Omg thank you so so much for being so kind and for your advice! I’m on day 4 today and still on track, and your encouragement and video has made me even more determined! I love how you explained taking small steps to increase and build the discipline. (it might be common sense to some people but I really never thought of that😭) In the past I have gone from my terrible habits to trying to go balls to the wall in one day and I’ve always failed, but I will be taking your advice on making small changes at first to be successful this time. Truly, my mind is blown. so thankful for you and your video ❤

    • @EverythingIsPhotogenic

@Gaia_Seraphina what a misanthropic view. Creating the false dichotomy between being on social media and accepting being treated horribly, irrespective of subject matter, and keeping to yourself is a vapid take. Let's just relent to people who will literally call people horrendous names and recruit others to bully them over even the most anodyne of subjects, like people sharing art or music. Seems like a great idea! Or maybe, people can just treat others like human beings. For instance, not sharing a malicious thought because people are bored and want to take down the creative endeavors of others, but rather scroll by. People who enjoy content can take an extra moment to say something constructive to outweigh the trolls.
We all don't have to agree with each other, but a modicum of respect is in order. I'm pretty sure most people aren't really that wrapped around the axle about opinions challenging their material in measured and intelligent way. Telling people things like they are ugly, they will be alone forever, to stop living... it's uncalled for. It's not a "consequence" of being on social media, it's unacceptable behavior, full stop. 🙄

The sad thing about FA is that it's impossible to be comfortable in a plus size body. I mean physically comfortable. From seats being too small to being harder to walk up stairs, it's just uncomfortable. I understand the message was to love yourself regardless of your size, but the narrative switched to fat is healthy and happy. As someone who was once over 300 pounds, I can tell you, it's not healthy or happy. Diets don't work. You have to eat to live and you have to get rid of processed junk. Losing weight is hard. Telling strangers on the internet that you are so happy is much easier. I hope she is able to find what makes her happy.

I coincidentally ended up moving back to my hometown after a 260lb weight loss and it is disgusting how much nicer people are now including people I used to know that don’t even recognize me or know that they know me now. I also have so many more opportunities. I was never lazy fat I was a 400lb healthcare professional busting my butt every day and never feeling like I could take a breather for fear of being seen as a “fat lazy slob” I’m now battling health issues and am on medical leave from work and I know if I was still 400lbs I would be treated much differently by the friends and family telling thin me to rest and take care of myself. Everyone should have to live 24 hours as a morbidly obese body.

The conversation about weight loss in the FA spaces always seems to be around "getting skinny". But nobody needs to be skinny, unless that's how their body is naturally. For people with obesity or overweight, losing 10% of body weight leads to huge improvements in their health and quality of life. That alone may be enough to move a person to a much lower risk category and to a much improved existence. But there is no room for nuance in conversations like this, unfortunately.

It is normal to feel scared especially when it means a lot to you. Being scared and feeling weak and unsure does not mean that you are weak. It is a normal emotion for the situation and you need to accept it and realize that you can do it even if you do not feel like you always can. Thoughts and feelings are not always the reality. It’s more like willpower atrophied, but also that hope atrophies. What we think of as willpower is really the belief that the future CAN BE IMPROVED AT ALL. See, it’s not willpower that erodes over time. It’s hope. Many people become defeated and don’t fight anymore. Ask me how I know.

And perhaps the biggest of all.... FORGIVE YOURSELF when you have a bad day. bad days happen. bad meals happen. its okay. Forgive yourself and allow it to be a MOMENT in time, and next meal, or next day.... do better.

My heart goes out to this girl, when she said she's tried hundreds of diets and they didn't work. I know that feeling, that frustration that you can't even believe the words or promises you make to yourself. It's so disheartening to tell yourself something and not even completely trust you will do it.
I agree with you completely about the small incremental changes though. This year alone because of small incremental changes I have gone from no exercise, shitty half assed barely low carb eating, not drinking water, no routines or structure. To Now nicotine free, gym 3 times a week, healthy keto diet with routines in place so my life is less stressful. It only worked because it was small changes at a time, small changes that started to build, I started to believe in what I said I would do and now 4 months later my life is drastically different and so much healthier. If I'd tried to change it all at once I would have failed it.
I think of it as "If you were just given your dream life tomorrow how would you handle it? Most people would immediately sabotage it, or fumble it all because they didn't have time to work to become the person that could handle having that dream life they wanted. It was dropped in their life and they were ill prepared for it. "

As a boomer, I can’t imagine telling everyone on social media about my life and my woes… just do something about them…anything. Do it for you…..not your subscribers or your followers or haters.. you! It’s your journey and the results may never be good enough but that’s no reason to give up. Athletes look like they do because they train all the time and understand nutrition…not fad diets or starvation…nutrition! Eat food that’s nourishing and do the work and results will happen. Strength train for your bones and metabolism and walk to burn fat and increase happiness….walk far and walk a lot! As much as you can! You will feel better even when you don’t think you look better. Getting older will sneak up so fast so good habits now pay off! I’m learning that the hard way! Weight is just a number but any kind of activity will always pay off and nutrition too! Our bodies are made to move and they need fuel…it’s that simple ❤❤❤❤ even if it’s a walk to the mailbox! Progress is progress! I lost my mother too and my then husband retired and then brother passed a couple years later and found walking very long distances helped me thru the sadness and loss…

It is sad how many people who loose a lot of weight tell you that one thing they noticed was how different everyone treats you after you lose weight.
I've dealt with it my whole life. It's frustrating and takes a toll on your mental health even when you tell everyone your fine. My BED was out of control when I was following the body positivity movement.
Now I'm just making changes and watching calories. Already down 21lbs and I still eat pizza and snacks.

I can 💯 relate to hating the gym. Public gyms specifically because there is no quality control with the clientele. Didn’t enjoy tracking calories and repetitive lifting was boring.
For whatever reason, bodybuilding practice has established itself in the mainstream fitness industry as THE way to health and fitness. Problem is most people don’t train to be bodybuilders.
I’d still be an obese, struggling dieter had I not found calisthenics and CrossFit. I fell in love with the bodyweight holds and skills and just focused on learning them. Oly lifting is WAY more gratifying than the basic press, squat, deadlift, whatever. The weight melted itself off, didn’t need to count calories, or fast. Eat whatever I want as long as it’s minimally processed.
Before discovering CrossFit and calisthenics, all I found in my search was “gym this, calorie tracker that, split day” mumbo-jumbo. Similarly to how the beauty industry has a narrow view of beauty, I’d dare say the fitness industry has the same issue respectively.

When you start this you have to have the mindset that the opinions of others about you efforts to lose weight and get healthy mean absolutely nothing. It’s your health, not theirs. When I started working out I was getting “advice” from people who were in far worse shape than I was and had no idea what they were talking about. Have a final goal where you want to be, to keep from getting frustrated about meeting this goal set interim goals and focus on them. Keep your goals realistic, like losing 1 to 2 pounds a week, unrealistic goals will kill your diet and exercise plan.

It's unfortunate that people feel like they have to apologize for doing something for their health. I have no problems with people not wanting to lose weight, it's not my business. I don't think you have to lose weight to be happy. But to make it your business to harass another person for losing weight is just such miserable behavior.

I always felt I was the fat friend. I feel her so much. I wanted to loose weight to be who I wanted. It didn't change me as a person, just my clothing and how it fit. I don't think its wrong to hate my old body. it didn't serve me and I was the issue. I'm not skinny now, just smaller and healthier. It seems like larger people in the body positivity community see change is bad, when that's how we evolve and get better.

I hope this woman does seek therapy, especially with someone who specialises in eating disorders. She sounds lik she's been through some very hard emotional things and having support for that will be important. Also it's not about discipline or willpower, it's about consistency when it comes to losing weight and getting healthier.

One of the biggest mistakes in weight loss is thinking of it as a starting and stopping. It should be a health journey that you can stick to for the rest of your life, if it’s not sustainable you will fail. People want instant results. Start slow, start taking a walk daily, start making dietary changes slowly. Start now and in one year, two years, your body will have changed so much!

Good for her! I tell you the older you get the worst it gets. I'm 290 and I have so many health issues now at 38. I can't imagine weighing even more than that! Everything freaking hurts. I can't tie my own damn shoes. My blood pressure is through the roof. You're body feels like it's rotting with the smells and the sores. Being obese is just awful and no one should live like this. Screw them all. You do whatever makes you happy.

    A couple things...
I don't want to make this political but I think it's safe to say that the majority of people who are a part of or support the fat acceptance/healthy at any size movement would identify as liberal. That being said, I find it awfully hypocritical when the people who claim to support and love and care for everyone (especially marginalized groups) are the first ones to bully someone who no longer falls in line.
I've been paying pretty close attention to politics since about 2018. I noticed that the women who claim to support women (feminists) will not support all women. They support women who think like they do. I've been called a traitor to my gender for being a stay at home mom who doesn't want to work and just wants to raise a family and be a home maker for the rest of my life. When I've spoken about being a bi woman who now votes republican, I'm called a traitor by these same people who "love and accept everyone"..
I cannot tell you how many times I've seen a white liberal call a black conservative derogatory names simply because they don't like how they vote. They don't vote how the white person thinks they should. It's disgusting and you can find many videos about this from black conservatives.
The left support the lgbt+ community... and specifically trans men and women at the moment. That is until you're a detransitioner. Then you're treated like scum of the earth. You're a traitor. You're treated like a black conservative.
I'm saying all this to say I'm not surprised but it is a damn shame that anyone feels they need to apologize for wanting to lose weight. The people who supported her and cheered her on will turn their backs on her... and probably label her a traitor.

Im not sure how people got it in their heads that accepting fat people as human beings and treating them decently and advocating for them in social and health areas of life meant that fat people can't lose weight or shaming weight loss/fitness influencers (yes I'm saying fat because I am fat and tbh I don't think there's anything wrong with being fat if it doesn't cause health issues). You would say this stuff to people irl so why would you say it on the internet? Everybody taking everything to extremes is the one of the WORST things about humanity.
