Retired Chemist, owner of a small HM130 band mill from Woodland Mills. Hobby machine but very handy. I have always had a love of woodworking and construction since high school. I also worked in a sawmill for couple of months running a power fed rip saw. One of the worst jobs I ever had, dangerous too. I very much enjoy your sharing of knowledge and equipment setup.
Enjoyed the conversation while you were sawing. It is more enjoyable understanding what & how you are planning the cuts as you are making them! Love the whole mill setup that you have!
Love this video. You have a target product in mind, but recognize what the logs will give you, yielding 4 or 5 other merchantable cuts at the same time. Too many mills on RUclips would have created 2 products. 2×4's and waste. Sweet.
I appreciate that sir:) I also add I’m aware I edged some a little heavy🤷 But I think you guys understand the point of the video. We needed 2x4’s, old logs like that are perfect. Plus I can never saw enough battons
Excellent 2 x 4's, well done. I framed a few houses in the early 1970's. In 1973, we started using 2 x 6's on the exterior walls for insulation values and I'd do that today if I was framing now. No styrofoam for me,
Production at its finest, always think three steps ahead and never second guess yourself. You were sawing like a man on a mission lol that was awesome to watch. Hats off to the stackers, those edging strips have to be aggravating. Great job to you all.
Always loved that pretty yellow/green poplar. Especially when it came time to pull out the axe for splitting firewood. Beats the heck out of a pile of gnarly red oak! hahahaha
Thank you! I know I was wasting some. But I was trying to get as many 2x4’s as I could. Anything else was a little extra. Those were old logs we needed to saw and get rid of🤷
Yes sir young man I am totally enjoying your videos. You have an amazing mill. Are you the owner, the Sawyer or are you both. I can’t speak for everyone, but we do enjoy your play by play. Conversation letting us know what cuts you’re about to make and why. I shall continue to watch and have become your newest subscriber. Take care and God bless.✌️🇨🇦

We’ve got a lot of 2x4’s and 6’s in barns and homes!
The plural of 2x4 is 2x4s. The plural of 1970 is 1970s. 😉

We all appreciate that! Thank you Jeff. I was wanting to get those 2x4’s but fine a balance of not wasting too much!
Sam and Andy, you are poetry in motion. ❤❤

I’m the sawyer and the owner’s son!
Just wondering how often do you do maintenance on your equipment ie cleaning off saw dust .
rightoeous!!!!
Mantap
What species are you sawing?
👊🏼👍🏼🤙🏼
Poplar
Are they true 2×4 or the industry standards? Since you are custom cutting
They are true 2x4’s!
@@Helmsburgsawmilljust like you told us in the introduction!
Those off bearers sure earn their pay. All that grabbing and sorting and stickers too. What will the 4x10 timbers be used for. Resawing ?
The plural of 2x4 is 2x4s. The plural of 100 is 100s, NOT 100’s. 😉
Did not notice until you pointed it out. Out of curiosity, what line of work are you in?

Too many obstructions in the way ! Spoils the video
Why do you need two guy's working your green chain?
The shack view of sawing is the worst.....go back to that side view thru the posts is the best..
