I’m 73. Saw them live in the 60’s as a “opening act” with Herb Alpert. Never saw anything to top that evening. That sound. The understated power of their music has no equal. Check out any of their other music. You will be amazed. Chrystal Illusions.
Did they top Alpert? I saw Journey and the opening band, Pat Travers blew them away and I am sure there are many other instances if people want to share?
Aside from the sultry voices, let's give huge credit to Sergio Mendes for being such a tremendous arranger. He puts his own unique touch on iconic songs that are already familiar to millions. Big changes, too. Very brave to even make such an attempt yet he does it again and again. Changed the whole time signatures of both Fool On The Hill and Scarborough Fair. Brilliant stuff. It would be an insult to call any of these efforts 'covers'. Over 50 years later and these songs stand the test of time like few others.

Amazing how two such great singers sound like one. And amazing as always how Lani has the most masterful, pure and powerful feminine voice imaginable. Truly the classic high water mark against which all other female singers must be judged.
This was the studio version, and Lani Hall did sing 100% of the vocals. They did some studio work and double tracked her vocals so it sounds like there are two people singing, but it's really just two tracks of Lani. Sorry to ruin the myth! I'm sure Janis was a good singer, and she probably kicked butt in concerts when they did need both voices live.
This music...timeless...and the performers...SO GOOD...they are, REALLY SOMETHING...so something, that nowadays, we don't have this kind of music...nor this kind of performances...

And then, later that I was sent to Brasil as a mormon missionary and there was lots of Bossa Nova and Samba to listen.
