"I hate you for what you did, and I miss you like a little kid." This first line is so fucking relatable. I love this song.
This line never fails to give me chills
Reminds me of Just Like Him by Brandy Clarke.
the way she sings it especially in the recording is special
Your audio engineers should all get a raise for this one.
Agreed completely, the drums are sounding perfect! What a piece!
They are always state of the art....I always seek out KEXP for great sound quality and Phoebe Bridgers:-)
Ben Krogh just what I was thinking
Dem drums aye. Toight mate. A+
Dude yes
"Why do you sing with an English accent I guess it's too late to change it now" lolol
Sucks to be Ryan adams getting wrecked on this track.
Zachary Jollimore literally the best diss track of the decade
I'm English so I can't hear the "English" accent. Maybe it sounds English to Americans?
In the rural american town fairground, I go around
gross misunderstanding of my influences
I check my phone, and make the sound
Like theme from failure, performed for just you
Like my bare proportions un-tensed, and un-toweled
It's not an English Accent ?
Her voice is fucking incredible. I thought it was good in the studio version but goddamn!
The note at the end gave me life
I'm 35 and I still can't write about trauma like this. Every time I try, I just end up writing a song about macaroni and cheese or something similarly silly. I don't dare to even write, let alone share, something that makes me feel so exposed. She's so fucking brave. I love this song and everything she has done.
I love macaroni and cheese 😆 and about trauma... drop your pants, we are family and the universe loves YOU 🥰👍
keep on trying, ur doing great, i hope you can make a whole album with ur creativeness✨
Mac and cheese is fucking great and that's normal every time i think abt it i feel like i want to fucking bleach my skin off but yk i haven't
We all process trauma differently. Mac and cheese is a comfort food. It's perfectly valid to find reassurance in comfort, especially when tackling such a large issue
I was on my knees,
spankings and mac and cheese,
the kraft sauce please,
I gasp and wheeze
In a sinking bedroom,
where I cry myself to sleep,
trauma sticking to my insides like the orange yellow crust on week old bowls
I pay for therapy, afraid to become a weak old soul.
This woman has been my salvation during lockdown.
Same here 🙋♀️
same
Same bro.
I’m going through the worst breakup up I’ve ever had, she’s been a life saver
Ohh how did you get to meet her, during lockdown and all ..
We need more mint-green guitars in the world.
mint/ sea foam green guitars are 100% the absolute best
@@rats1131 PLAY FOREVER! 😎✌️🎶🎸🪕
that danelectro baritone Pheobe is playing holds it all together.
Sounds like a mellow mood song, is actually a savage burn.
Definetly top 3 most savage songs ever written, ryan adams better shut up after this song😂
Why do you sing in an English accent?
opening on that note is so. ridiculously. hard. I don't know how she does it.
what do you mean by this?
C sharp right? Or in the neighborhood of
@@clarel4449 to start off on that high-ish note is pretty hard if your voice isn’t warmed up fully
you were in a band when I was BORN!!!
we all dated that one guy!!!!!!
all rise for the national anthem
3:53 i have to say that was a very surprisingly high quality scream.. Super clean..not to mention the sound quality oof
She was belting
@@Anya-hf8gc call it what you want, it was yummy
@@ludwigvonn9889 If we’re calling it what I want, “yummy” ain’t it.
@@seanmatthewking stfu, she was amazing as fuck
@@Anya-hf8gc ?
4:10 I love how distinctly unimpressed everyone in her band is after Phoebe just flawlessly hit the longest and most beautiful note I‘ve ever heard, guess they‘re used to it haha
I've seen Phoebe live 4 times...it's remarkable how consistent she is. I hope one day she's remembered as the generational talent she deserves to be.
y'all really need to listen to more music
bra💀...........she was just screaming😂😂
@@abrahamlincoln5679 precisely! Just because it’s high, that doesn’t make it good, kids. 😂😂😂
@@nickpagano7134 what a goofball flex.
She puts it all so well together, phrases, pretones, I mean it's feeling
What is a pretone?
Try some Bob Dylan
It's fucking music
This is the best live sound quality available of this song by far.......
*of any song!
someone give her a sword
Someone did
You know? Yeah. You're totally right. Hell yeah. Give this woman a goddamn sword!!
War Crimes no
@@AcidropOSY Mate he said sword not dagger.
Haha, she's already got an axe, so ;) .
3:19 that note though. Outrageous.
I see myself returning to this video just for that part. It's so good!
Perfection
I thought she is one of those whisper-singers but girl can belt the notes out.
I’ve never thought an artist could sound better live, but here I am.
**Twenty One Pilots entered the chat**
How have you never thought that, have you not seen any of the tiny desk concerts
Plenty of artist that sound better live , phoebe isn’t one of them
I don’t understand why people say this. Do you actually not know bands/artists who are better live?
This gives me hope for the future of music.
there are no words in the English language I could scream to express how much I love phoebe
Her voice😇
The lyrics:😈🔥💥
at a very young age anytime I was around older men I always had this gut feeling, I could never describe the feeling in words but it always shook me to my bones. Almost a sense of creepiness I’d get from them. One time I went to a church camp and there was this man in his thirties who wouldn’t leave me alone, he would always try to get me to “hang out with him” or join him in games. He never did it to the other children. And I remember how persistent he was. I never understand why he was so persistent. I had to cry in front of my best friend at the time and she told him I don’t want to be around him just for him to leave me alone. And I’ve had so many more experiences like that, this song almost brings comfort to my child trauma. Thank you Phoebe.
“You were in a band when I was born”
Is just a way of saying your older than me and there was a power balance in our relationship and you’re a creepy old guy who goes after young girls.
There's another part too though...When he says "I was in a band when you were born," it's kind of a fuck you to her. But then she takes the exact same line to say fuck you herself.
isnt this song to the guy he s*xually assaulted her and other women in the music industry?
@@mi3lla yeah Ryan adams lol.
@@mrcanarsie men who have power won't stop abusing women
@@MichaelColombo which song of his says that? woah
Your stage presence is so relaxing to watch. Your performace is effortless. Love your clean sound!
Ryan Adams lost a long time fan in me, and I’m so happy to have discovered YOU.
The burn on this song makes "You're so vain" by Carly Simon seem like a love letter in comparison.
Organic. Analogue. Natural and not overly compressed. The audio on this leave plenty of space even with RUclips compression. Fantastic engineering.
They're all so pretty omg
She is so goddamn pretty
@love you Jesus phoebe bridgers is jesus
Yeah look, I come back to this performance all the fucking time and it’s just perfect.
That note from 3:53-4:07 though
Perfection
She's incredible I-
This girl is giving her al right here, holding back her tears! This music is as straight from the heart as physically possible. And it’s bloody amazing!
[Verse 1]
I hate you for what you did
And I miss you like a little kid
I faked it every time
But that's alright
I can hardly feel anything
I hardly feel anything at all
[Verse 2]
You gave me fifteen hundred
To see your hypnotherapist
I only went one time
You let it slide
Fell on hard times a year ago
Was hoping you would let it go, and you did
[Chorus]
I have emotional motion sickness
Somebody roll the windows down
There are no words in the English language
I could scream to drown you out
[Verse 3]
I'm on the outside looking through
You're throwing rocks around your room
And while you're bleeding on your back
In the glass
I'll be glad that I made it out
And sorry that it all went down like it did
[Chorus]
I have emotional motion sickness
Somebody roll the windows down
There are no words in the English language
I could scream to drown you out
Hey, why do you sing with an English accent?
I guess it's too late to change it now
You know I'm never gonna let you have it
But I will try to drown you out
[Bridge]
You said when you met me, you were bored
You said when you met me, you were bored
And you, you were in a band when I was born
[Chorus]
I have emotional motion sickness
I try to stay clean and live without
And I want to know what would happen
If I surrender to the sound
Surrender to the sound
Still as wonderful and haunting as when I first heard it.
First heard Phoebe at a music festival in Queens featuring The National. The lineup included Future Islands, Cigarettes After Sex, and of course, Phoebe Bridgers. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was listening to an ALL-STAR lineup...and I was in heaven. What an unforgettable day.
What a lineup. Dream.
That sounds incredible
Adia Victoria and Jason Isbell too. That show was awesome.
i love this even more than the studio version
same
I sometimes wish I didn't relate to this song 100 percent on so many levels, but I'm so grateful for this art. It's a deep song and helpful.
Right at this moment I feel that if, by any chance, when we die we'd be given a chance to pick where we'd like to spend the rest of the eternity in a closed loop, I'd take this artist, this song, this studio, this sound.
This comment is making me anxious
@@usernamesnamesnames Sorry to cause you anxiety. Try taking comments with a pinch of salt. It may raise your blood pressure a bit but reduces anxiety.
I keep coming back to this
Around 1:50 the harmony on while you’re bleeding on your back, in the glass. is beautiful.
this can break your heart like a million times 💔
i've become so obsessed with this that i listen to this at least four times a day
I love how her speaking voice at the beginning is low and when so angelic "pure" when she sings
Bad ass audio quality. She has a great voice!
quality of this recording is bananas!
this is it chief
Wow. The drummer is kicking ass. Whole band is put together, I am digging.
There are a few exceptional live versions of Motion Sickness...its hard to decide which one is the best! This one is tied for first place!
I found this song when I was going through psychosis from a lithium withdrawal and it means so much. I cryyyyyyy
It came out and I was working a new job and all I felt was nauseating. All I wanted was windows in the building.
Live version is even better than the CD!
CD? People still buy them?
Phoebe and the band keep sounding bigger and better
I hope she puts out a live album. Someone needs to document this excellent band live!
I try to re-like this every time I watch it which is like every other day
This song makes me cry in every form I hear it.
My favorite female singer of all time.. No wait, my favorite singer of all time! got damn this shit is amazing!
3:20 makes me sob it’s so beautiful :,)
Live band sounding ridiculously amazing, like they were injected with the spirit of music straight into their main line. Good golly.
I'm not one for hyperbole, but this is amongst the finest songs ever written, and this is a wonderful live rendition. It's so easy to fall in love with this simultaneously brave and vulnerable talent.
3:20 gives me life. This is the best ever performance of Motion Sickness.
Hard to put into words how powerful and magical this performance was…
Oh hello goose bumps, havent seen you lately..
Same, and I can hardly feel anything at all
Thank you KEXP! This is my favorite song from the album.
Her belting those lyrics out gave me the chills, amazing performance!
Her little smile at the beginning is too much 😍
Stumbled across this - good song, love from across the pond.
This is exactly what I was looking for from the demo version. Amazing! You guys hit all points. Thank you. There’s that last “I have emotional motion sickness” that the studio/non demo does not hit. This is right on the money.
I friggin' love her voice!
I love this song so much, it gets to me every time.
Wow she’s just so great! I’ve come back to this a dozen times over the last 2 weeks & mind blown 🤯 🚀
Ive listening to this song a thousand times but never gotten chills from it like this. Fuck. What a legend.
this is soo damn good Phoebe! cant stop listening to this version.
Everything about this is great.
Such an amazing song.
This performance lives in my heart
This channel is pure gold. Thank you!
Okay, this live performance is INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a beautiful song, this is great!
Love how there are no words to drown it out but the long note is the surrender and everything is just beautiful sound.
The mix and sound of this is amazing
She's so amazing and the band killed it
absolutely one of her best performances
A singular, spectacular talent..
Such a wonderful gift in these hard times
