  • How do you sand a floor on a narrowboat? Well, in this video we show you how we did it, worts and all!
    We take our reclaimed maple floor and transform it into something beautiful. It took a long time to get there but it was worth it. Filling in gaps, using slivers, hired sanders, sanding techniques - all done on a narrowboat.

    That floor has been hard work but it looks amazing. You’re doing a great job. Thanks for sharing your experience. It can’t be easy filming when you have such a tricky job to do.

      Hi Sylvia, you're right, it can be difficult, and over several weeks it's easy to forget what you've said or even filmed. But, glad you liked the vid., thanks for watching. Best, Martin

    Stunningly beautiful (the floor) considering where you started from you've made an absolutely gorgeous new floor out of some tired old timber - you should be proud of your achievement !

      Hi Graham, I must admit it took longer than I thought, these things always do but hard wood is as it says and it wasn't giving up it's history lightly. Thank you for commenting, best, Martin

      Hi Alan, thanks for watching. It does look good and we're looking forward to seeing again one day as, at the moment, it's covered up with Antinox to protect it (black plastic corrugated sheets which soaks up all the light). Best, Martin

    Lovely job. Did one similar to this a few years ago. Used hard wearing floor varnish..After a couple of years I wished I'd used a clear epoxy resin. Lasts much longer. Great job though.

    Lovely floor. A lot of work, but it looks so good! If you plan to do something similar for the kitchen work top surface, try to find some amber based varnish as it is said to be scratchr esistant and non toxic for contact with various food groups.

      Hi Esther, thank you! And thanks for the additonal advice, we'll certainly look into amber based varnish, it's new to me but sounds like a plan. Best, Martin

    good to see the boat progressing, have you left enough space for the floors to expand or contract with the weather changes?

    • @TheNarrowBoatToTheDeepNorth
      @TheNarrowBoatToTheDeepNorth  5 лет назад

      Hi Judi, thanks for watching. We've left space on either side of the floor and we'll have a box for the plumbing to cover it so it won't be visable. Best, Martin

    some people swear by using margarine to sand their floor however, I'm not sure whether it will work!

    Dont hit a scraper with a hammer! Use the correct tools, maybe?
