You nailed this review 100%, your experience matches mine. I've had a lot of eye AF false positives where the green box appears to be sticking really well but then the actual eye isn't in sharp focus when I check it later. Battery life is indeed awful but their small size and light weight means carrying a couple more isn't too much of a chore. I had to add the smallrig extended grip, without it the camera is not comfortable to hold and I often had a fear of dropping it. Menus and user interface as about as bad as pretty much every Fujifilm camera, that is to say probably the worst I've ever used. Once set up however you rarely need to go into the menus and so becomes less of an issue. If you are coming from Nikon or Canon having never used a Fuji you'll be scratching your head getting them up and running out of the box. There is plenty to like however, the built in ND is very helpful and that leaf shutter is super quiet. Even the onboard flash works well as a fill flash. Is it worth the hype, absolutely not but it's kind of fun to use and the more I use it the more I'm warming to it 🙂
Love your channel dude. Love your work. I had mine for a couple months and while it was a great camera shooting at 23mm all the time was too limiting. It took great photos but preferred my other Fuji cameras namely the X H2s or X T5. Sold my x100vi for well above what I paid for it. My fav Fujifilm is the X H2s.
Shopped X100 back in 2013-14; compelling camera. Then I found a screaming deal on a 2nd hand Sony RX1 on EBay and never looked back. Far superior results with the RX1 and smaller too! Still use it and it’s been my go-to compact for 10 years now. Best camera money I’ve ever spent.
I was pretty lucky and got it when it launched. I just put myself on a wait list for fun and then got contacted. Already had the XT5. I think the X100VI is a very appealing camera and it’s right that it kind of makes you want to pick it up and shoot with it. However, I always have this kind of feeling that I won’t be able to get “as good” shots if I would only bring the X100VI so I usually end up bringing the XT5 as well and also finding myself shooting way more with that. I think the camera shows how much it comes down to the choice of lens and how much it impacts as I also experience that the lens wide open produces really soft pictures and it is hard knowing if its due to the camera missing focus or not. Even when stepping it down I feel like the IQ is still worse than when using the XT5 with some newer XF lenses. Anyways. The form factor still makes me keeping it and my GF can use this for taking shots of me occasionally so I think I’ll be keeping both for now. If this was my only camera though, I am not sure I would be that happy. Works great as a backup secondary camera for snapshots though.
Chip shortage is hurting the camera biz. I love this camera and almost bought one but at the end of the day the price is so high I figured may as well get interchangeable lens camera. If it were cheaper it would be much harder to resist.
If you take a look at my last few videos where I took the x100vi out in Greece. I list the recipe and share the settings. I just don’t know it off by heart.
These smaller cameras are really great, the big problem for me is the price. Maybe I will shop for an older X100 series or even an XE series at some point. Love your images!!
I wish they were able to fit this new big battery in it. Because this big battery last forever and I mean forever. I have a second battery for XT5 but I am never able to run through the first one. I was stupid to sell X100V before the big hooplah, I should have of course held on to it. It is said that X100VI may go the way of X100V where Fuji will never have it in stock and move on to the next model.
I agree with your overall assessment. IMHO, the lens is not adequate for this sensor, the autofocus is poor, and I think that this is over-hyped. It looks “cool” but that does not cut it for a camera this expensive. I was hoping that this would be a good EDC camera but I am sticking to my Leica M10R (much more expensive) and my older Leica D-Lux Type 109. Based upon my use of the 12 mp Leica D-Lux, it takes better pictures than the Fuji X100VI. (I also still use a Fuji XT2 that I like a lot for the form factor and the ability to use interchangeable lenses).
The lens was redesigned with the outgoing x100V and resolves details fine - interchangeable systems don’t get new lenses with every new generation of camera. Been using the VI since release and it’s tack sharp, even when using the digital Tele converter. Previously owned the V.
I blame tiktok and all the cool kids for hyping this camera up, what are your thoughts on the Ricoh gr iii? I think I’m going to look into that camera next.
I love this camera, but yeah, the AF is not good. I had the x pro3 before and the AF did improve over my x pro3 but now I also got the xh2 and DAMN! That's some fast and reliable AF which makes me look different on my x100vi. The AF can take like a second to hit some times and that's annoying and my biggest critique. I am fine with the battery, but I would have wished for a better limited edition than the bullshit Fuji pulled. Why not a Premium limited edition with duratect coating and overall more premium build? I know Fuji can't even make enough cameras, but pls do something like Rico and drop a x100vi with a 35mm lens. I think the digital converter works fairly well and I sold my TCL adapter after a few days. Oh, and mafucka!!! Your images are straight fire. Well done, brother!
The lens on the X100 has always been a bit soft…no mist needed 😂 Yes - the battery too is overdue for an upgrade. AF SUCKS (for $2k). I’d only consider the GFX series (or Instax) with Fuji.
I’m just stoked this did get overhyped so if other companies weren’t making rangefinder-like cameras, they probably will now. I’m just going to save my money for X Pro 4 hopium. I’m sick of carrying my DSLR…
Great photos 😍but... great camera? Those photos are amazing because of you. I think i still prefer xt5 + sigma 18-50 for travelling (with npw235, i didnt understand that too...) rather than x100vi, which is, by the way, a schrodinger catmera, you dont really know if the camera does really exist 😅 11:11 fuji being fuji 🤔
Yeah - I think this camera should have gotten a new lens. After all, this lens wasn’t on the list of lenses that could resolve the sensor, if I’m not mistaken
Fujifilm is constantly increasing the price of cameras. But they doesn't deliver the corresponding value for money. Just because a camera looks cool or retro doesn't automatically make it a must-have item. The fact that the Camera need an outdated battery - NP-W126s - (from 2016) is a bad joke. And again, the autofocus is inadequate. At a price of €1799, the lens has to be perfect too. Result: totally overhyped. (My opinion).
Imagine buying this camera and being disappointed that it doesn't have peak AF and IQ. That's not what it's for. You know this, and I know that you know this. Your disappointment in Fujifilm AF has consumed you. . .
Its ridiculous how it is selling at the same price as nikon zf with the kit lens. I agree its bulky but you can do a lot with it. Don't get me wrong i love the compactness and the sims but the fuji creating these artificial demand and they are way overpriced and it has even translated to the affordable lineup like xt50 at this point fuji getting too greedy. I am wishing sony to launch an a7rv sensor in an fixed camera body and beat the sh*t out of fuji.
Weight difference of the X-T5 with XF 27 F2.8 versus the X100VI is .27 lbs......that 4 oz. is the difference between fun and not fun? I'd say save the $2000 and stick with the X-T5 if that's what you have or get an X-T5 in your hands right now and carry another 4 oz. instead of waiting and hoping you get an X100VI.

@@JMDickeyArts Why did you choose the 27mm lens when the x100 has a 23mm lens? Because it wouldn’t fit your narrative. The 23mm f2 is 180 grams vs the 84 grams of the 27mm. The x100v also has a max aperture of f2 vs the 27mm of 2.8. How are you calculating a $2,000 savings by choosing the XT5 with the 27mm over the x100vi? The XT5 plus 27mm is $2,000. The x100vi is $1,600. You pay $400 more for the XT5 with the incorrectly compared lens.

Is the Fujifilm X100vi overhyped?👇
yes
Absolutely
Yes, 💯
And over hipstered 😂
100%
Regardless of the camera in your hands, your photo-style is amazing!
Thank you 😭
I appreciate the honest review 👌 I ordered mine 22hrs after it launched (in February) and was told I might get it at end of December! 😳
BRO 10 MONTHS LATER?! WTF thats wild
If you haven't yet try local. I ordered march 3rd and got mine two weeks ago.

I'm glad you're warming up to it. I think it's a capable camera, but the hype on social media has put me off a bit.

it's crazy how expensive that camera is still going for!
Great video! :) Will be getting my X100vi next weekend. Would you share the recipes you used? Your Greece pictures look beautiful!
Yes of course! Video soon!
I think it would be prudent to opt for the x-e or x-pro series, similar-ish feels, but cheaper, +you can change lenses.

That’s got to be the quote of the week - “the reason why I love fall so much …… is because everyone just gets productive again.” 😂
Haha but its true though! I was slacking off so much in the summer!
Congratz on the sponsor! 🎉
Thank you!! 😁
Great review and fantastic photos. Did you end up keeping it? Sell it? Jump back up the V?
The V is not worth the resale price. Might as well buy the vi for updated specs
Does it tend to get warm like x100v?
Yep.
Yes it does get warm
It does
Maybe I missed it but did you prefer the optical viewfinder, EVF, or the back screen the most?
I prefer back screen more.

I got really lucky with mine, I pre-ordered from a local store back in late April and received it late June.
Dang you one of the lucky ones!
What is the camera neck strap you are using in this video?
Wotancraft Camera Straps- geni.us/TR3inP
Nice.... How do you class this camera to your X-S20?
I prefer the xs20 shooting experience. Its just more my style haha..
Thanks, I am about to pull the plug on one to replace my Sony RX100. Thanks for sharing your experiences, and your quick response.
Do you have a list of the film sims you were using? Great images

I had the X100VI and the joystick up direction stopped working. Is this is a common issue?
Nah, not common man. Didn’t run into that issue

I like the cam really, but he is not a pro cam. I used it at my last vaccation and had a lot of focus problems for people, even in darker situations.
ya this F2 lens really needs to be revamped.
