I'm getting mine tomorrow. I love this phone! Great camera, the phone is nice and bulky so I can hold it properly and it has a lovely display.

Clearly biased review... It's actually quite modern for Sony in 2018, well rounded and surprisingly high end for the price and compared to the competition. You're not gonna find a "typical" midrange phone with these features (bezeless sides, headphone jack, large battery, 1080p beautiful screen that's not gargantuan, oreo, wide angle selfie, 4K, I can go on...) Honor? Really? No... . Motorola? No, Not yet, maybe the G6+ but that's not out yet.
Maybe rename this video "My biased opinion of the XA2 because I'm getting paid to knock the phone").

We're certainly not biased, and certainly haven't been paid! There are a lot of good elements to the XA2, but the design and camera performance really let it down for us compared to some of the competition. A lot of other people may well love it though, and it's certainly not a bad phone!
Tech Advisor well that's good to hear at least. Even so, if I take my feelings out of the equation... I don't believe you get the build quality, sound output, quality and brilliance of screen stock experience and so on from the competition you mentioned. Perhaps in the camera quality (barely), and the bezels /thickness (which is a preference, not a better feature)... So again, it seems I have to reiterate, this review is certainly more of your personal opinion and feelings on this device VS the competition, not an unbiased review... And that's totally fine.
What the hell else is a review other that somebodies biased opinion? They can't speak for the general population as a whole, though even if they somehow could based on Sony's sales numbers in the phone market the review would still be very similar. There's no objectivity to be had on certain aspect such as the bezels, aspect ratio, and bulkiness, it's all opinion based.
You Sony fanboys are the absolute worst, I'd love for you to explain to me which company is paying for negative reviews against Sony, a company that's barely on the map in America for smartphones. Seems like the money would better be spent elsewhere against actual competition, but what do I know. If things don't turn around for their smartphone division, Sony will eventually drop out of the market just like they stopped making their laptops. I hope you don't die of a broken heart when that happens.
Richard Hawk dont put your hopes up too high its not going to happen! XZ2/XZ2 Compact have already proved that they're one of the best, top 2018's flagship phones! same goes to XA2/XA2 Ultra one of best mid rangers you can buy and wait for the XZ2 Premium its going to be a killer phone !
Firstly, very mature.... Because I'm the one blogging about an eighth of an inch bezel. Second, Sony does quite well overseas, the US population isn't the brightest bunch and makes purchasing decisions based on hype, popularity and marketing.... Most have no idea what they're even buying.
Lastly, call me what you will but I'm not a fan boy... I'm an average consumer with a passion for technology who has tried every OEM under the sun, and Sony continues to be at the top of my list. Not because they have the best specs or flashy gimmicks, but because they're solid, well built phones that perform very well across the board.
Dude! Please get your facts right! The Xperia XA2 does not have an entire metal body. It's got a Polycarbonate back with a metal trim on the edges plus the display is not just 'nice' or 'standard'. It's an excellent IPS FHD display!

This phone sells for 250e in europe and I would say its in the same class with Galaxy A5 2017 or Huawei mate 10 lite which now sells at 210e. Quality wise is closer to nokia 7 plus, premium materials unlike huawei and xiaomi.
I have a Xperia E5, equally a middle range model back two years ago. It's quality and features are amazing for such a low price smartphone. The only thing I did was adding more memory to it and the lack of a second chip.
I have 6month old xa2. The problem is when i am typing, the space doesn't work. You need to press the home and back to message again till it works.
Not everyone needs 18:9 screen ratio...stop trying to make it so.to everyone on here its your money buy whatever phone you want...its your money..some of these reviews are just ridiculus

Which phone is better this phone or p20 lite.. i'm looking for a new phone so any phone you think is good and doesnt cost a fortune let me know. I'm a fan of the s8 as well but people I talk to are more so in favour of p20 lite
HOW do you turn up volume when someone calls you on XA2? Outside you usually need to put it on speaker phone to hear them but even that is not that loud. Media volume obviously doesn't increase the volume of someone calling you (or you call them and connect). Can it be increased? Thanks!
4k video is not important in a phone, what is important is 1080p 60fps and minimum EIS AT that 60fps. A phone that can do that is absolutely fine. What is not fine and in fact is crap is no stabilization at all and only 30fps in lesser phones. That should now be deemed unacceptable and people that care at all about shooting video on their phone should boycott phones that attempt to maintain that significantly inferior standard.

Hi guys. May I ask if you had any updates to the XA2 since making this video? Any changes or improvements you have noticed (even subtle or minor) to the battery life, RAM management and camera as a whole?

I actually don't like 18:9. This phone actually is like a flagship from 2016. Not terrible.
BTW when watching 16:9 videos (which I do a lot), you get terrible artificial bezels which looks terrible. A 5.7" 18:9 turns into a 5.4" display when watching video content on RUclips.
For my needs personally I watch a lot of landscape videos. 18:9 is great if you do a lot of scrolling like reading web pages or articles but it's really not my taste. I enjoy videos more and I like a full experience without compromising video Immersion.

Fair enough! We're fans of 18:9 here, but totally agree that 16:9 can be better for watching videos, so hopefully there'll always be a few phones around with that format screen.
Tech Advisor True. I don't hate 18:9, but I also wouldn't like anyone to criticise any phone due to a 16:9 ratio. That doesn't actually seem like a bad thing, and there's a large crowd who also believe that isn't a bad thing as well. IMO bezels are a thing of the past but it's nicer to have a bezel which was designed and has purpose than to have a black bezel that is plain and ugly or to watch a video where your head and arms are cut off

@Honey badger It's very good and the battery seems to last forever :p Nice and smooth performance, excellent screen (1080p 16:9) and excellent camera with a fast shutter. Nice weight and it has a headphone jack! Love this phone.
The only thing impressive of the next XA2 Ultra version is the over hand size body... . Both lack important features like Mirror Cast and limited or compromised prixel for the use of stabilization, left too much channeling ruff footage like running & viewing through a window net while moving, as not enough prixel-in-prixel steady shot or still-ready capture, it should have had a physical zoom and magnetic gimbals mirror swivel stabilization, its pure digital. Unless your in personally witness live zoom, snapshot/recorded digital zoom is just myth/BS.
Always biased when it comes to Sony. Sony's the best.
I like the bezels. Give some actual surface to hold, instead of trying to Avoid toucging the screen.
Hopefully it's better than the xa1 I've had it 9 months and it's spent 6 months being sent away just kept turning off and wouldn't turn on with full battery any problems from the xa2 and I'll get the s8 or 9

I'd choose any Sony......because it's android.. I'd never use iPhone over android because we've had iOS devices before and transferring music, videos and pictures is a royal pain in the ass unless you're using an Apple computer too and all Apple accessories.. and that alone, for me, is enough to say "eww no" to all Apple products..

I'm interested in purchasing this phone in a few days. Is the sound good when you are using the headphone jack? I heard that it was a bit disappointing. Is that true? I thought that headphones themselves mattered more than the jack.
We liked the sound through the headphone jack. It's maybe not quite up there with the top Sony flagships, but there's very little to complain about - especially with fewer and fewer phones have a jack at all.
Xa2 or iPhone 6? (camera, battery..)
XA2 probably works out at better value, but iPhone/Android is always a tough comparison because you've got the software to consider too, and that's usually more important in a lot of ways - Dom
