    You are spot on in informing beginning runners not to jump to intervals too soon.

    I’m about to turn 60, so I’m incorporating ‘Old Fartleks’ into my training.

      This was great, thanks, I've been looking for "running tips faster" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Ralebney Running Recoilless - (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some interesting things about it and my cousin got amazing results with it.

    Great info Coach M.......love intervals for how much they improve speed (don't really love actually doing them though...haha)

    Great advice thanks Morgan, as always from you guys 👍. Love to see you running with your dog. I do “dog runs” which are a combination of fartlek & informal intervals. I warm up with slow running.......stop & wait while she sniffs everything 😩. On the hills I run hard.....then wait for Ruby to catch up. Through the park I run backwards & sidewards.......to keep an eye out that she’s not pooping 😂. On the straights I sprint until I’m almost out of sight......then stop & wait. She’s usually happy to rest every second day so I get to run a steady non-stop day by myself. Given the choice of race times vs dog times I’ll take the later & let the former be what they are. Happy running & I love your channel 👏👏👌

    We did some fartlek workouts during the pre season for my high school cross country team. They included a mile warmup, then 12 minutes of fartleks with one minute going fast, and then one minute going back down to a slower pace. We then continued our run with an extra 4ish miles so we wouldn’t lose any weekly mileage.

      Just make running fun again. Slow down, run around a park, a trail, around a lake.

    The fourth kind is basic speed of 100m strides starting slow and hitting 95% effort at the end. They help to keep the legs sharp and reinforce neuromuscular connection without overload or much injury risk.

      Run further for awhile! Really push yourself without injury. Start each run and end each run strong ( fast for you )! Then do these drills she just mentioned in video! Then go back down to 1.5 but take breaks! 1 day up to 3 or 4 days sometimes depending on how busy/ how you are feeling! This worked for me minus her drills just saw them now! Also do downward dog walk outs! With some speed as you get comfortable with them! 🤔👍 just something to think about anyway! You can do the walk outs everyday though before bed or whenever! Do 5 minutes or less of them! That's all! 😊 hope you can take something from this !

    How many of these speed workouts can be done in a week? I am trying for a half marathon and am already doing one interval workout a week. Can I also add a tempo or fartleks?

    Thanks for the great video....the harness (normallly called no pull harnesses) the dog in the video is using is restricting its shoulder movement (freedom) so its no good...please check that out and best would be to get a harness in Y or H shape :)

    I do Fartleks only because I cannot afford a watch so Tempo Runs and Interval Runs are useless for me. LOL. Also, there is no track nearby. That is why I do Fartleks once a week and every week.

    Speed work is supposed to develop speed right ? Why include a tempo when it's strictly endurance workout ? Read some of the best running coaches like Jack Daniels or Arthur Lydiard "teaching" people.

    • @curtbentley
      @curtbentley 4 года назад

      Yeah, this explanation seems likely to confuse people. Race pace (!?) tempo running is going to have most people running them too fast and a few too slow...
