With the prepackaged moon cakes, I always microwave them for 10 or 20 seconds with a wet paper towel on top. Then I remove the paper towel and let the cake sit for a bit to cool. They're just better that way.
Lisa if you can find them you should give the snowskin mooncakes a try. The skin is almost mochi like and usually have interesting flavours. Plus those are fine cold

When I was little I had the honour to go visit their house to see the huge oven and huge trays lined with moon cake doughs and huge bowls of different fillings. I have to say the ones with a whole egg yolk in them tastes amazing! ☺️

It is depend on the one who make the mooncake. Some makers make the filling very dry, some very soft. But usually, you eat it while drinking tea.

The double yolks are usually gifted and very expensive. I like the plain lotus seed paste ones. Not a fan of the trail mix ones either
