helped my insomnia!
