If your pins are retracting fully and you cannot slide your tandems; notice if your tires are 'skidding' or 'rolling'. If the tires are skidding, using chocks is your best bet. However, if the tires are 'rolling' when you are pulling on the trailer, there is a trick (air-ride trailer, with air valve pin release). What you do is release the trailer air as normal, then go back to the trailer and pull the 'pin release' button as normal. At this point, when the valve is pulled out, it creates a small gap between the actual button, and the collar behind it. This gap is big enough to put a pair of small vice-grips behind the 'button' on the shaft. (Attach the vice-grips between the 'button' and the back of the small assembly, this prevents the button from re-engaging when you re-supply air to the trailer in the next step) When clamping the vice-grips on the 'shaft' only use enough pressure to just keep the vice-grips 'hanging on' , so a very, very light clamp pressure. Then, get back into your cab and resupply air to the trailer. At this point you use the MANUAL (or hand) trailer-brake-lever in the cab of the truck to fully engage the trailer brakes. While keeping the trailer brakes fully engaged with the 'hand-lever' you can now slide the trailer without the tires rolling (unless the trailer brakes are completely out of adjustment). After sliding the tandems to desired location, release the hand brake, and release the air to the trailer. Remember to remove the vice-grips, and then operate as usual. The first time I was told to do this, I thought the guy was full of crap. However, the company I was working for had many trailers that kept having this issue, so I tried it, and it works. In fact, from that point on, I must have had to do it another dozen times, and it worked every time. Good luck, be safe.
Always spray down the rail with Wd40 at least once a month if the pins don't go in they might be in a bind try sliding the other way then go the other way
