- On November 19th, 2017, the new R179 subway cars entered service on the J line. The 6:55am scheduled trip from Jamaica Center to Hewes Street was the first revenue service trip to be provided by R179 equipment. Fellow RUclipsr and friend Tech and Transit ( / rjacknyc ) had the honor of being the first revenue passenger aboard the R179.
This operation is part of the "30-day test", in which the train must operate in passenger service without a major failure for 30 days in order to pass.

The R211a is already in service.🎉🎉
Thankfully this is the last R143 clone... The R211s look totally different.
The R211 is a clone of the New Tube for London (which is just a concept) and 81-765/766/767 «Moscow» train cars and this doesn't make it any better
It seems like all the new cars coming into the system now all look alike , the R143s, R160s , the R179s , the R211 will seem to follow suit and you cant tell much of the difference except for listening.

It's about time! It's seems like almost forever when they started running around these trains on their tests! I didn't know that they were going to operate today until I watch your video tonight. You shot this in the area not far where I live. Can't wait to ride them tomorrow God's willing. I thought that r179s going to be in the A, C line and the D, G maybe I didn't think that they going to have it on the J line. It's beautiful train it's too too bad that at least keep them spotless clean as the rest of the others before looking so dirty.

The switching frequency sounds much higher than the older version R179. Like a variable frequency drive, this can be adjusted to give longevity to the motors.
Great video DJ Hammers. I am so glad to see the R179 finally in service afrer many months of testing. I hope the first day of revenue service for the R179 went well. Great capture at 2:35 with the LIRR M7 in the background.
I remember my first time on the new trains. You wouldn’t fall over like the older models do when they start to move.
It was a good long run for the R42's running on the (J) & (Z) lines, I would say the (M) but it was only using them for the shuttle at the time so yeah but what a hell of a run.

The hype is real, I have waited longer for the operation of a delayed new technology train than our house's repairment which was destroyed by sandy. Both of which costed a ton (only one of which I was happy throughout). I really wish I could've seen one of these but I may not for a while since I live in the rockaways and the A wont get them for a month at least.
That being said, I can't wait to see these on the (A) and the (C), as well as the (J) despite the removal of R42's. I really want to see it on the (A) however since almost every other line runs a new tech train or something not from the 70's and old R46's go from desolate Far Rockaway to the tip top of Inwood, every single day, is odd. For the longest line in the system, that connects all subway lines excluding the Frank Ave. (S) and also connecting dozens of bus lines as well, newer trains to me just make more sense.
Ok so what's the big difference? They look the same they just don't sound the same when they start up

Kal-El Ikr like even before this all happened today, I was feeling that the R179s were gonna not make it into passenger service & if they did they could end up failing this 30-Day Test.
The r110b was a prototype train so it wasn’t intended to last long. This isn’t a prototype so it’ll last a while
Im a train Fanatic It sort of feels like a 160 but way better bc the ride is much smother & the fresh clean smell is what makes it better for now at least.
Im a train Fanatic True same with the R143s back in 2006 & 2007, I remember them feeling very smooth when riding them, & damn the smell already disappeared then that just shows East New York already doesn't take good care of the R179 already.
@Loser the r143? It does have cbtc, but there's a huge difference, first, the logo is on the top of the flag then under plus inside it gives more of a warmer feeling, while r160 and r160 have a cooler feeling, third, it has orange strips under the plate numbers so you know it's an r143.

Propulsion is different from other Bombardier MITRAC trains the R142A,R188 & R143 due to them making a steeped siren like sound when accelerating from a station but the R179 propulsion sounds like CTA 5000 series and Transport for London S stock & 2009 stock when leaving a station like Jamaica Center or 42nd Street Port Authority bus terminal on the A & C trains. The MTA should get the 10 car train version a revenue 30 day test on the A train from 207th street Inwood Upper West Side to Far Rockaway Queens or Rockaway Park during rush hours

My dad used to take the J train to work from Queens Blvd station (138th St) to the Bowery and it was elevated. 2:50 my old school on right side PS 82 😢.
Good thing R42's are back on the M line.
Hopefully those traction motors are not that loud as I hear them on here

@VINCENT CHENG it's because the r32s are always on, you cant turn the trains off, except for lights and engines of course, so they put it as (X) or more fictional letters like (T) or (Y) when it's out of service or not in service.
@@TBF_1J Very strange. You can always turn a train off in Moscow Metro. Just as it should be. Have you played Garry's Mod Metrostroi? Or maybe you don't really know when the train can be considered to be on.
Hope the train didn’t have any slobbers or residues left from the foamers inside LOL. The part from 2:34-2:45 should be declared a bonus, since you don’t see the R179s racing with the LIRR M7 train that much everyday, although it just recently went into revenue service.

WHERE DID THE X TRAIN COME FROM
These are Bombardier-made trains with their MITRAC propulsion systems, right? They kind of sound similar (but different) to the C951 trains on the Downtown Line MRT we have here in Singapore; the R179s sound kind of lower-pitched.
Are these using PMSM technology? Wikipedia simply states their propulsion model as Bombardier's MITRAC IGBT-VVVF, with no mention of PMSM technology. Our C951s are stated on Wikipedia as using Bombardier's DR1200 PMSM propulsion systems.

Apparently the set got pulled from service within a few hours due to random emergency brake applications.

Wow I have to admit the trains do look pretty nice but now it's a shame that the last remaining R32s and 42s on the J and Z line are gonna go because of them man I'm gonna miss but atleast I gotta a chance to ride them during the summer time during my rail fan trips but going downtown from myrtle avenue Broadway to Essex street so I guess it's back to riding the R160s once again along with R179s.

reshirm: It doesn't spin in person. I was told, that it had to do with the camera speed, like back in the days when you saw that scrolling line along a computer screen. Not that the resolution is higher I guess they get the whole circle.

About time folks. However, I kinda pictured the first revenue service run for the R179s on the "A". But from the comments I've seen so far, the "A" will soon get them.

If you look at the top of the lead cars on the R179 it's got a silver outline instead of all black. They sound different too and I notice the third rail pick up is red and bulkier than the R160s.

Are these the same cars that are used on the 5 and 2 line in the bronx? The sound is different than any other cars MTA has as far as I know.
