This...this is why I wish I was Scottish. I'm half English, half Welsh, but every piece of music relating to Scotland and Ireland makes me wish I wasn't English at all. I love Scotland and I love Ireland. The history, the heritage, the landscapes...that sense of freedom that comes with every note of beautiful music. When I fulfill my dreams of being a novelist, when people know me and read what I write, I'll be preaching my love of Scotland and Ireland. Nothing else. Here's to Scotland!
Jacquie has an amazing voice. Love her and all the guys from Albannach. It was great growing up around them. They made me so proud to be Scottish. My ancestors fought and died for Scottish independence. Saor Alba 2014!
This song is one of the most powerful and inspirational songs I have ever heard in my life. My family background is predominantly Scottish, Irish, Scots-Irish and Viking, and honestly, I can hear my ancestors in this song. Alba gu bràth!!!
My heritage is 50% blended Celtic ( Welsh, Irish, and Scot)....50% English. My cousin had researched our family roots extensively, and I confirmed her findings with DNA testing. My husband and I traveled to the aforementioned countries last year to see the regions from which my family originated. It was a very humbling and affirming experience. Beautiful country, all.
I have seen albannach at the estes park games in Colorado listening to the recording is great but standing in front of the stage feeling the drums reverberate in your chest is unlike any other experience
You wrapped her up in iron chains You thought you'd tied her up You placed a ball around her feet Thought you'd tame her like a pup Your winter winds so dry, aye You stripped her back so bare And then u looked her in the eye And said "it's only fair" Now is it any wonder why We treat you like we do You strut about your mansions like You didnae have a clue But you know who your are, Aye And you know what you've done So don't act so innocent When we rise and end your fun What will you do when the drought comes forth And you cannae bleed the north What will you do when your lakes dry up Will you turn and beg your pup What will you do when your houses freeze With nay oil in your seas Aye will you turn in blind ignorance And beg forgiveness please So maybe now you realise Just how you treated her Cause now she's mighty and she's strong It's too late to right your wrongs But maybe in the future, Aye She'll free you from your shame And then you'll look in awe of her Aye, Scotland is her name Cause then you'll look in awe of her Aye, Scotland is her name
As a descendant of the Kings of Thomond, Munster and Ireland & connected through family marriage to the descendants of the Normans who first landed and took the kingship of Leinster, I appreciate the understanding you show of our history and character, it warms my heart greatly. I implore you not to forget that the English and Welsh played a part in making us so strong, this should never be forgetten. Your history & identity beautiful and deserves your love ;-) We're all brothers of humanity
Powerful and Prophetic,I can see it and I get it. My prayer is that my Countrymen will rise from their slumber, wipe the sleep from their eyes and find the courage of their convictions to spell it out at the ballot box......Time to rise!
as a little girl & the bag pipers would lead a parade, my heart would swell in my chest & tears wld run down my cheeks. Nevr understd it 4 many years. My paternal grandfather came to USA 1923 from Co Antrim. Then in genealogical research found that my ancestors came from one of the oldest known clans from the Scottish Highlands on BOTH sides of my parents!! One day, I'm going to Scotland, to the Highlands and lay upon the ground & bawl my eyes out for my lineage AND my people of Scotland.
I was born in Scotland, Greenock to be exact. I've lived in America since I was 3, 40 years now. I've only visited once when I was12, my relatives keep telling me I need to come back. After seeing this video, I'm going to make an effort to do just that.
I am of Scottish decent through my great-great grandmother Louisa Alice McKenzie. Before finding this out by doing genealogy, I have always loved the bagpipes and drums together!
ive lived in the US all my life. Im a Scot, and for some reason, Scotland seemed more like home when i visited there, more than where ive lived all my life. idk if ill ever be able to, or if ill be able to move myself so far from my family, but ive had the thought of moving there for a lil while. or possibly get a dual citizenship if thats at all possible :P
@leithboy1 Bravo, a very good way of putting the point across. We have been fed apathy for generations and had the seed of religious bigotry planted within us to keep us from uniting as one.
I'm German, but I was educated in Edinburgh and supported the SNP in sympathy with my ex-partner, who is Aberdonian. My understanding of the history of the British Isles is that the English - who seem to be the target of this song were both responsible for terrible atrocities in Ireland and were also assimilated in large numbers and became Irish. In Scotland, nothing was done that wasn't inflicted on themselves. England subsidies Scotland to a sum far greater than oil revenues. Nasty song.
I love this song! I'm half Canadian, half Scottish( Close ancestral connections to Macdonald lord of the Isles, Fraser, and Royal Stuart clans). All of my ancestors fought in the battles for Independance, more recently the battle of Culloden moor in 1745. Ever since then my family has been Jacobites. So I say: Yes to Scottish Independance. And also, how did the English make us what we are today? They stole the crown from the rightful king! And unified the country by killing the Macdonald cla
Living in Ireland, I go to the Highlands once a year, maybe having distance relatives from my Great Grand mother side 'Burns' and cousins on my Grand fathers side from Scotland by the name of 'Campbell' may have something to do with Scotland and the Highlands being in my blood. And I have the red hair and all the traits associated with it lol
Um... The SNP shot itself in the foot. Fish lady resigned over it. Independence is now more unpopular that it was at the referendum. Get woke go broke. Jesus wept.

❤ Should be our national anthem

Wow, first time I heard this, powerful.

Fantastic, and we will be in Scotland soon- want to stand in the Highlands where my kin lived before I leave this Earth one day
I have seen albannach at the estes park games in Colorado listening to the recording is great but standing in front of the stage feeling the drums reverberate in your chest is unlike any other experience
Saw two of their shows at the Celtic Festival in Colorado Springs. Twas amazing
Estes Park is where I saw them too. Wonderful!
YES! King Alexander (Alister), my distant relative. His castle is pictured at the beginning of the video. I love this song dearly!
My grandparents left Scotland for New Zealand 70 years and yet it is amazing how much these images and music mean to me.
You wrapped her up in iron chains
You thought you'd tied her up
You placed a ball around her feet
Thought you'd tame her like a pup
Your winter winds so dry, aye
You stripped her back so bare
And then u looked her in the eye
And said "it's only fair"
Now is it any wonder why
We treat you like we do
You strut about your mansions like
You didnae have a clue
But you know who your are, Aye
And you know what you've done
So don't act so innocent
When we rise and end your fun
What will you do when the drought comes forth
And you cannae bleed the north
What will you do when your lakes dry up
Will you turn and beg your pup
What will you do when your houses freeze
With nay oil in your seas
Aye will you turn in blind ignorance
And beg forgiveness please
So maybe now you realise
Just how you treated her
Cause now she's mighty and she's strong
It's too late to right your wrongs
But maybe in the future, Aye
She'll free you from your shame
And then you'll look in awe of her
Aye, Scotland is her name
Cause then you'll look in awe of her
Aye, Scotland is her name
THANK YOU, now I can sing along to my favorite song with the lyrics
