When Kazakhstan belonged to Russia, young Kazakhs were forced, by the Russian Empire, to leave their homes and fight many years until their total massacre. The story of one of these young people, who desperately marches into a war that is not his, besides the sadness of leaving his parents, elders, with no one to take care of and the certainty that he will never see the mountains (“tau”) of Kazakhstan again generated this wonderfully sad song! In addition to Dimash's talent, we have a wonderful ambience and two fantastic musicians: Olzhas Qurmanbeck - Master in playing Qobyz (Kobyz, who looks like a violin), the other who plays “rainstick”! A supernatural journey to the plains of Kazakhstan, through Music!

Please read it, gentlemen. Dimash was asked to be a guest, he could sing whatever he wanted. Have you heard the kobyz (a two-stringed instrument) playing the mooing of a cow, the barking of a dog, the chanting of cranes, the sounds of the village that a young man was leaving. The flute has a name starting with k, but I can't remember it. These were very difficult times for Kazakhstan. First, Russia occupied their territory and forced them to work for her. Then Russia it forced Kazakhs to fight on the front in the war. They were cannon fodder on the front line of fire and were assigned to the worst jobs.. They died en masse. There were no men to work in the fields and in breeding because the only people left were children, women and old peoplesuffered a great famine during which they died en masse. The number of Kazakhs dropped to 2 million. Then there was the USSR, which imposed its power on them, used their areas and natural deposits, and in a large area made it a testing ground for atomic bombs. Children indoctrinated from an early age Representatives of the intelligentsia were murdered under any pretext, because, as we know, it is the intelligentsia that influences the rest of the nation. Of course, attempts were made to eliminate the Kazakh language, so they are now learning their language all over again. Dimash and his family have always cultivated this language, Dimash proudly speaks Kazakh. His entire family has been recalling Kazakh games, traditions and ways of upbringing for years. This fate befell most people under the so-called patronage of the USSR. Kazakhstan currently has about 18 million people of various nations. Before and after the Second World War, the USSR resettled people from other countries there as a punishment, or when they wanted to seize wealth, any excuse was good. The Kazakh lands were suitable for resettlement because there was little population there, the climate was very harsh, before such people built a room to live in (at first it was a hole in the ground),., the resettled people often died of cold (-40 degrees Celsius in winter) and lack of food. Kazakhs are remembered very fondly because even though they suffered and had little, they helped. They have only been free for about thirty years, which is why Dimash supports his compatriots and emphasizes at every step that you should love and respect your country. He is a great patriot.

When I listen to Samaltau, my body trembles,
It hurts that my people suffered. Kazakhs have a clan, it is passed on from generation to generation, we know our seven generations. And we know from our grandfathers real stories, not rewritten stories. And the Kazakhs always sang events in songs. Once you find out who the Kazakhs are, you will understand what this song means to us.

BRAZIL - - Magnificent performance by Dimash... in reality the author of these lyrics is unknown, but the fact is true, Russia (CZAR) dominated some countries, including Kazakhstan, and forced thousands of men, young Kazakhs, to fight in the War (1916 ) by Russia, hence the story of this young man who says he doesn't know if he will return alive to his homeland, to his family (his parents) who will certainly die without his help. The violin-shaped musical instrument is a very old KOBYZ (QOBYZ) in the Kazakh tradition played by the musician OLZHAS QURMANBEK, and the SYBYZGY (THE FLUTE) by the musician SANJAY ALMISHEV...Dimash knows how to use and when his vocals for the best performance of the song, he will not always sing very high notes, an intelligent professional, with high talent.

It's not only people of Kazakhstan who are affected by this song, it's become a firm favourite of his worldwide fanbase.
You've actually seen very little of his prodigious repertoire, some fans will always push his "high octane" songs but Dimash always serves the song and does exactly what it requires, in interviews he frequently plays down his vocal range and says it's just a tool and he hopes people won't just focus on that.
We've been hoping for some years that he will release an album of his Kazakh songs which very rarely have any high notes at all in them.
I'd highly recommend you listen to Omir, the music video version gives an interesting view of his career so far as he gave thanks to his Dears and the part they have played in his career.

🌺 The first time (and many times afterward!) I heard this song (w/out knowing the lyrics), I SOBBED UNCONTROLLABLY. 😭😭😭💔💔💔. I felt the meaning so deeply-as if I was directly affected. I swear that I and many other Dears must have had past lives in Kazakhstan, as I am most attracted to DIMASH’s Kazakh language songs. I know at least SIX songs by heart in Kazakh; I’ve even had native Kazakh speakers compliment my Kazakh pronunciation. You don’t have to be a ‘native’ to identify with any song Dimash sings (in Kazakh or any other language); his emotional intelligence is so strong that you cannot help but be profoundly affected !! 🙏🏻❤️💕

If I understood the story correctly it is about a young man being forced from his home in Kazakhstan by the Soviets to go to war thus leaving his elderly parents behind and not knowing what is going to happen. Many of the Kazakh folk songs are taken directly from someone's history such as Daididau. It was written about a man who rebelled against the Soviet rule of Kazakhstan and was imprisoned. While in prison he was mistakenly told that his wife had left him. It is a letter to her. She had not left him and in the end the man was in fact executed. Daididau from Bastau is incredible. ruclips.net/video/Ra4v19Rp6cQ/видео.html

This was heart wrenching! I m 74 and it reminds me of songs that my grandparents and their parents would sing about the horrors of war in Ireland. They were starved out, families torn apart, placed in poor houses, and in early years taken as slaves. We as Americans don’t have many folk songs such as this (there may be some from Appalachia). Dimash is a humanitarian at his core. You can see it by the way he approaches people, and the way he presents his music. This song always tears at my heart.

    • @marthahazen4670
      @marthahazen4670 27 дней назад

Actually, we as Americans do have folk songs such as this beautiful song. They grew from the travails of our own history. I'm reminded of Black spirituals that coded aspects of slavery into musical Biblical stories. Also, folk songs from our Civil War as well as other wars come to mind. Even the Depression has its songs. American folk music has a rich history that unfortunately is not well known by everyone. I was lucky to attend an elementary school in the 1950s with a music teacher who covered a lot of them in her classes. She made an impression as all good teachers do. I even wrote a research paper with lots of references on the topic when I was in high school. Google it. You will enjoy them!

Samal Tau is a historical song. 1916... World War I...The Russian Tsar issues a decree on the draft of Kazakhs aged 19-39 years in the army. Samal Tau is the song of these recruits. The place where they came from was called "Samal Tau" in the North Kazakhstan region. The name of the author is not preserved in the memory of the people. The song contains the words: “We wander tired, very tired for 15 days, almost reached Omsk. Samal Tau, where I was born and raised, was left behind. Elderly parents stayed at home. How are they supposed to live without me? ". The song also has information about the age of the author. He is a little over two mushels old. He was born in the year of the cow, which means in 1888, so he is 28 years old.
This was recorded at his home studio since the Tokyo Jazz Festival was broadcast online due to the pandemic.
The two stringed instrument is called Kobyz/Qobyz. The kobyz has two strings made of horsehair. The resonating cavity is usually covered with goat leather.
Traditionally kobyzes were sacred instruments, owned by shamans and bakses (traditional spiritual medics). According to legends, the kobyz and its music could banish evil spirits, sickness and death.
    The flute is called Sybyzgy.
Sybyzgy is a Kazakh wind musical instrument. It is made of straw, wood and sometimes copper. The length is 600-650 mm or 700-800 mm; 3 - 4 holes. The sound range is diatonic, the volume is 2 1/2 octaves. Among the wind instruments, the flute is one of the most popular instruments for the people. It has become an integral part of folk music.
From ancient times the flute has been a favorite instrument among shepherds. They used it as a means of absorbing loneliness during grazing, and during the evening break, musicians used it to read old legends - songs.
Now when you listen to the song again, close your eyes, have in mind what the song is about. You can hear the heavy steps of the soldier, howling of a wolf, the cry of an eagle, the bad weather, raindrops falling on the soil, wind howling in the trees. You feel the heavy heart of the soldier who had to leave back his motherland and his elderly parents. You feel the exhaustion of his walk to war into an uncertain future.
The instrumentation is perfect and Dimash‘s voice is reflecting and telling the story perfectly too. Dimash doesn’t need big stage settings, dancers, light shows or vocal acrobatics to touch you. Just him sitting on a stool and the few instruments are enough. I love this song and especially this performance of it. It’s so reduced but the most impressive to me.

Thank you. The 2 stringed instrument is the ancient Kobyz. There is the rain stick and the side mouth flute is the Syzbyzgy. This is so mesmerizing and it tells the story of a young boy leaving his elderly parents to go to war. He is lamenting leaving his beautiful homeland and wonders if he will come back home from the war and how changed will he be. Great reaction. Love the intensity of your listening.

If I've understood correctly Salmantau is a mountain area in Kazakhstan where these soldiers were taken against their will to fight for Russia. In the beginning of the song you can hear the sounds of the mountain - the wind blowing, the wolfs from a far....
The song and the lyrics are inspired from a letter written by one of the young "soldiers" concerned about what awates him, and how his elderly parents will survive without him.... 💔💔💔

This song has deep meaning for me and is one of my top favorite Dimash songs. I also love noise makers like rattles, angklung, and rainsticks.
You are very new on the path of Dimash as he has over 150 performance videos, not all on his channel.
Dimash has plently of songs where he stays within the standard 2 Octaves. Fans usually introduce reactors to his showiest pieces in hopes that reactors will understand how amazing Dimash is. Even in his less acrobatic songs, there are subtle vocal techniques that can take your breath away if you know music and vocals.
Music videos started off more standard visually, like "Screaming" MV, but gradually grew into cinematic masterpieces as in his latest "When I've Got You".
We are eagerly awaiting his new MV for "Smoke" which could drop anytime.

Dimash is the best singer in the WORLD and there are no doubts about that, his voice is a prodigy of nature and a genetic marvel since his parents are two glories of singing from Kazakhstan since he was 5 years old, he sings publicly and has more than twenty years of lyrical training and graduated from the university of music, he is a singer, composer, arranger and multi instrumentalist, he plays more than seven musical instruments and sings in more than twelve(12) languages, he is also a great performer and a great artist who lives and feels music He is not an imitator of voices , Dimash has his own style and is one of the forerunners of the "POPera" he also has a very pleasant, HUMBLE and simple personality, easy access, which makes it very easy to follow, he always travels with His family and friends is a very educated person and an example to follow, he has become known for his musical talent not for getting into trouble or scandals, It has a very wide vocal range of approximately 7 octaves ,he is a singer with a wide vocal range very versatile is Baritone, TENOR , Soprano, counter TENOR, mezasoprano, everything at the same time is how to have 5 singers in one, it has a male and female voice, also many resources such as vibrato, "melismas", falsetto, Staccato, whistle tone, reaching a( D8 )live "Outside of Piano"at the concert of Gakku in an unforgettable day, at his young age he continues to improve and grow musically to perfection, he has a good physical presence he measures 191 cm or 6 "3", he is very famous and recognized in Asia and now he is becoming known In Europe and America, ALL their songs are spectacular, it always goes from low to high, soft to spectacular at the end, in my almost half a century of life I never heard so much quality and it is the hope of continuity of the classical genre because all the old tenors have already Almost all of them died and Dimash can sing like them but none of them can sing like Dimash, being a Man he sings better than any Tenor and his female voice is superior to that of any average Soprano, greetings and a hug from USA 🇺🇸 "Dears" Forever ❤️ Sorry for copying and pasting my informative comment in ALL the Video reactions to Dimash what I see but I do it with the intention of sharing information about him and what I think that in the music industry there are many artists who have been successful and have no talent and are bad people and they do not set a good example for the youth, Dimash and his music deserve to triumph in America, Europe and the whole WORLD, do you want to have already read my comment please come by without problem there is always someone who for the first time knows this information and I won't get tired of sharing it with all my friends"Dear" around the world, thanks for reading and for supporting Dimash 🙏🏻S.O.S. Dimash is singing always what the song needs. He feels it that way. But when a singer has such a wide range at his disposal, he naturally uses it.

The title is Toyko Jazz PLUS. It does not have to be jazzy.
These are the sounds the man hears while walking
towards Omsk, to join the army. They represent wolves, dogs, eagles.
Yes, it's a Qazaq native folk song so yes it is a story and they mean a lot to him, he is very patriotic and proud of his country and culture. The past for Qazaqstan was not good, always being under the control of others, until 1991 when they finally got their freedom from Russia
You should listen to more of his Qazaq songs, they are great. Try Quaran Elim MV, Amanat and Durduraz (it's
    more like R&R)
All of his M V's are extremely well-done.
You would like the Golden MV and The Story of One Sky, a real masterpiece, BUT, DONT watch it yet, it is hard to take.
Wait until you have seen many more performances (say 20 or so) to appreciate what this very talented young man can do.

You guys were talking about posture before the video....Dimash can belt completely bent over, sitting on the floor with his legs crossed. 😄
He knows a lot about war and the pain inflicted on his people. Kazakhastan has only been free from the Soviet Union since 1991.
You'll see his last name spelled with a K or a Q. Kazakhastan has changed their alphabet to latin so the official spelling is now the Q.
You will see "kudaibergenov" in older videos. The "ov" suffix often denotes "son of" or "descendant of" a specific male ancestor. Kudaibergenov in Russian means "son of Kudaibergen".

Thank you for reacting to this specific performance. It’s my favorite. He’s so focused in this song. Beautiful but sad.
The instrument you mentioned is called Qobyz.
The Qobyz is a very old two stringed Kazakh folk instrument and it’s spread among Kazakhs. The man who is playing the Qobyz in Dimash’s performance is the best on this instrument and a very good friend of Dimash. His name is Olzhas Qurmanbek. You often can hear this instrument when Dimash sings in his native tongue like Samaltau, Qairan Elim or ÒmirÒter and at the stage performance in Stranger.
The flute is called Sygyzgy and is mainly played in the Kyrgyz and Kazakh regions. According to Wikepedia it is traditionally played by shepherd horse herders. A wonderful sound.
Samaltau is about a young Kazakh who was forcibly recruited by Russia in 1916. He was forced to leave his home country and his elderly parents to go to war (WWI) and does not know what awaits him there as a soldier or how his elderly parents are to manage without him. He was forced into a war that is not his. The best version in my opinion is from the Tokyo Jazz Festival. It’s pure emotion.
    Samaltau Tokyo Jazz Festival: ruclips.net/video/UvMRkiYu3Js/видео.html
Normally there are no vocal acrobatics in his native songs and I love them a lot. In every of this songs you can hear the great love and devotion to his country and his people.
You also really have to hear another beautiful song in Kazakh.
Qairan Elim means Holy Land and is a prayer and an expression of fear about the fate of Dimash's country and the world in general. The MV is fantastic and he even directed it. The man, Renat Gaissin (a Kazakh composer) on the piano is also a friend of his and he has also written songs for Dimash such as River Of Love, an instrumental in which Dimash plays the dombra, and the song Òmir Òter (Ode to Life). This MV was presented of the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s independence. Also a must see but switch on the subtitles. A masterpiece. Goosebumps!
    Qairan Elim: ruclips.net/video/K45qdRAIWaM/видео.html
    Òmir Òter: ruclips.net/video/8VrEFpu4S8A/видео.html
    Òmir Òter 2021: ruclips.net/video/6Zg9jKRNCF8/видео.html
And an absolutely mind blowing bonus, if you think the Qobyz sounds is so incredibly beautiful and unique then there is a viyRUclips showing rehearsals for his Almaty concert in September 2022 on Qairan Elim. Olzhas Qurmanbek, who always plays the Qobyz in his songs, wasn‘t there or not yet there. Than Dimash sang the sounds of the Qobyz. It took me a a while to realize that this isn’t an instrument at all, it's Dimash‘s voice. At first I couldn’t believe it, but then I thought, Ok , it’s Dimash😄.

THANKS for your reactions to Dimash!!!!….. Samale Mountain is a sad song about a young soldier. He sing about what will happen with his family when He goes away about Mountain and Sea. This a tresure song of kazakhstan and Dimash sing this like no one. The musical instrument is from Kazajistán and name KOBIZ of two strings, Using folk arrangements like “SYBYZGI”, beautiful Kazakh wind instrument. This live performance with his instrumentalists friends is a firm favourite of mine. His live singing is impeccable like always, even sitting cross legged on a piano stool. Streamed from his home, his music room it wen down a storm at his first appearance at the Tokio Jazz Festival although he was disappointed when it was canceled he was overjoyed when they decided to livestream it. Greetings from a Mexican Dear!......❤️🇲🇽
