- The new BMW M2 CS is a recipe for fun! It's time for a first test drive in the new limited edition, lighter-weight, more potent version of BMW's popular M2 to see what it's all about. After a walkaround to run through the changes, new carbon parts, and what's gone into it, it's straight in for some quick laps at the Sachsenring.
The BMW M2 CS beings from a strong base with the M2 Competition, and then adds 40 more horsepower to reach a total of 450hp from the 3.0l TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder engine, with the same 550nm, and then also shaves weight thanks to a carbon fibre roof construction, carbon bonnet, carbon central tunnel and more. Improvements also come now thanks to having M Adaptive Suspension, a lighter wheel option, M Sports brakes as standard (with optional carbon ceramics), and more aero with a front splitter and rear wing working in harmony.
The M2 CS is available as both a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT, the latter of which I can experience on track. It's a limited production model by time, meaning slightly more than 2,000 will be built in total with European deliveries coming through thick and fast later this year. Options are limited with 4 body colours available including the launch Misano Blue, finished with either matt Gold or Jet Black wheels, completed with 2 tyre choices.
After taking a look through the car at the various changes that have been made, it's straight into the hot seat for some quick laps at the Sachsenring behind a pace car to feel what it's all about. On a circuit with intense undulations and tight corners gives an opportunity to get a first feel for what the M2 CS is like, in the natural habitat that is intended for the car. The formula of saving weight, increasing power, and setting it up for track prowess naturally makes it more light-footed and confident on track.

@@nessuno5403 ermmm... It's lighter than the M2 Competition LOL. Adaptive suspension is always a bonus BTW, not only it brings superior ride comfort compared to the standard car, but also better handling in sportier modes.
New Cayman gt4 is perfection, and a little cheaper i think

The reality is the M2 Competition and CS are THE best modern BMW “M car” made at any price point. The size, power, and balance is a work of art. These are powerful drivers cars that will crush cars costing 3 times as much $$$ on tracks like the Nürnberg ring. There is many videos showing these little monsters at wok.

a m2 cs is over 100k €, it wont crush a gt3rs or a turbo :D
nor any other sport car, in that price range, even a cayman gt4 will be like 10 seconds faster

The M2 is the only true BMW car that BMW still make. It’s the only ‘fun’ car with character, personality and emotion in the whole range.
Don’t get me wrong, technically BMW make great cars but they’ve just become painfully dull.
They are only made with 50% German parts too. At least the M5. That’s why parts don’t last as long.
Sean German parts has nothing to do with it. The E46 water pumps, N54 fuel pumps, etc were all made in Germany

I think I’m right on saying the m2 alone will go down as a desirable future classic but this, cause it carries the cs name will be worth an absolute fortune. Cracking car can’t wait till I get my hands on a m2 comp
This CS is pure marketing, it's as heavy as Competition unless you spend Porsche money and option the carbon brakes. The Competition just needs a retune (that's all CS is) and stickier tyres. Adaptive suspension is a heavy digital addition.
Some sort of individual pearl red paint colour with gold wheels and accents would be perfect with this car! I love that combo, especially with a Senna...

BMW specifically mentioned that they tried red as the hero colour for this car and for whatever reason it didn't work. Thankfully they used red for the LCI M5 Comp and it looks off the planet.
Aesthetics are great. Wouldn't be my choice for an "occasional" track driving car in that price bracket. There is a mid-engine car in that price bracket, which I know from experience is very settling on the track.
Exactly. This is an overpriced marketing model. Not lightweight like a CSL and not mechanically improved like a GTS. Go Cayman GT4.

You can get a Competition manual and still have a classic or more so since it doesn't have adaptive suspension. More pure analogue. This CS is an overpriced marketing special - not CSL and no GTS engine hardware changes.

None of the blue colours are really exclusive anymore so nothing wrong with this one. Still looks amazing even if the colour can be specced on any other model - they still won’t look anything like this good as this 👍🚙🚙🚙👌
The only Blue a M car should have in this size is Estoril. It's a shame they let that color float to other models. My E46 M3 in that color was a favorite.

Best M car made right now! Like a New version of the lightweight E46 M3, if they didn't hold it back to assure they keep selling M3's, M4's, and M5's it would be miles ahead of all of them. A pure turbo upgrade an a good pair of kc coilovers with a few other bits n pieces and dampers put it miles ahead of any M

There is an M2 CS Racing model. Ironically it is more M2 Competition if you ignore the carbon roof. No adaptive suspension, no carbon brakes and no carbon bonnet.
Looks horrible with the gold wheels. I like the blue/black combination.

I spec’d out that car on the BMW website....85k!... a similar M2 competition is still an overpriced 60k. That CS is not worth 25k more than a competition. In that price range you can get a new cayman 4.0 GTS. I know which I would choose...
What were Those camouflage prototypes?
The car looks amazing but I'm wondering why you can't get any corner with a maintained turn of the steering wheel but always by little movements. Is it because the steering doesn't communicate much?
Sweet little car! Not sure if the CS is worth the extra cash in terms of driving, but I would love to have the Competition as a daily! Shame it cost around 370000 SGD fully-speced....

Id drove this same m2 cs today on my job and its amazing, and i drove a m2 competitian futura 2000 edition aswel. Its beautiful. Badly i cant put pictures on youtube comments that would be great..

Hate to be this guy but I believe it is twin turbo, not a twin power turbo (bmw's name for a twin scroll turbo) the n55 and b58 are twin power turbos... s55 and n54 are truly twin turbo
is it really much better than a m2 comp! you can get one of those with only 1000 miles for 40k then just add your carbon and map for more power! save a lot of money!

is this M2 really same price level as M3 CS or am I missing something? Seems way overpriced to me. Yes the CF roof is nice but the total weight is not much lower than in the M2 Competition. I have not driven this yet but would go 100 times out of 100 for the M3 or M4 CS if the price level is the same.

Agree. Engine is no different, just retune but same torque. Adaptive suspension adds weight and complexity. This is no collectable CSL.
