I played this in my car. It turned into a viking longboat and now I'm sailing along the coast looking for a village to raid.
I almost feel sorry for the next McDonald's you see. Or gas station.
I don't be the one to tell you this... but you died in a car accident. You're in Valhalla.
iLol!
PICK ME UP
BolasDaGrk that’s beautiful
French people making high quality viking music. Who'd have thought.
We have in France another magical singer Luc Arbogast.
He was on the voice and makes beautiful videos. Greetings from 🇫🇷🇫🇷
Must be the Normans
@@doublxhelix5014 Was also thinking that...the Vikings were actually ceded the lands of Normandie - on the condition that they would stop raiding that area and also protect against other Vikings, who by then they were starting to get dangerously and ever closing to Paris itself.
So, ever since then Normandie have had strong presens of Vikings, or Norsemen as they were called in England (which thus since has been known as Normandie - which I at least believe means somtehing like 'land of the Norsemen').
I also see that some of the instruments that they are playing are very old Nordic instruments, especially one of them that in Swedish is called 'nyckelharpa', but also the type of violin they're using is typically used when playing old, Nordic 'folk-songs'.
Although I can't understand the language, at all...and doesn't seem to be French ether. So perhaps it is some kind of old dialect, or even language that developed in Normandie???
Would be interesting to know though!
@@MrZenGuitarist They sing in old norwegian
@@stefanSS1480 Aha...as in 'bokmål', or perhaps older still? (Don't know too much about the evolution of Norwegian...Sorry, but I am after all just a 'dum svensk'! ;-)
In Norse mythology, Gleipnir was the third chain used to tie up Fenrir, the wolf.[1] Fenrir was the son of Loki and Angrboða, the giantess.[2] The first two chains, named Lædingr and Dromi, were forged by Thor and did not hold him.[1] Gleipnir was created by the sons of Ivaldi and did hold Fenrir.[1] It was as thin as spider's silk.[3] Gleipnir was made from six things:[4]
The stomping of cats
The beards of women
The roots of mountains
The spit of bird.
The breath of fishes
The Sinew (nerves, as in nervousness) of a bear.
Sinews aren't nerves. Nerves are nerves. Sinew is tissue that keeps muscles attached to bones.
Oh and that's why that stuff doesn't exist. I get it.
@@eddthehead123 Is it a form of connective (conjunctive?) tissue?
my family has a loud cat, an air breathing fish, and a woman with a beard. Therefore my family can make half of gleipnir.
@@kassiekitsune189 Your family is very weird then. Do you have a giant wolf with a sword through the mouth? (Actually, for your own safety, I hope not...)
If you think about it, Gleipnir was a mental chain. The first two, Lædingr and Dromi, were physical. The very first one was a common one, made only of metal, which he easily broke. The second was even more easily broken, one could argue it was a magical chain. But Gleipnir was made out of things that do not "exist". And with those things combined, the wolf couldn't break the chain because it was in its mind.
Or at least, Fenrir was convinced the materials did not exist.
The flow is so... intense! It`s like a trance, you just can`t stop listening to it.
There is a song I was trying to paint a scene I'm writing in my head and this is it.
TRUUU
same! its very "northmen chant around a fire"
*_O K A F_*
It’s got a very…primal feel to it, at least for me.
I don’t understand the language, but I love how this song sounds, and I kind of feel it deep inside me, weird as that may seem.
Also, I now want to start digging into Norse Mythology and learn as much as I can about that.
This song came on while I was waking my dog. Now he is Fenrir and I've had to forge chains from six impossible materials to contain him until Ragnarok.

I am upper intermediate level in Norse & Icelandic, and I must say, the translation is okay overall, but is not 100% accurate! Here’s the accurate and literal translation...
Of din of the cat, (din is another word for noise / kattarins = the cat’s)
and of beard of the woman, (skegg = beard / skeggi = the dative form)
and of roots of the rock, (bjarg / berg = rock or boulder)
and of sinew of the bear, (bjarnarins = of the bear / bjǫrn = bear)
and of breath of the fish, (fisks = of fish or fish’s / fisksins = of the fish)
and of bird’s spittle, (fogls = of bird / bird’s)
which Gleipnir is called... (at heita = to be called)
Willed no-one one’s hand forward ‘sell’ sooner, (to give up his hand)
but Tyr let forward hand his right... (but Tyr put forward his right hand)
He howls badly (illi-liga literally means ill-like or ill-ly)
and slaver runs outta mouth his... (slaver is another word for slobber or drool)
It is river that which Ván is called... (it is that river which is called Ván)
There lies he til Ragnarok!
Some words cannot be translated correctly into English because they don’t have the literal translation, but sína hönd literally means su mano in Spanish, cause Spanish has those possessive pronouns that start with S which are cognates with the Norse and Icelandic pronouns sína / sín / sínum etc, whereas the English pronoun his literally means hans in Norse and Icelandic, but in Norse and Icelandic there are two words that mean his and the one that starts with S (sína) is used when talking about one’s own hand etc, and hans is used when talking about some dude’s hand in general!
The verb at selja in Norse means to sell and it also means to hand over, so in this context it has a meaning that is more like, no one wanted to put his hand forward or to give up his hand, and fyrr means sooner / before / rather, but there might even be a phrasal verb at selja fyrr, but I am not 100% sure, but from the context, I would translate that as no one wanted to put his hand forward, as in, giving it up, but Tyr did and lost his right hand in the Norse story!
Also, the verb at heita doesn’t have a cognate in Modern English, but it has a cognate in Norwegian / Swedish / Danish / Icelandic / Faroese and also in Dutch and German and in the Frisian languages etc, and it means to be called a certain name - for example, å hete in Norwegian and heten in Dutch and heißen in German, so, han heter Dave = he is called Dave!
wow, that's incredible! thanks a lot. I'm still a beginner when it comes to norse and old norse, so I really appreciate your insight, how did learn norse?@@FrozenMermaid666

Ingredients for the strongest rope of all that can't be procured by any mere human, used to bind Fenrir who bit off the hand of Tyr, the Norse god of war and justice.
@@dalvokdesudden7368 no, Tyr Is the god of war, he's just a peaceful god of war and he wants to unite not destroy.
I know because I worship the Norse gods and know them so much, studied Everything there is about them. And personally knowing them as my gods
We don't know if Ragnarok has happened or is yet to happen. The person who is claiming Tyr is not a god of justice has a poor understanding of how the Norse viewed their gods. Tyr is associated with things like peace, justice, war, and the sky, but so is Odin. We've been conditioned to think gods must be the god "of" something and in the old Norse mind that is not the case.
I am he who bit the hand

Hearing this, it's hard to imagine these folks are actually French.
Well vikings settled in Normandy (Norman = Northman). So wouldn't surprise me if they all had viking blood
Vikings (medieval) are not a tribe only in Skandinavia . .. It was a lifestyle by germanic tribes near the ocean.. Like frisians(ger-nl) , saxones (ger) anglo(ger) danes, jutes, teutones.. Or some slavic.. Was viking tribes. But they are same as germanic people as The tribes more down south to france or germany like Cherusker or sueben. Franks.. Etc
The Normans comes from norrthman are actually vikings
@@nilsscholz4474 You are wrong. The term “Viking” predates the Viking Age, and it was a term that the Scandinavians used to describe themselves and ONLY themselves; we know that from old texts and from runestones. Therefore could non-Scandinavians never call themselves Vikings which would be just as wrong as if Greeks called themselves Romans (perhaps except from those Frisians and Saxons that fled to Denmark and some non-Scandinavian people that had intermarriage with the Vikings). Non-Scandinavians mostly used the terms Norse, Norsemen, Normanni, Ascomanni (those that used the term “Ascomanni” did it in reference to the religion). The term “Viking” was not used very often by non-Scandinavians to describe Scandinavians, but when the term was used it was always in reference to the Scandinavians. Norse, Norsemen, Normanni translates to “men from the North” as you probably know.
@@user-mq5xt5jf4o what did you have smoked? Of course the anglo saxons, frisians, teutones etc. Were vikings to. In one time period the saxones lived in today jütland(denmark to north germany till hamburg) Cuz they where living next to danes and jutes, had the same dragon ships and culture, gods etc. CUZ THESE WHERE GERMANIC /Viking tribes just moved more south or driven out by danes. Thats it. How do you even compare romams and greeks?even Greeks and romans have different ancestors and have nothing to do with the germany family which SPLIT up in different tribes. From norway to the south of germany and netherlands. Even the term viking age ist just a arbitrary term of a timelime by a danish archeolgist which refers to events in and before the middle ages. The word viking in germany is wikingr, exactly the same like in old norse means raiding, moving or moving with all your chattel. It is more like a occupation and nothing that belongs only to today Skandinavian tribes. Did you watched to much hbo vikings or english "historians"? . The reason the skandis call themselfs vikings is cuz christianity does not occupy their pagan culture till the middle ages, where germany for example already lost everything pagan cuz of charlemagne and the frankish crusades way before. Thats why they identify themselfs as vikings also cuz they History as pagan raiders and merchants last longer and never lost meanings in schools. . But also in germany and netherlands much people rightly identify themselfs as vikings cuz of the frisians, teutones and anglso saxons whicj based in todays denmark and later in nortj germany which geographical is south Skandinavia!! . Which were germanic tribes. people like danes or norwegians were mostly seafarers/vikings same as the tribes south. Even The biggest south viking trade city based in germany (slesvig, haithabu) and when the anglo and saxons decide to colonise britian they where vikings in that intend.

this music makes me wanna learn the language, even letters look dope
Learning the runic alphabet (futhark) ought to be very easy. It’s an alphabet in the exact same way the Latin alphabet it. I haven’t bothered, though.
Your best bet for old Norse would probably be modern Icelandic, as the two share many sounds and letters.

So I can't find an English translation here in the comments; please correct my guess below. I don't know Old Norse and I can't find a translation online, but I do know that Fenrir the Wolf was bound with a magic chain (Gleipnir).
In the Edda there's a bit about how the chain is made out of six things, which I looked around for and evidently are:
the noise a cat makes in foot-fall,
the beard of a woman,
the roots of a rock,
the sinews of a bear,
the breath of a fish,
and the spit of a bird
Which I am guessing from my extremely crappy knowledge of Norwegian (somewhat related to Icelandic and Old Norse) is what is the translation of:
Af dyn kattarins
Ok af skeggi konunnar
Ok af rótum bjargsins
Ok af sinum bjarnarins
Ok af anda fisksins
Ok af fogls hráka
And if Old Norse is like Norwegian, then "Eg Gleipnir Heitir" probably means "I'm called Gleipnir" or "My name is Gleipnir" or something like that.
Vildi engi sína hönd fram selja fyrr
En týr lét fram hönd sína hœgri
Is from Gylfaginning in the Edda and it is the part saying:
"No one would volunteer his hand [to put into Fenrir's mouth]
and Tyr [a god] put in his right hand [into Fenrir's mouth to show good faith]"
Hann grenjar illiliga
Ok slefa renn ór munni hans
Þat er á sú er ván heitir
Þar liggr hann, til Ragnarökrs!!!

I'm still believing that Fenrir's fate is somehow can be seen as a fate forced by "Parents and Family". Many people (including me in my teenager years back in the day) are forced by a toxic family to do as their bidding, and if you stop doing it, if you start showing the potential to stand on your own, suddenly you become a threat that must be "chained". Looking at things like this, this song gave me so much power many Times, all the anger pointed to breaking that mental chain, and to break free, and to start a life on my own!
Wishing everyone great succes and a fun journey here in Midgard! 🤘🏼

Through evolution mankind came through fish, and now we have breath.
Dinosaurs lost their spittle when they became birds, but through reverse engineering and the modern scientific method we are looking to bring back dinosaurs, and thus, take away a third material of his chain.
All that remains are the rocks' roots, the cat's footfalls, and bears becoming frightened.
The chain is half of what it was when it was forged.

Damn, I had to have some ancestors from Scandinavia and whose gene I might have in me, because it's unbelievable how much I like this music and gives me confidence. I am from Czech Republic. ;-)
with every generation our number of ancestors doubles, so if you go back far enough everyone in the world shares ancestors. I'm certain some of your ancestors were norse, just as most people of the world today are. And even if somehow they are not, it matters more that our spirits are connected than our ancestry.

Великолепно!!!
Thankyou 👏❤👏❤
Love this music
I was cooking while this played. My knife turned into a sword.
I accidentally found Skáld while trying to download 'Gleipnir from Skálmöld'
I'm not complaining this is awesome
Que buena canción!
Skald is so primal!
