  • The FINAL test flight of the recent group of aircraft released by JustFlight - this time taking the Piper PA-28 Turbo Arrow IV for a flight from Boonville to Little River.
    Following this flight I will be returning to "flight training", and will be exploring all manner of basic flight maneouvers in the Cessna 152. Wish me luck!

    Thanks for doing a short review on all the updated Justflight planes. I have them all but haven't flown them in quite a while. LIke you, I purchased the bundle but in the marketplace so still awaiting the update.

    The tee tail was of no particular advantage and meant for less pitch authority on take off roll until 50 knots or so. We had an early one at our FBO and had magneto trouble above 7500 feet. Troubleshooting was to no avail until we were notified the plane needed pressurized mags. Oh, now you tell us? Some plumbing to the manifold took care of that. I watched an Arrow II come in for a landing and the gear was still up at about 10 feet off the runway. They popped out right before it got critical.

      The avionics switches caught me out in the default state of the aircraft - I expected everything to be off - but it wasn't :) Thankfully the tablet claims to have "state saving", so doing a full switch-off of all the devices around the cockpit should be remembered. I'll test it - maybe record a video showing the test.
      Great story about the gear deployment :)

      @@jonbeckett I have a better one for you. When the first Seneca came out a ferry pilot was tasked with flying one to Europe. It got two tanks in the cabin of 50 gallons each, or maybe more IDK. Once out over the Atlantic either something clogged the mast that sensed air flow on the left side of the fuselage or maybe the diaphragm inside failed. The result was the gear came down. After some quick calculations it was determined the additional drag would eat the fuel supply before reaching land. In this early model there was no mechanism for holding the little over ride lever in the up position. A solution was fashioned by somehow jamming the lever and the flight continued to the airport. Piper was advised to make a provision for holding the lever and a small pin was added to lock it.

    The original Arrow was my 1st MSFS payware. Over 2 years later, it still stands up to scrutiny. Great flight model, beautifully made, excellent sounds. Thanks for revisiting.

    Another great video. I like those experiments in navigation.
    Nice aircrafts and harder to fly as it is more realistic compared to stock aircrafts like Cesna 152 or 172.

    So which is your favorite after flying all the variants? I only have the turbo arrows and between them I don't like how the IV flies. The nose seems to wobble as I bank and make turns while the III is very stable. I read up on the high tail of the IV and it seems it was fashionable back then to make a high tail. However in this case the high tail caused stability issues IRL and it's evident in how the IV flies in the sim.
    Regarding the waste gate comment you made about the turbo-light when it's flashing, I also read about that. If I remember correctly this plane doesn't have the automatic pressure relief valve as part of the turbo system which releases pressure when it gets too high. The flashing light means the engine pressure is too high and you're damaging the engine. So you must lower the engine pressure manually because it's not automatic. Maybe you can double-check my memory on that.

    • @jonbeckett
      @jonbeckett  Год назад +2

      Maybe the high tail actually CAUSED the problems I read about some time ago then - with airflow at high angles of attack impacting horizontal and vertical stabiliser authority.

    I bought the same package three days ago. I’m really liking it. The only problem I’ve found is that the mixture lever will not move into idle cut off. If I use my mouse it will only to 40%. Have you had similar issues?

    • @jonbeckett
      @jonbeckett  Год назад

      Nope - not had any issues with the mixture lever. I use a lever on my throttle quadrant for mixture - perhaps that's the difference ?

    • @gvdent
      @gvdent Год назад

      There is a small lock element to the right of the lever which prevents it from going lower than 40% unless unlocked. It's either badly, or not at all, visible from the default pilot position.

  • @luisbrrds
    @luisbrrds Год назад +1

    To start this aircraft, you need to push all the throttles forward and then inject fuel using the red button on the left side of the GNS. Wait until the fuel flow indication reaches its peak and then start the engine with the power lever slightly open. This way you did it, the aircraft would never start

    There are some constructive remarks over the circuit pattern and also the final approach that you've performed.
    Firstly, by 19:33 you had space to begin the turn but your landing gear wasn't yet deployed (must be during most - if not all - stages of the circuit). That lately extended and sabotaged your approach to the runway.
    Additionally, once you were able to get aligned: Your attitude (and also altitude) turns too - dangerously - low, because you're not following the visual references on the ground; not until barely you're about to touchdown.
    I.E: 21:40. You're persistently aiming to the threshold instead of the 'Runway Aiming Point', which replaces PAPIs in their very same function. Had the path indicator been present, it would had placed you at three reds and one white.
    Following the last advice is remarkably relevant in real life, specially when faced with a scenario that imposes so many obstacles in ground as 'Little River' does.
    Altitude (time) marks the difference.

    • @jonbeckett
      @jonbeckett  Год назад +1

      The video was really more about looking at the aircraft than performing correct procedures - but you're right. There are various other videos I've recorded practicing more correct circuits. I'll be doing a video at some point soon about "the pattern", and looking at common entry and exit points.

    It’s incredible how poor it is their attention to the important stuff like they implemented tie downs but not the pitot cover, there is no walkaround nor maintenance (except 2-3 items), you can’t tow the aircraft with the tow bar, there are no failures except for some little things on the engine and what they do in the update ??? Update camera presets for passenger and baggage view

    Piece of crap! Autopilot doesn’t work with the GTN750 or the GNS530. With autopilot on could not control pitch or altitude. No altitude hold button. Deleted and trying for a refund.

    • @jonbeckett
      @jonbeckett  3 месяца назад

      The autopilot works fine for me. The real unit doesn't have altitude hold - it's up to the pilot to trim the aircraft manually - however in the simulated aircraft there is a hidden click-spot that implements altitude hold.
