I friggin' love this phone. The camera is pretty awesome, it takes really wide pictures and the shutter is super snappy. Oh and it can record in 120fps for super slowmo, 60fps for those action shots and 4k for whatever. It just ooze quality. Oh and the battery lasts forever .. Almost :p
Everything you need is in this phone, great mid-ranger and definitely worth it!
Agreed, it also includes Slow Motion video 120fps for first time on a mid-range phone from Sony, this is the reason I'm getting this instead of Galaxy A8, since the price is $150 less.

Spec wise, this is definitely a killer mid-range phone. As long as Sony price it right, this could be their key to a long awaited comeback.

Yeah, agree it seems like the kinda budget device that a lot of reputed companies fails to offer, the phone has a premium design (a bit older style though), has a huge battery (a place where Chinese budget devices excels in) and have decent cameras for a budget device. Yeah, pricing is the key here, if they market this phone well and price it right they can actually sell this device well, especially in developing markets.

Not really, the A8 from Samsung is $500 and this will be $350 and the Sony Xperia Xa2 can record video in slow motion at 120fps

They feel like if you don't carry around an expensive name brand phone then "You don't know what's up" or "you just can't get with the program" or "something's wrong with you buddy"
And they're afraid of someone else belittling their phone by being told "you're phone doesn't have this?? Psst....."
or "damn, your phone can't do that?? Hahaha"
And therefore, they go and buy themselves an expensive name brand phone just to feel like they can fit in with the "cool kids."

Yup, the upgrade seems to be well thought out this time around. Battery life is one place where budget devices can excel as they often use less power hungry processors and hardware, so if coupled with a larger battery the phone can run for 2 days straight and could be a huge selling point for the device. They also changed the fingerprint scanner for making it available for US market and the curve the add to the phone makes it way more comfortable to hold in hand, though a metal body would've been better.

I had a chance to choose between nokia 6.1 2018 phone or this xa2 phone. I chose this one and I regret. This is a good phone but its not what I was looking for. Its heavy, photos aren't that good, I have wifi connection problems, and it overheats when playing heavy games. Battery is great.
Which Sony phone is best to use for playing your ps4 at home?

great to see a solid video review so soon in comparison to other reviewers and this phone does look solid, I think Sony did a nice job, even though water resistance would have been a great addition and I am sad that they skipped on that... Having said that, I am happy to see that XA2 has very good battery life and seems fast enough, this is probably my next phone 😎

my iPhone x got ran over, long story. So I went to Best buy in corpus Christi Texas to pick this one out for $200. Not so bad so far just a bit awkward in the hand.
Getting mine in this week. Was a choice between XA2 and L2. The XA2 won obviously lol. Currently have a C3, still going strong after 4yrs
I've had mine for almost a month and really like it a lot.
Just got the xa1 after my Samsung broke, and I love it. Will stick with Sony from now on

Do you have problems with typing the edge letters on this phone? I own a XA1 (last years model), and typing 'p' or '0' is a pain in the ass sometimes. Because of the slightly curved screen edge. How is the typing on this phone, any issues with that?
Front facing camera and audio seem terrible. Moving on in my search. Thanks for making a video that helped me to avoid this phone.

Wish list for XA3: SAME FORM FACTOR, 4gb ram, better low light performance and better front camera. If it had those things, I would not look anywhere else for the best compact, practical mid-range phone!

Plastic body, display looks something smaller,that Sony mid range waterproofing.....
And I missed that stock android UI that's always on Sony phones.......................

1 year later. Do you have a Sony Xperia A2
You should test out the Stereo Microphones because mine are wired backwards where the only way to get the left and right microphones to record to the correct channel is to hold the phone upside down when recording videos.
This phone lasted 6 months for me.
Processor eventually couldnt take it anymore and phone kept on shutting down by using multiple apps.
Snapchat compatibility is terrible, sound is muffled during video.
Pictures are poor quality in in-door lighting and exposure.
That sounds nothing like my XA2... It performs fantastic in multiple apps, it has never shut down and sound is what you'd expect for a tiny speaker. Pictures are excellent quality and the camera has a super snappy shutter. The only downside is the screen. I come from OLED so it takes a while to get used to the angles of the lcd. But if you look at it straight, it looks just like an oled - Nice and crisp.

User of z5 as well ✋. I want to upgrade to xz premium but since Sony in x series remove some features that I consider it's useful (such as screen recorder, double tap to wake up and small app), i'm not sure to buy the new phone. Maybe stuck with my z5 for forever. The new ui on oreo and some feature such as Xperia action is great but, removing those three features is really disappointing me...

Thank you. Do you suggest me to buy Sony Xperia XA2 or Honor 9 (4 GB ram version)? I know H9 benchmark is a lot better, but i'm scared about battery life (LiPo), and the glass, so fragile. H9 is 4 GB ram and 64 GB memory, XA2 just 3 GB ram and 32 GB memory. What should i buy in your opinion? I would like to don't change the phone in next 2-3 years. Thank you
Looks like I'll get this as my next phone. The phone I use atm is the Huawei P8 Lite and the battery is pretty bad after over 3 years and it takes over 3-4hours to get to ~50% .

Great Video! Not being a hater but your eyes and expressions reminded me of that one time I was on mushrooms and I happen to look at myself on the mirror and was mesmerized of what I was seeing in the mirror. Mind you , I did not see my reflection on that mirror..
HOW do you turn up volume when someone calls you on XA2? Outside you usually need to put it on speaker phone to hear them but even that is not that loud. Media volume obviously doesn't increase the volume of someone calling you (or you call them and connect). Can it be increased?
The Sony XA2 video camera can record in slow motion but the XA1 can't? Is that correct. With the XA1 if it cannot record in slow motion can you later put videos in to slow motion with editing software? Video quality wise even though XA2 is higher spec the quality difference with XA1 is very minor from comparison footage I've seen, is that accurate? Deciding between XA1 and XA2 to buy and good video camera is a definite must for me but XA1 is lot cheaper so if only minor improvement in quality I'll go for XA1. Thanks for help!

Sony should just adopt android one. I don't really like their overlay and it would be a reason to buy it if it had stock. The plastic back is a huge no-no makes the rest of it look cheap and it scratches.

I'm thinking of getting this phone for my son as an upgrade from his old Moto G3 that is dying. On the 32 gig model, how much free space is there as I know andriod OS's like to take a lot of space. Also will this upgrade to Pie once it's released?

What I dislike about the phone is onscreen nav bar that occupies its display area. If Sony adds option to hide it, I will buy this phone.

I have a question: How does this phone compare to Samsung A7 (2018)? Here, both Xperia XA2 and A7 (2018) cost the same at the moment (XA2 is a bit cheaper, but ignorable). So how bad is XA2? The processor ratings are very low for Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 compared to Samsung Exynos 7880, and XA2 has 3GB RAM compared to 4GB RAM in A7 (2018). So, really what is the benefit of getting XA2? something that I'm missing so far? :-)

I really want this phone, unfortunately my Xperia M4 Aqua is loosing battery very fast, the only thing I will miss will be IP68 water resistance but this phone (XA2) looks to take much better pictures, even better than iPhone 6S so that's why I want it.
I have an m4 aqua as well and feel it's at the end of its life.

Ugh I don't know if I should go ahead and get one of these or wait and see if the new design and 2:1 aspect ratio from the XZ2 will trickle down to the XA range. I'm just impatient I guess. Though there is also the possibility the XA3 if that's what it will be called will lose the headphone jack as well.

yesterday, I bought XPERIA XA2 , in Macau, at Fortress store, at L3 of Venetian casino. price was 2000 HKD. I like this phone.
One major reason of buying Sony phone is, I don't like South Korea and China.
