"I say her skinny legs could use sun...." I was 15 when BFP came out, and over half my life later, Tori is still my go-to when I want to feel, as opposed to denying my feelings. Our society teaches us to bury the pain, gloss over it, and Tori deals with emotion head-on. Not always easy or convenient, but very real......
and now I literally have no idea how I've been singing that lyric for that last 18 or so years. It completely left me once I heard how it was really sung
If you are a musician and sit down and reconstruct these songs it becomes apparent how subtle and well built they are . She's at the top like Kate Bush ,Joan Armatrading Joni et. al .
John e martin III I miss seeing this unadulterated passion in her performances. She is still amazing - no one can take that. She just used to have a pilot lite that was always on and it was larger than life--in my opinion has faded.... ‘maybe just where she is in her life.... maybe where I am? Regardless I still adore her I just really enjoy her live videos from around 2001-2006/7
I just want to say that I've watched this video about 1,000 times since I first discovered it a few years ago. Everything about it is so powerful. Tori is 150% inside of every moment of this, and it is the most beautiful performance I've ever seen...of any performer.
This song moves me. She's so eloquent with words. She is the bandaid for wounded souls. We are not alone, we have a voice to the pain felt. Beautiful defeat, personified.
jeezuz it's really hard to watch these live/taping videos. she is so intensely 'inside' the song... i feel like this is a part of the process us mere mortals aren't supposed to witness. it's incredible to watch. the more of these sorts of performances of hers that i see, the more convinced i am that she's not of our realm and we only watch from across a deep, profound chasm. there's something deeply profound about her and her passion for her music.
What a sublime artist. Her songs and performances are a sacred experience for me. I just saw Tori on 15th May 2014 in the Royal Albert Hall in London and it was one of the most profound experiences of my life.
+Michael Walton : I truly envy you, Michael. I have had the chance to see Tori three times, each time in Montreal. However, to have seen her in the legendary Albert Hall must have truly have been spiritual.
I got to see Tori 5 times in Utah. My sister first introduced me to her, and years later, I am the fan she helped create! The last time I saw Tori, a guy came down the stairs (abravanel hall) and asked me if I wanted to see Tori first row. I was alone, and of course said yes! I sat in the front row and enjoyed every moment even though I wasn't your typical Tori fan - I applauded Matt Chamberlain - and didn't "groove" as much as the front row spectators. But believe me, I enjoyed it soooo much. Seeing Tori that close was an awesome experience and I'll never forget it. Thank you Ahmed for giving me that experience and I wish I would've come to Denver with you :)
the more i listen to this album (since 1999), the more i believe this song is the pinnacle of this album. Tori is at her peak, this performance is top notch, and sung with utmost sincerity. I just think it says a lot about a person that can name the person she just broke up with as "just so pretty." I wish I had her perspective and her place of mind. It's beautiful to witness her in her prime and see the woman she was then compared to who I am in same time frame
C Cor I totally agree! I talked with a friend recently about this album and he couldn't believe Putting the Damage on was my favorite... it is definitely one of her most underrated songs. It's like she's on another artistic register with this whole album, but this song in particular.
agree completely. heard the album recently and forgot how much this song moved me. not one the most catching of that album but over time think its become my favourite too. that's the beauty of Tori I guess
not enough words to say how amazing this woman is there will never be another TORI I dare anyone to try to upstage her it cant be done she is the QUEEN BEE!!!
I had the privilege of meeting her twice. She's been amazing all her life but amazing to me since little earthquakes. She did her version of Angie for me in Charlotte in 1995. I will treasure that forever
Oh how I miss her. We became friends years ago in NYC (I met a ton of celebs and she was the only one I cared about) and I would ask to see hear this when I got to request a song - I'd smuggle Barolo in to her at concerts through her hair stylist... sigh take me back to those days. When something (like wine) was incredible she'd say it was "heaven." ❤️
Don't make me scratch on your door I never left you for a banjo I only just turned around For a poodle and a corvette These have always been my favorite lines of the song,....how brilliant
My family and I are going through some really rough stuff right now and this song describes perfectly about how I feel towards the people that are trying to make our lives a living hell. They smile their pretty smiles and in general look like good people while on the side they are "putting the damage on" in relation to my children. I am hurt, I am suffering, but this song consoles me and gives me hope.Thank you Tori. I have loved your music since the age of 15. First day I learned about you I was babysitting and my neighbor had cable,so I watched some MTV..your Spark video came on and I haven't stopped loving your music since then.
God... when she looks into the camera at the end I get these deep chills every time. It’s like she looks right at me... right into my soul I just love her so much.
She was/is amazing as always. It's like having sex, going to the museum, and eating fine chocolate all at the same time... It's somehow expressively artistic, raw and divine all wrapped up into one perfectly performed moment in time. I love SO much of Tori's music, but this one has become my current favorite in just the past few months. 'I'm trying not to move...it's just your ghost passing through' ;-} Thank you, Hereinmyhead102and of course, Tori
@ Michael Walton- what an incredible complement. I am so grateful myself that her music has been a part of my life. It's hard to overstate how very special she is. I honestly can't imagine the last 20 years without her.
No other musician has moved me as much as Tori. She fits into no specific “genre” which makes her timeless. She never followed rules that most musicians tend to follow to sell their music. The only musician that comes remotely close to me is Imogen Heap. Very different styles, both tend to be an acquired taste, but if you can see the genius, it fast becomes clear that these artists are both way ahead of their time, possessing genius that surpasses conventional rules and never get stale. Brilliant stuff. Love ya, Tori. :)
absolutely one of my faves too. she is amazing and so talented...and such a healing source. she always makes it easy to confront those emotional things that we sometimes stuff way down.
@sermossman I think this one might have alot to do with the end of a relationship with a certain NIN singer..."ticket to your late show..." and "don't make me scratch at your door" (especially that one if certain rumours are to be believed). But, it's Tori, and only she knows :)
Starting to cheats tri consciousness, and I can’t even watch a Tori Amos playlist without Mohammed and Moses and Bethlehem, staring at me and my face because spirit does not want me to give up. Meditate my friend. Meditate and thank you Tori and thank you Maynard! PS Tori-sing my new Jesus loves me version with me. Yeshua loves me. We are I AM. 👁️❤️🔥🔥
I believe tory has a split personality or just on a completely higher plane or both !!! The fact that she sings about angie Dickinson and puts in a cheeky impersonation!! Absolute genius and off the charts .. Wow
"There's a light in your platoon...I have never seen a light move like yours can do to me..." I am in tears. Thank you Tori for sharing with us.
you can tell she believes in the words she's singing, even if she's the only one who knows what they mean.
This is about abuse, rape like all of her songs
Brian, you’re right. You say you’ve packed my things and divided what was mine…
hence, every artist
No one can sing like this.. so methodical and her playing is amazing
This really is the best version of this song. Better than on BFP.
Damn true ❤
"I say her skinny legs could use sun...." I was 15 when BFP came out, and over half my life later, Tori is still my go-to when I want to feel, as opposed to denying my feelings. i agree totally. Bjork also has this quality for me.
Yes, Speranza! So TRUE.
@@hunky-doris Doris, yes yeeeeez! Thank You!!!! Someone said it perfectly!
"I'M TRYING NOT TO MOVE, IT'S JUST YOUR GHOST PASSING THROUGH"... Another breath-taking performance that I truly adore...

My favorite Tori song. That "my best Angie Dickinson" line always kills me.
One of the best musicians ever.
Love her....rips my heart out every time
This song moves me. She's so eloquent with words. She is the bandaid for wounded souls. We are not alone, we have a voice to the pain felt. Beautiful defeat, personified.
so raw and emotional. I love tori during this period. she takes a big swig of liquor(?) at the end to cope with the emotional outpouring
This song still rips my heart out, 14 years later...
jeezuz it's really hard to watch these live/taping videos. she is so intensely 'inside' the song... i feel like this is a part of the process us mere mortals aren't supposed to witness. it's incredible to watch. the more of these sorts of performances of hers that i see, the more convinced i am that she's not of our realm and we only watch from across a deep, profound chasm. there's something deeply profound about her and her passion for her music.

Michael McBride you're a vey lucky individual. this woman has been a staple in my life since i was 9 years old when LE broke. a talent like no other
Don't make me scratch on your door

I only just turned around
For a poodle and a corvette
These have always been my favorite lines of the song,....how brilliant
I saw this tonight. and it might still be my favorite.
i'm obsessed..literally!!!!.what a queen....
This woman has my heart.
She and the song are so beautiful...and the very end! I can relate. She's in so much pain.
such a sweet song.
best era...seen her since '94- every two years she comes to us! Goddess
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Tori Amos is the most beautiful woman I've ever seen in my life.
i remember this song...i was 16....and knew i loved him. I didn't ever understand the magnitude of this song on my heart until now :(
She's GORGEOUS!
Omg, this recording still blows my mind 2 years later. The sensitivity and performance is so moving.

eternal love for Miss Amos

This song... idk how to explain it. It just made me cry when I first heard it, and even still, it rips my heart up.
Each time give me chills
pure perfection and just what I needed tonight
Just bumping this incredible version of this amazing song.
So beautiful.
am I the only one who thinks it is asong so filled with saddness, regret and acceptance at the same time that you have no choice but to cry?
One of the best. You inspire me and I love everything you do.
Beautiful in every way. I love early versions of this song, You'd performance is so raw and touching. One of my favorite songs for sure.
1 of my favorite songs of all time
exquisite/shattering
My goodness she has a magnificent voice. Not to mention how breathtaking she is...
Thanks for posting this

I’ve cried to this song so many times, one of her masterpieces

I love this series! Thanks.
I love Tori x
wow!!
and she's wearing the ring on a different hand/finger! :)
i'm fascinated with that ring.
awesome video!
You know, i still "whah-hray" all these silent years later and i dont think itll ever stop.

Wow, great song. Thanks for posting Hereinmyhead102

I want to leave a comment on this video but Brad Sittloh's comment below from 4 years ago states it better than I could.
so beautiful
An excellent video of one of my favorite songs of all time. Could any song or person be more beautiful?
Dew drop Inn tour was so good!
"but now i've got to worry cos' boy you still look pretty to me"
Starting to cheats tri consciousness, and I can’t even watch a Tori Amos playlist without Mohammed and Moses and Bethlehem, staring at me and my face because spirit does not want me to give up. I believe tory has a split personality or just on a completely higher plane or both !!!
The fact that she sings about angie Dickinson and puts in a cheeky impersonation!! Absolute genius and off the charts ..
Wow
best video version of this song, EVER! where did you get this? thank you so much for sharing...
The best.
She picked up that bottle out of pain and attempted to pickle herself out of pain and wanting to understand. Ditto. I understand. Poor baby. :(
Stupid men.
I totally concur~
I miss you Tori

I never asked you for a banjo..I only just turned around for a poodle and my best impression of my best impression of my best Angie Dickinson. 😘😘
well, you've got a screen name to live up to. ^_^
