Packaging and DOT. Supra was never designed to fit the manual transmission in the tunnel of the car, they sacrificed it to keep the car smaller. And DOT because each transmission type has to be crash tested, this costs millions to do each time.

I'm not saying they are bad but like all sportscars, they are subjected to increased wear and tear and that's just how it is. Fact of the matter is that you are much safer with a brand new BMW vs any used Porsche. It’s a shame that BMW only offers the 2 in turbo charged form. I get it, if the made a lower power NA base model it would probably take too many enthusiasts away from the M models. That wouldn’t really be a problem imo. If people could get a new 2 series with an i6/manual/RWD I’m pretty sure it would have been one of the best selling coupes of the last 20 years. There’s a huge void in the automotive world right now, it sits right between the $30k entry sports cars like the Miata’s, Toybaru’s and the $80k M’s, Cayman’s etc. All I want is a lightish weight, small displacement, manual sports car that’s a little nicer and more grown up then the entry level.

Truth, as a former owner of a few (5) BMWS - 318, 325, X5 (2011), and an M5 (2014), the "modern" BMW I've test driven has gone to the dogs. Crappy transmissions, slushy handling, imprecise brakes that overheat easily. Remember how the old BMW's felt? That's gone. Replaced with a $92k mini track car with alcantara? That's the best BMW can do? I weep that I sold my older Bimmers.

@@gregoryludt3204 Dare I say, Insulting? Folks think about what else is available in this price range and be sure to test drive them. #$83K. It's not the price really, right? It's the value - the performance, the handling, the durability, the reliability, even as a track only car (which would require enormous bmw spec upgrades) - I'm just shaking my head. The only BMW's I see in my condo garage are M5's. Lots of well cared for Porsches (new to 20+ years old). Lots of Audi crossovers, teslas are long gone replaced by Taycans. A bunch of McLaren's sprinkled about. I write this because there are a group of well heeled weekend racing enthusiasts here - they drive everything and the results are a great indication of quality. Probably more than you needed but maybe valuable for the readers. Cheers all.
