Fabulous!! She not only throws her hands up for some of those terrific wails, but the 3 backups do, too, and then she adds a whole bunch of whoops near the end that were not in the original. She is at her peak here. Wow.
What a nice surprise! I recently found 'live' Aretha on Soul Train, same song.... fun to watch. Saw Aretha with my gf at Radio City in Manhattan 74?.. we were in our later teens ; ) Awesome!
The70's..... such a beautiful time for black culture & music.....Women were respected, social commentary, the message was love, Good Times, What's Happening, The Jeffersons, Flip Wilson, Sanford and Son, Naturals were cut tight, Soul Train Saturday Mornings, J5, Muhammad Ali, SOUL Brotha, Right on!!!....Shaft, Foxy Brown, Super Fly, Ice Cream truck in the hood, Afro pick with the Black Power salute on the end....BLACK WAS BEAUTIFUL!!....Lets get it back!! Compton CA 136th & Wilmington Ave!!
Baby cant nobody sing like this woman,,,,Aretha is fabulous.....She rocked that melody as only Aretha can do.................listen at how she rides that groove........WoW!
God Bless the Queen of Soul! Aretha Franklin-1942 to 2018~Rest in Peace Sweet Queen! Forever will her Voice Shine. Long will her Music play on. Never will there be another. She always looked so Fine. Never will the memory of her be gone. Long Live the Queen, Long Live Aretha. God Bless her forever & She'll live On. Forever and beyond!
I agree! Something about powerful backing singers, they stand the test of time, and blow most of today's crap away. They have indeed more talent than anybody i have seen in past 20 years. Not just these girls, but Tina's, Stevie's trio's of course too..
Young ladies wishing to become a Diva one day... watch the master handle that title right here..... if you could master the belt she pulled at 1:22, we can have a conversation.
Aretha Franklin was one of my favorite artist in the 1970s, watching her is like making it turn the clock backwards & I just like I wanna put on my three layers boot & get to the dancing floor.
they could've sped the tempo up even more than they did, and she STILL would've kept time...in her prime, she was no damn joke, dude. And the measure of her greatness is that NO ONE, male or female, is recording remakes of songs like this one.
The CD player in my car broke. It wont eject the cd, and it's stuck repeating the same track over and over. The track is Aretha Franklin's "Rock Steady." I live in my car now.
What a way of meeting people and get to see their talent. At first was reluctant being on youtube, but getting to do this has brought me into the houses of some very special people. You are one of them. Life; isn't it wonderful!!! Keep up the good work. Have A Splendid Day!!!!
@TheNewsoul2 COME ON!!!!! YES!!! ROCK STEADY. Look at how aretha uses hand claps and church to bring the spirit. I love you! Listen to the band and how the live arrangement is slightly different from LP. the structure is there. however, it's faster, and the guitar player is taking more liberties. It takes a seasoned player to understand when and how this is done. MUSICIANS tend to want to stick to recordings. I thought we were CREATIVE! But we DO NOT destroy the composition.
She seems to be fond of Indian saris ,she has worn in 1970, 71 for Grammys as well and carries herself so well.Very graceful and stunning she looks!!! She has worn in 2011 or later too.She has worn salwar kameez as well. Anyways, praying for her ,glad that she loves the Lord so much. One of the Greatest singer of all times.
Background vocals by Clydie King, Venetta Fields and Patrice Holloway (not in the recording, the video)
