M2 CS Review + Akrapovic Exhaust & The Next M2!!

  • This could be, the last truly great M car, and also pound for pound, the most capable car I’ve ever owned from new. And today I install the Akrapovic exhaust at Litchfield, links below:
    Akrapovic system:
    BMW M2 CS (F87N) - OPF/GPF 2021 Slip-On Line (Titanium) - Akrapovič Car Exhaust
    Litchfield: Litchfield Motors - www.litchfield...
5000 miles down and I can’t stop driving it. A true spiritual successor to the E30 in size, capability and notoriety. The M2 Comp by itself is amazing, but the CS brings in small changes in meaningful places to massive final effect, as any good run out edition should
The S55 engine is the twin mono scroll turbo in line 6 engine, same unit as we found in the previous M4. In the comp it made 410BHP, but in the CS it’s had a massive boost to 450BHP, 550nm. That essentially a 10% hike, the most any CS model has ever gotten. M4CS got only 10BHP, and the M5 the same, equalling a nominal 2-1% respectively.
Theres manual and DCT options, this being the last DCT we will see too sadly, torque convertors still not quite as snappy yet. Places the 0-60 at 4.2 for manual and 4.0 for our DCT car here.
So the power bump is BIG, and it’s that paired then with more typical CS changes that begins to elucidate why this CS is so so much better overall. New bonnet in CFRP - halves the weight, increases downforce on front end, and aids engine cooling. Same style design as the M4 CS, similar application to M5. Forged wheels are 9kg front and 10 rear and come standard with Michelin Cup 2s: i have replaced them with PS4S for better performance in the wet. M Sport Brakes are larger too, 400mm front and 380mm rear: 4 piston front & 6 piston rear callipers finished in red. CCBs also available for the first time which are lighter: something I’m thinking of getting installed by the Welt in Germany!
New carbon roof with a “sandwiched” design, makes the car more rigid. No trim strips on it, means better acoustics, and no roof bows or insulation either. These two paired up reduce the centre of gravity. Front splitter, rear spoiler and rear diffuser work in tandem to increase downforce and channel air underneath the body.
The biggest differentiator for me however, is the inclusion of the M Adaptive suspension. It’s the only M2 to have it, and comes straight from the M4. This gives us comfort, sport and sport+ modes all with altered damper settings. Now, where we have saved weight in places this and other changes negate that to make the car the same weight as the comp.
BUT don’t write it off because of that, these additions alter the character crucially in my experience, particularly in suspension where it’s now a more compliant daily, but more rigid when you need it to be!
Today I also show you the upcoming G87 M2, spy shots show a more traditional car, and part leaks from China show a normal M grille and squared off rally car looks… I’ll discuss the engine and much more!
Will the M2 CS be the last great M? Will the Akrapovic system add the needed emotion? Today we explore:
    ⁃ M2 CS technical changes
    ⁃ Engine and power
    ⁃ Carbon fibre and weight
    ⁃ M adaptive suspension
    ⁃ Exterior design
    ⁃ Unique CS parts
    ⁃ Interior review
    ⁃ Old Exhaust sound
    ⁃ M2 CS Akrapovic Exhaust
    ⁃ EXHAUST installation at Litchfield
    ⁃ Litchfield tour
    ⁃ Next M2 G87

    ⁃ Conclusion

You cannot deny that the M2 CS is one of the most special cars that BMW have given us. I’ve got one myself but with the ceramics. The M2 cs in the South African market got the cars with a beautiful plaque, each of them numbered with the chassis number. Now I have to save up for an Akrapovic system.

I can see how some people put it in that almost “upbadging” category of modification, and obviously upbadging or faking having a higher model of car is pretty universally hated. there is no issue. yes the front splitter is made in conjunction with the rear spoiler according to bmw, they say you need both (actually they say you need the front lip if you going to put the spoiler or the front end can lift) but its not like you can't get both on your comp or OG m2. I can't with people that act like they are better than others because they have something fancier or more expensive. The CS is amazing but I am as happy with my M2 comp. Actually I might be happier because I can drive it and not worry about it, the CS, people are afraid to drive because its going up in price and a collector car. Its such a good car that I will save it for the next owner which will probably save to the next. Not Chris Harris though

How would you rate the damping between the two?
I had the F80 M3 with adaptive dampers and the damping was horrible, especially the rebound damping, it was very sketchy when pushed and the rear was all over the place.
The GT4 has much better damping tuning and is a true coil-over by Bilstein.
Maybe BMW has made improvements to their adaptive damper tuning on the M2 CS, but on my F80 M3, I had to move to Ohlin R/T's to get the rear-end to behave and for it to inspire confidence when pushed hard.

    Good video mate!
CS is a cracking car and a proper upgrade over the standard M2comp. However, I feel you've not given the comp and standard exhaust a proper chance here.
After market carbon upgrades on the standard M2's will have the same effect as whats on the cs - not sure it's 'aerodynamically optimised JUST for the cs'.
The revving of the standard exhaust is during a cold start & in efficient - my video on the stock m2c exhaust vid showcases how decent the standard exhaust can actually be! With pops and crackles too!
The Akra has been a fantastic upgrade however - makes the car fantastic once driving, being able to finally hear the car over the wind and road noise.
Future tip: Wait for the car to finish it's cold start before revving. That way you'll get the pops and crackles
Looking forward to more content on the M2cs!! 💙💙

Love all m2s but it’s not just the regs in other countries for the s55 exhaust note. It’s just not a pleasant sounding engine at all and having to shell out that ridiculous amount of money on an already expensive car for an exhaust is just silly and it still sounds bad with it. I think the only exhaust that sounds decent is the m2cs/ m3cs with m performance exhaust and that is just okay. With all that aside the f series m2 cars are just amazing in any trim that fits your fancy. For me it was a 2018 m2 lci all options with 6spd. I love the n55b 30t0 engine and exhaust is just intoxicating and I got ahold of some nice m2c seats. Making 530 at the wheels on 93 pump is more than enough for me for a carving cornering machine. My c7 z06 modded is my straight line beast.

It’s a great car, but for the price a Cayman GTS or used GT4 is better in my opinion

    • @Hapkin
      @Hapkin 3 года назад +1

Not if you want to share the experience with more than one other person or on the road where the Gt4 is simply too stiff and has it's fatal flaw of long gearing. I had more fun with the CS and I cross shopped both before going CS. M2CS has that addictive mid range torque that the GTS/GT4 don't have.

M2CS is much better on the track. Road, less of a difference but there is a difference. If you can afford it, the M2CS is better. Period.

    • @misterrisotto208
      @misterrisotto208 3 года назад +1

Stock for stock sure the CS is “better” out of the box but the 30k USD in savings from buying a Competition nets you a car that has a lot more track and weight savings potential over a CS in the aftermarket. Adaptive suspension isn’t worth the weight penalty especially after all the effort in weight reduction the CS had undergone in development to just to get a more comfy ride on the street and a more planted ride on the track. If the car was true to “CS” ethos it would have a suspension more akin to the M4 GTS/KW V3’s/Ohlins R&T. People in the comments are eating up the ///Marketing over the CS; for example, another thread claiming the CS has more power and torque. Misinformation. The CS has absolutely no changes in torque over the Competition

I personally hate everybody in the car ethus community going in on legislations, endless complaining and not finding a solution for yourself that doesn’t include removing it. What kind of f****** childish behaviour is that? Tim has shown that it can be done, if you don’t want to spend that money, then spend less on your car purchase to budget that modification. You don’t need a flash bang expensive car to be cool.

Really curious how the next generation would perform and look like. Wish you always a fun and safe ride! 🙏🏽🍀

@@f87 thank you for your respond. Yes I know what you mean. I have to add that since the new M4 is available and footage of the new M2 was shown I do think they are great cars but I would definitely buy a used F82 M4 or F87 M2, even though they look „dated“. I changed my mind a little bit, if I could afford it would be an F82 M4, rather then the F87 M2, because I do prefer the design a bit more. But both cars are bee nice! Have a great sunday!

Gee Whiz Raz... Thanks for making me feel even more demoralized (by not having gloss carbon door handles). I tried so hard to get an M2 CS to replace my M2 Comp but my dealer couldn't find me one. At the time it was about $85 new. Now their asking for over $100k w/ less than a thousand miles. I need that adaptive suspension so I'm shopping for a GTS, GT4 & Lotus Emira to replace my M2C. U have the perfect spec as well (getting CC brakes will really lighten up the corner weight if u have 15-20k). I would have tried to get a manual for that nostalgic M car driver experience but the DCT is amazing as well. Great exhaust choice!
