    The reason you get those wind knots in braid is the nylon shock leader. Braid and braid leader works ok. Nylon and nylon line works ok. But never mix the two lines. They have different speeds through the eyes.
    It won’t always happen of course. But more often than not. That will be the issue.

    Your groundbait idea is something I've done for years. Best for me was when we had flounders locally.
    Dig the harbour rag over a 25mt section then mark the area with with sticks. As the tide progresses fish into the area with great results.
    I have used large freshwater feeders with pulped fish mixed with bran. Loads of other ideas

      I watched a guy fishing for black bream or the equivalent in Hong Kong of all places using a big feeder with excellent results. I’ve used feeders filled with pulped fish bits for pike fishing on rivers and it works really well providing you can keep the sodding crayfish at bay!

    You can catch a big fish on a small hook but not the other way round. I'd go smaller hoioks for dabs.
    Desperate to get a line in the water but don't like the cold much.

All the best for all the future projects you are planning. You have given me a the kick I needed to get the rods out again so thanks for that.

    Good one, I like your approach to catching Whiting 👍
    I'm attempting something similar this winter, with all the usual suspects as targets. I caught a Pout last week, on a lure with a 1-7g rod and the fight was awesome 🎣😊
    Whiting and dogfish are the next targets. I like to add a lumi bead too

    One to try when fishing for flatties, especially with flapper rigs (although work just as well with clipped rigs, just take a bit of careful setting up) is small circle hooks with a hair to carry the bait. Hooks them right in the corner of the mouth every time then👍

    A great video it brings back the memories of my sea fishing days (1950s-1960s). There's still a lot of skill involved, but the modern equipment makes it so much easier, we had cane and greenheart rods and cotton line! So we were fishing quite close in, 50 yards was considered a good cast.
    I know that you've covered it in the replies but novices always ask how far out are you casting, perhapsy should mention it
    Keep them coming. .

    Wind knots, errrrrr! Beautiful sunset Matt. Had a couple of bad wind knots back in the summer on the lure rod, spent 20mins trying to sort it which resulted in me cutting . Tried a couple of good braids now with fluorocarbon, but time to try another. Or old school nylon? All the best👍

    Nice to see the dabs turning up I fished this Wednesday Thursday and Friday at hythe and dungerness. With Blueys and worm. Non stop tings and the odd dogfish got to the point as soon as the bait hit the water rods where rattling away with ting bites must be billions out there. Even went up to a size 6 hook to stop catching them and still managed to hook the bloody things roll on April March.

    How's it going matt! Fantastic video and brilliant recording and editing skills 👏 just a thought about catching the dabs, I can't tell how big your hooks are on the 3 hook flapper but they look approx size 1 or 2? I'd say drop down to a size 4 or even 6 especially on the bottom snood that sits below the led on the sea bed. This absolutely hammers flat fish for us over here in Ireland and works every time for me during competitions I have plenty of shorts on my channel showing the catches😄I tread the worm up the snood and on top snood use floating beads and hook 1 small or maybe 2 small worms to the top hook👍by the way I use the gamakatsu f314 when choosing a small hook 👌thanks for your time

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  Год назад +1

      Thanks Dab are surprising good at taking bigger sized hooks. However I think a small size 4 or 2 to match the size of your lug bait. Some match scratching tactics required. I suffered a bit in the session because of the saggy frozen bait. Thanks again for your input😀

    • @ChristopherLanigan
      @ChristopherLanigan Год назад

      @Saltwater Angler yes I agree I've caught them on bigger hooks too but find the smaller hooks work much better when targeting flat fish👍ye I find even when pleasure fishing I tend to fish 1 rod for big fish and the other I scratch around for anything and everything 😂and you were right in saying fresh lug is best you can't get a better bait for winter fishing 😄big fan of your channel matt thanks for the reply mate

    Hi Matt. Couple of questions. When you had those triple shots, how long did you leave the bait in the water before retrieving? What was the tide doing, did you start at low water? Finally, how far out are you casting? My casting isn’t great and I wonder if I would catch more fish if I could cast further. Cheers.

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  Год назад +1

      I vary how long i leave the three hooked fish. You can tell the difference between a hooked fish Once theres a weight on the line and no real rattles i will wind in. 10 Minutes and i start to get a bit edgy .I would say that distance casting is always a useful at some point in the tide BUT you can still catch by casting short. Here i'm casting 80m but sometimes you need to be 140m to catch as thats where the tide is running best for example.

    • @SaltwaterAngler
