I love how Reach’s Spartans actually look pretty realistic and believable considering how their armor actually look metal and not plastic and look worn/scratched.

Mohamed Hosam Looks like plastic to me
Rookie458 that was definitely more due to the better graphics though. Still a good point, and I agree
@@czi125 same to you buddy
Plus it was made in 2010
Reach definitely had the best looking and most believable spartan armor.
For Spartan IIIs though only.
@@NotARangerBoy Look at Jorge....
@@NotARangerBoy - For the game, yes, canonically not all spartan IIIs had mjolnir armor. And those who did, like noble team. Wore an earlier version of MK V armor which we know is what chief wears in the first game. Graphically they're different (of course) but in terms of the lore, chief's armor is a more advanced version of MK V.
I kind of disagree. While Halo 3 had less variety, I thought it overall had the best versions of almost every armor permutation that has come out since. There were definitely some good ones in Reach, but they didn’t resonate for me in the same way.
I like spartan 4 armor more personally

Agreed. Although... it may not be entirely noticeable, but in ODST, any Emblem you choose will actually show up on The Rookie's armor in Campaign and Firefight. However, it's pretty much only the emblem and its colors. Nothing else is really customizeable.
Reach had the best armor customization options. Halo 4 had the second best options. Halo 3 had the 3rd best. Halo 2 and H2A are about the same, although H2A gives you 4 more armor options than Classic Halo 2 (2 more Elite and 2 more Spartan). Halo 5 is only slightly better than Halo CE in terms of customization, but it's otherwise dog shit. Also, does anyone else think that Locke's armor bears a strange resemblance to the Security RIG from Dead Space 2? I mean, I LIKE the Security RIG from Dead Space 2... and Dead Space 2 in general, but I'm just wondering if anyone else thinks they look similar?
I loved costmizeing my character in reach

Noble team: hello recruit.

It was fun in Halo Reach to sort of role-play by switching armor and colors based on the mission. Like in the night time level using black scout armor, using bulky armor in Tip of the Spear, etc.

Halo CE definitely had the best armor customization.

The perfect customization would be allowing you to change each single part of the armour: colour, helmet, visor, chest, shoulders, arms, forearms, gloves, belt, legs, knees and boots. Then is time to add attachments, accesories and other complements

I think it's mostly a tonal difference. (Not saying 4 and 5's armor can't look better; it can, but I don't expect it to look as worn and rugged as Reach's did.) Reach was very military-focused, very rugged in the middle of a tough war. 4 and 5's tone and era require a different design style. Not necessarily some of the ninja-esque armor designs they have, but at least cleaner, more pristine, and a BIT sleeker.
Looks like starving children in China manufactured the Halo 5 plastic armor
Actually there was a range of colours you could do for customisation in the first Halo, it wasn’t just red or blue for team matches, in free for all Death Match you could change your Spartan to any colour you wanted, I always made my Spartan Black because what’s cooler than a Green Spartan? In terms of design most of the armor remakes in Halo 5 look good, like the Noble Team and MK4 and 5 armor sets. However they all look like plastic, the colors are way too bright, and the colored undersuits make everything look messy.
True, but it looks really stretched out for some reason.

Im so glad they updated MCC to allow more armor customization. Its been years since ive played a halo game and i love being able to go through all the old armor sets back when i played 3 and Reach
I don't like the new armor sets in Halo 3. I hate it they changed it in Halo 4 style.
Reach had the best armour customization hands down. If they could combine that with the aspect of unlocking armour through achievements like in halo 3. You'd have the perfect halo.

The Ghost when you do melee in halo 5 it actually sounds like plastic
Also in halo 5 you can only choose sets of armors and helmets wtf
Honestly, I kinda wish there was a matchmaking mode of Spartans vs Elites with good customization options for both. Make it so you can enter as a Spartan, and Elite, or Random and thus motivate people to create a desired look for both Spartans and Elites instead of just one
Love how you used Dead Island’s “who do you voodoo?” :))
I remember back then when friends would tell me the EVA helmet is the “Shoot me in the head!” Helmet, since the visor is like a huge target. And when my friends and I tried to get the hayabusa set. Then (Still in Halo 3) I got Recon while my friends didn’t, they got jelly, and unfriended me. T^T I can’t even remember how I got it.
NoxWyvern probably when Bungie has the 7 on 7 event. You had to match up against a team of bungie developers and beat them. Helioskrill is a great set, and it has an achievement to get it! LEGEND, to complete Halo's CE/2/3/4 on Legendary! Other than that I love the ODST helmet

Good job 343.
Now that’s not necessary
The Big Yes c’mon halo 4 campaign is good
Axol ಠ_ಠ Not the gameplay.
The Big Yes honestly I think the halo 4 gameplay it’s pretty similar to reach, the only significant differences it’s that you can always sprint and... i don’t see what else, the graphics and art style it’s different but the mobility feels almost the same and the weapon handling too, the vehicles are not the same but they’re not that bad at h4, and I know there are things that 343 could have done better whit halo 4 but the others halo games also have some things that some people may dislike but I think you should give halo 4 a chance all halo games deserve it. Also I don’t understand why would you like halo 5 gameplay and not the halo 4 usually people who doesn’t like h4 doesn’t like H5 either.
I remember going for the Recon Helmet challenge back then in Halo 3 with my mates, literally probably one of the biggest moments in my childhood.
In Halo 3, the Mk. V, Halo: Reach, Mk. 6 (In my opinion had the best looking version of that helmet), Halo 4, the Mk. V as a remembrance of Halo 3, and Halo 5, the Helioskrill/Achilles.

Deathtrooper40 Yes, your elites are clapped
I had an operator helmet, security shoulder, breacher chest, tac pad and jump legs combo in Reach that I always used in multiplayer. Good times.
I still remember going through all the challenges to get recon armor with 3 of my friends, one of the best gaming experiences ever.
The FOTUS Helmet is definitely a meme, so the design was intentional.
PapaFrost i liked the helmet
Fotus set doesn’t have a knife I think meaning helmet is the knife
It looks like they were trying to go for gundam unicorn Or eva one

It’s all fun and games till someone gets stabbed by the fotus helmet
From Reach on I have always rocked the Mark V helmet.
Halo 3: Mark V with EOD Chest and Security Shoulders.
Reach: Mark V Helmet and Shoulders, Grenadier knees, and Collar Breacher [R]
Halo 4: Half Mark V (Helmet, torso, one of the shoulders), and the other half Mark VI (the other shoulder, the arms and legs)
Halo 5: Mark V Delta helmet with the Mark IV Gen 1 armor.
All of them with Gold/Legendary/Autumn Visors with a dark blue primary and brick/vermillion red secondary.
Halo Reach had the best armor customization. My favorite helmet is ODST. I like to combine it with different armor pieces. :)
You could change your color in CE, and it mostly affected free for all type modes like Slayer.
ODST is my favorite too
My favorite armor is the Commando armor in Halo: Reach. Reach had the best customization no doubt.

Halo 5 is last out of spite do to the way you have to unlock them, not only does it show nothing that you have done but for most who don't find the grind relaxing end up not getting the armor they want and give up so take the personality away too. If you argue Helioskrill as a valid argument you are right but I can hardly count it considering I had to play a different game or actually 4 different games to get it not Halo: 5 in my book its an MCC armor.

Wholliam I’m only referring to the multiplayer armor. Campaign looks amazing but MP looks horrid
Somebody who loves EOD in Reach too
I love my Scout helmet in Halo 3/4/5, and I loved my Operator and Mark V helmet in Reach. I'm usually changing up other armor systems to see what I like best
I loved and hated H3's unlock system. Tying them to achievements meant some of them were super challenging or luck based (especially multiplayer achievements) but in doing that wearing the armor actually meant something. I managed to get every piece after the vidmaster challenges came out, something I was really proud of.
Halo Reach was good, the armor customization was the best in the series. However, it far too long to hit the higher ranks. You need to devote like an entire year of in-game time to get close to inheritor. That disappointed me so much because all I wanted was the Mark IV but never got it. When Reach launched on MCC it really sucked having to start over, especially since I got the blue flame in the original Reach.

In halo five you earn req points, so It's still a reward, you don't just get the armor.
16:44 **Teh Spearhead Guy disliked that**
I'm all about Reach's customization. There was a clear hierarchy and path to it, and it just let you rush towards a certain thing if you wanted by skipping other things.
Rogue was my go-to in 3. Good customization, but very simple. In a good way. I've always loved 3'd artstyle that felt distinctly fantastic while not being wholey unreasonable, with vibrant colours on simple yet manageable shapes.
Recon + flames is how I defined my spartan. He also carried a grenade belt, medkit, tacpad, and had a large back shoulder for cover with a smaller one for flexibility on his front side. Halo Reach had spartans that genuinely looked like they were wearing bulky, strong armour that they had to work around.
4... was pretty bad. In style. 4 jumped the shark and it felt like spartans went from wearing armour with a skinsuite underneath to wearing a skinsuite with plastic bits velcroed on. It's fine on bulkier models like with Chief himself, but most of the IV's looked bad. A shame, since many of the old-guard armour pieces were pretty good. I never really got a spartan to call my own since I gave up on the worst multiplayer in the series fairly quick.
5 could have been great, but there was no way to get what you wanted without shilling out money or not having any other things taking time from your day. I STILL don't have a spartan I'm okay with years later. I get by with my Nightfall helmet, but the rest of my amour is just whatever looks least bad with it. Had they divided the armour into categories (like, all Recon starts with base Recon and you pay or unlock further changes to the base version), that might have been okay, but they clearly just prioritized money over anything else.
4 had the best armor slots and the second worst designs
3:51 I also had the chiken emblem back in the day!
Orbital Drop Shock Trooper and Hayabusa permutations are my favorites

@@kanecary435 I think I made it to Lt Colonel (maybe a few ranks higher) before I quit playing
Unpopular Opinion but I really liked Halo 4s armour customization ONLY, ONLY because it didn't take as long to get armour. While in Reach you needed the rank and credits to get the armour, you only needed rank in 4. Other than that I love everything about Reach
IMO, armor in Halo 4 was nowhere near as good as Reach or 3, but what it did better was having less of a grind
Halo 4 had the right idea with the armor slots and variants but really fuckin bad art design like 5
I think it was more satisfying to get the armour you want after a longer amount of time grinding. Besides, it's no harm done really since Reach's multiplayer was kickass.

3. Earn the credits to unlock it, great (you'll have to repeat as soon as we show you a cooler armor set AND you spent your credits), oh and by the way there are attachments to grind for too
I HATED Reach's unlock system. Just thinking about it, I can compare the feeling of frustration it gave me with the feeling of claustrophobia.
I'm surprised you didn't mention Halo 4's preorder bonus
I remember doing so and getting the DeadEye helmet, and I just was so happy with it
It became my favourite helmet, I'd never unlock and use anything else for more than maybe a day before going back to that mix of ridged yet curved lines, and the way a high contrast colour scheme focused in on my face like I was really "staring" at whoever i was aiming at
I still remember the feeling when I got the scout shoulders on Rat's nest.
You had to be a inheritor to have the skull pilot helmet
And buy every other armor
An alternate title would be:
The de-evaluation of halo armor customization.
there used to be these collectibles ages ago (think crazy go gos for comparison) for halo and i found a pink hayabusa mini figure. ofc as a child who'd loved halo 3 and seen this rare armour in MP i was so happy. good times lol
Man I loved halo reach, I haven’t played it in years but now I really want to play it again
Is it even a question? Halo Reach had the best customization by far.
What if I want to identify and play in the multiplayer as a Warthog with a Gauss cannon, hmm that's what I thought, that's why I stopped playing Halo
The EOD helmet was always my fav I used it in every halo that had it when halo 5 didn’t have it till they came out with the halo reach pack I had to get it I did like the rouge helmet too was pretty cool
I will always truly know that without a doubt, reach had the best armor customization. Every helmet had lore, a specific believable function, the it makes sense that the variants would either have more armor and or milint links. I’m happy 343 is going back to the classic armor sections. The new stuff in 4 & 5 looks like it would protect anything
Halo 5 definitely was awful, 90% looked like crap. Halo 4 was okay, but something about them seemed wrong. I agree with you, detail in the simplicity was nice. Lots of options but they kept it limited which made all the armor feel unique, even ODST was better than 4 and 5 and all it did was give you characters for firefight.
Its funny how it starts devolving after halo reach
didn't 4 have more customization options?
Didn't 4 have worse customization options?
@@rs6000_ in 4 you were able to customize both wrists and knees. reach didn't do that. 4 had a better customization system than reach
Armor Customization Halo 1 < Halo 2 < Halo 3 ODST < Halo 3 < Halo 5 < Halo 4 < Halo Reach
Reach E.O.D and focus are two of my favourite. I loved grinding for the helmets of reach pack in halo 5 to get the E.O.D.
i actually think the fotus helmet is honestly really badass, it gave me the same implications that cayde-6's horn was utilized like, kinda a "last resort" type deal
What’s bad about the Pathfinder helmet? I thought it looked great. Still use it to this day.
edit: Helmets like it started popping up in H4 because of Promethean influence. Out of all of the Prom. helmets you mentioned, PT is the only one I like.
What about the Arbiter armour that you get for completing every level in the master chief collection on legendary
they added a variant that is unlocked thru req packs that makes it less special
@@flexican5399 req packs arent a thing in MCC
@@tinpan6052 no shit, we are obviously talking about h5 here
@@flexican5399 look i misunderstood the comment cause of what your comment said and I quote "they added a variant that is unlocked thru req packs that makes it less special" so thats why i commented that
@@flexican5399 and anyways the original comment was about MCC
I was one of the few people in the world who had the scout helmet before the achievement, I absolutely stomped a team of devs and got it as a gift about a week after h3’s launch. The good ol days
Say what you will but I actually liked Halo 4’a customisation the most, I didn’t like how plastics Spartans looked coming from reach where everything was so gritty but there were a lot of designs I thought were really cool and I found myself switching it up a lot more than reach and 3 where I basically just stuck with my scout and recon armor.
Yea halo 4 customization is my favorite too, though is reach is a second though.
You have balls for saying that...lol
I just could never like the way the spartans/armour looks in Halo 4/5.
It just rips me out of the game and feels weird.
@@Hedgehog1039 you just have to find the right armor. a lot of sets don't look great as functional armor, but then there are others that look protective and secure on the body
@@CarmenFiala Yes that is the problem. It can take you forever to get a decent set of armour thanks to Reqs. On top of this most of the other people playing are wearIng horrible armour which is painted like it belongs in a kids cartoon (along with gun skins).
These things really detract from my enjoyment because they feel out of place. It's unfortunate that most shooters are going down this route. I really don't like it. It makes it feel more like a joke around rather than a battle.
I'd be like it if they gave us a toggle to turn them off visually from my side or something like that.
I know that it is supposed to make it more appealing to more people but it really breaks my experience by changing the tone of the multiplayer.
