    Fun thing: when I played fe1 for the first time I diddnt use marth after the first few chapters. Which meant my only way to kill medeus was to keep chipping him, getting 1 exp each time, until marth levelled up strength twice which gave him just enough damage so that medeus couldn't heal off all the damage he did. As someone who played a lot of awakening , Chrom is in a pretty funny spot. He is a pretty decent lord by himself, but he is stuck in arguably the most broken fire emblem game. A "very good" unit like chrom gets overshadowed by Robin at the get-go, and later on gets overshadowed by whatever units you decided to give galeforce to.

    I find the comparison of Roy and PoR Ike to be fascinating, because it is true that they are very similar. Both are sword locked units that are very mediocre in the mid-game. And yet, most players experiencing FE6 for the first time regard Roy as garbage, while most experiencing FE9 for the first time regard Ike as being busted. And I think it's interesting to analyze why that might happen. In addition to the actual reasons Ike is better than Roy that Mekkah mentions, I think there are some other reasons he makes a stronger impression. To be clear, none of this is meant to be arguments about actual utility, it's more looking at it from a "unit-feel" kind of perspective.
    For one, FE9 encourages you to train Ike in the early chapters a lot more than FE6 encourages training Roy. In FE6, you always have Lance and Allen, who other than using the Rapier, generally can do anything Roy can do and often do it better. They're easier to use than Roy, and good units to feed exp to. Whereas in FE9, Ike is your only earlygame sword user. The other earlygame units it might make sense to feed exp to like Oscar and Boyd aren't always around, because you don't have control of deployment in the early chapters of FE9 -- in chapter 3, for instance, you are locked to Ike, Titania, Shinon, and Gatrie, so Ike is the only one you particularly care about leveling in that chapter. And Ike is around for all the early chapters. This gives him more chances to get exp than other units, and also encourages feeding him on the logic of "well, I know I'm always going to have Ike for every chapter." It's also this logic that I think makes most players give him the Angelic robe you get in Chapter 1. Even the narrative feels like it's encouraging you to train Ike, portraying him as a fledgling swordsman with a lot of potential.
    For two, there's a weird thing where swords are good in FE6, but awful in FE9. You'd think that would be a point against Ike, but it's more complicated than that. The obvious characters to compare Ike to in PoR are the other sword locked units in the game. And of those...Mia is really bad, Zihark is very mediocre, and Stefan doesn't exist unless you're using a strategy guide. Even Makalov, with his mount and access to the Knight Ward, feels very underwhelming. The only really good unit that uses swords in PoR is Tanith, but she's also got A rank Lances to use too. Swords are just really bad in FE9, but it tends to give Ike a pseudo-monopoly on them. Weapons like the Laguz Slayer can end up feeling like Ike's personal weapons, and it makes Ike feel like he has more of niche when he's the only one with weapon triangle against certain units. And if you do end up using other sword units like Mia, then that also can make Ike look good, because he'll often do a better job than her, depending on where you are in the game. Roy, meanwhile, compares badly to other sword-users in his game. Roy has to contend with comparisons to units like Rutger, Dieck, and the cavaliers.
    For three, there are various little reasons. Both the Ragnell and the Binding Blade are really good, but the fact that the Ragnell is infinite use means Ike gets a chance to obliterate everything in the last 2 chapters if you want him to. Roy has enough Binding Blade uses to get through the endgame chapters, but its limited uses means Roy can't really go ham with it the way Ike can, which makes him feel a lot more niche rather than busted. Especially since a decent number of uses tend to get used up just trying to train Roy as he's just promoted, whereas Ike is already probably leveled up. Ike can also get Aether, which while it isn't that amazing in the grand scheme of things, is cool, unique to him, and strictly better than other unique skills other classes get. It also makes solo'ing the endgame chapters with Ragnell much more brainless, since it allows Ike to self-heal against 1-range enemies. Ike also has access to bonus exp if the player ever feels like he's fallen behind (and he probably will around when he promotes), while Roy does not.

    • @thomaswood8405
      @thomaswood8405 2 года назад +69

      I really think there's a lot more simple of an explanation for this. FE6 is just way harder than FE9. Players naturally want to train the MC, and FE9 is easy enough that if you stack Ike you can still clobber the game even with all of his downsides, while FE6 will absolutely punish you for it. You can solo FE9 with Ike. Can you solo FE6 with anyone?

    • @madwaltz9812
      @madwaltz9812 2 года назад +48

      @@thomaswood8405 That's a good point; that's definitely a part of it too. But I think there's definitely more to it than just that. I've rarely ever seen anyone say that Eirika is a totally busted lord for instance, and I consider Sacred Stones and PoR to be of a fairly comparable difficulty. And speaking personally, when I played FE7 for the very first time as a total noob on the very easy Lyn Normal ---> Eliwood Normal mode, my impression was that Eliwood was bad, even though I trained him, which I think is a common new player impression.
      And while I doubt Roy can solo FE6 hard or even normal mode, I suspect he can carry significantly harder than most people think he can. I remember Raisins talking about his run where most of the good characters were not available to use, and some of the things he was saying Roy could do were pretty surprising. But I'm not really an expert on FE6, so maybe I'm off-base.

      You forgot to mention Lucia in the list of other sword units in FE9... But I don't blame you because everyone forgets about her :(
      And also more seriously, Lucia isn't worth thinking about as she might be competing with Rolf as the worst unit in the game, and possibly one of the worst units in the series. Though if we're also considering decent units with swords, I guess there's also Elincia, but she's more of a flying staff bot than anything else.
      But yeah, there's a lot of psychological factors that make PoR Ike a lot more palatable for the average player compared to Roy.

    • @thomaswood8405
      @thomaswood8405 2 года назад +8

      @@madwaltz9812 Eliwood was considered bad for a long time, anyone remember Elisuss lmao?, but I think that's because new players latched on to Lyn as their main character. She was thought to be a good unit for a long time, and there's very clearly a lot of waifuism about her, even today.
      As for Eirika....idk she feels so anomalous. Even from a casual perspective, normal mode and full grinding, not many were on team Eirika. She was probably overshadowed by her brother who is a very powerful unit on his own. I don't recall Eirika being weak to be a very loud opinion at least. It's not like we didn't have our own share of bad SS takes at the time either. L'arachel being top tier I remember was quite the common opinion.

    Honestly, I wouldn't mind a WAIFU on Seliph at some point, because he's such an interesting unit to talk about. On the one hand yes, he's absolutely the best recipient of all the resources and exp in the game which makes him a god.
    On the other hand though... It's a very precise, specific build that requires advanced knowledge and preparation to get going. The casual, average player is not going to do that, which in turn brings his performance down. Hell, even if you do know about it, there's a good chance you just don't wanna do it because having Seliph slaughter chapter 6 by himself is really, REALLY boring and uninteresting.
    I feel like it'd be interesting to analyse him in both contexts, both with all the favouritism and without.

    • @vanjagalovic3621
      @vanjagalovic3621 2 года назад +10

      The thing is that Sigurd is head and shoulders above any other character in gen 1 and he just kills every boss and enemy, which leads into him getting more resources and is the best user of weapins like the brave sword. So, Seliph not getting a ton of rings and weapons already implies not playing optimally

    • @wannabecinnabon

      @@vanjagalovic3621 It's not like Gen 1 doesn't have any other useful units, though. Lex and whoever gets the Brave Lance will also absolutely kill stuff dead. Siggy's unquestionably the best but I wouldn't say he naturally gets everything Seliph needs just by killing stuff, you kind of need to go out of your way to make sure he ends up with the Paragon Ring and Leg Ring. (Leg Ring in particular is dropped by a boss on the other side of the map of the last castle he seized...)

    • @14bj337
      @14bj337 2 года назад +7

      @@vanjagalovic3621 Depends on what you're going for "optimally". If you're doing a ranked run, then you don't want Sigurd getting all the kills, because you need to spread the experience around. Sigurd is still an excellent unit in such a context, but "pseudo-Sigurd-solo" just isn't an option. Finn (with the Brave Lance) and Quan (with the Silver Lance) tend to have the easiest time getting the Paragon Band, too, although Sigurd can buy it off of him. Also something like "Sigurd buying the Knight Ring" makes no sense for players who don't know what's coming, because it gives him zero immediate benefit.

    I feel like Eirika is a weird one to judge because if you are going Ephraim route, I think she should be above Roy because the game takes out the worst part of using her and gives you a few free levels, potentially enough to easily promote her and get access to her pretty solid promoted class plus Sieglinde, like you mentioned. A barely touched Eirika gets a pretty good lategame all things considered, probably better than an untrained Roy would. I feel that they both have a support advantage so that balances them out - Eirika is just best off supporting Ephraim/Seth/Tana and they are all stellar units. Staves would make his FE4 Prince class more like Lachesis's Princess class and let him inherit properly from Ethlyn, but would just make him worse Nanna in Thracia (except for fatigue and supports), while Light magic would be a cool thing that like no one else in Thracia has a good use for, and would keep his Prince class offense-focused like I think they want, considering Nanna has healing covered and Leif's personality. Also saying that Eirika doesn't need to be deployed so her combat increase doesn't matter is like ranking all characters low in sacred stones due to how they steal exp for Seth to solo the entire game.

  • @blademasterfe2227
    @blademasterfe2227 2 года назад +39

    My general experience with Awakening "tiering" is that it's only done in hard mode since lunatic mode can be too intimidating for people and most people want to avoid it/not play it without using the most cheesy strategies. I only discovered my new favored clear for chapter 2 lunatic after replaying Awakening a bit when you did your recent LP, and it was a method I hadn't seen before in the past. As such, I generally tend to think the awakening meta isn't very well developed beyond Avatar OP, Frederick, Nosferatu, Nowi/Panne, Galeforce, rescue and second seals good. Of course, I'm pretty rusty in my knowledge of the game as well.
    Either way, I'd say Chrom could go in A or B tier. He's better used as Pair up fodder in most cases, to the point where I'd argue optimal play is that he's largely only used as pair up fodder for Robin, as he'll let units hit doubling thresholds they might otherwise miss early on or let the unit in question become an unkillable juggernaut like Robin does(though that isn't completely unique to Chrom), but his effective weapons can also really help him pack a punch in early game. Being able to second seal into cavalier is also nice.
    His usefulness can also depend on what replay bonuses you allow yourself to use, but I generally think the biggest flaw he has as a combat unit is that his HP can feel kinda low. Otherwise, like almost any awakening unit, give him enough exp and he'll be more than good to go.

    • @ultrose7379
      @ultrose7379 2 года назад +6

      I think chrom’s hp is fine it’s average for an awakening character so 85% his biggest issue is that he’s just such a good support unit with his access to cav which has 2 great support skills along with his dual atk+ is pretty strong. Honestly a better support unit then Olivia. I would say I’m comparison to the other top units on this list he’s A tier but I would say he’s S in awakening because he’s got really good support abilities

      @@ultrose7379 it's more just female robin is more an offense unit and male is support, male robin has some quirks like being able to get a more solid set of children characters to add to your team with little effort as well as 2 morgans allowing more fleixbilty (of course pick a wife that has a child come in on a good chapter and can join early on). Robin!Lucina I find overrated as she is still pretty good with a few other mothers like sumia but also she has acess to a good enough list of skills to use that trying to add the benefits of robin makes her a bit bloated

    • @ultrose7379
      @ultrose7379 2 года назад +1

      @@nightwish1453 your right in that if you compared all the full potential of kids that lucina has the least to gain from Robin since sumia!lucina is also quite strong but the other kids don’t have the quirks that make Robin lucina so great, at least in an ltc. In an ltc or just playing the game with very few pit stops you don’t get any kids who aren’t named lucina and Morgan. Part of what makes Robin so great is the ability to completely overlevel without any grinding very quickly due to veteran. So Robin can grab any skills they want quickly right? Robin!Lucina doesn’t only just get the pick of any skills she wants (optimal galeforce and it’s not that tough due to how fast robin levels with the high exp floor) also due to the overleveling lucina gets huge bases (like any of robins kids) which she won’t have without more grinding for sumia and tons of grinding for maribelle and Olivia. She’s the only kid you get in the main story which is great when your trying to go fast, and this leans into why chrom s support is so great, it’s not only chrom is a great support unit, he’s the earliest s rank with the easiest to access child so it’s a marriage of connivence since you never lose your great support partner to build support with someone else and you get the earliest kid so it’s a win win. Male Robin struggles in that his earliest option In lissa is that her kid is on valm (same issue goes for sumia) so the best options would probably be sully, and Cordelia. Which isn’t exactly much variety. And Cordelia has the issue with how servera’s chapter plays so it would probably be silly who you would go for and she def isn’t getting galeforce inheritance so she has to get it on her own. And I also wouldn’t call male robin more of a support unit compared to female robin. Robin is the best lead bar their kids for a main story playthrough and if you did focus on making them support units female robin would still be better then him thanks to better support skill and support class across with dual support plus, rally movement and falcon knight and Valkyrie. Male robin just doesn’t either roles as well has female robin, he ends up being support more because he doesn’t do offense as well and he wants his wife to get galeforce if she has access to it. Obviously if you don’t care about speed then most of this doesn’t matter but with speed in mind she beats male Robin in every aspect. I’m not saying make robin is bad by any means as he’s still the best unit in awakening when you choose him instead of female. but he works a lot differently and slower then female

    Something fun for FE7 is the difference double vs triple effectiveness has in the game. It does marginally change how the early game lords can contribute. Hector gets better, Eliwood can be useful in supporting Hector and can hold his own a bit better in the Laus maps. Lyn can effectively take out enemies too, but she’s more likely to suffer from success if she’s choking a point. Although it could give her an edge in promoting first to allow for bow usage in the Vaida map against wyverns. I don’t think it would change their placements at all since combat is only part of what makes or breaks a unit. Still, fun to consider.

    I think Path of Radiance Ike is usable early game, especially if his level-ups are good, but the issue with Ike in the mid+late game is that everything is dead by the time he gets there. Even with Ragnell, he's just too slow to get anywhere. The mounted units are just so strong. Even babying Astrid feels better than using Ike because the payoff for Astrid is just so much stronger. Makalov and Astrid can be babied and then turned into axe paladins, and then they can keep up with the slaughter.
    It's remedied a bit by being carried, but I feel he's not as durable as the paladins and fliers either, and swords aren't as good as axes, which only Marcia and Tanith can't use. But Marcia and Tanith can use lances, which are also better than swords.
    Hector also suffers a lot from not being able to catch up to the action, and that's kinda why I feel he's very similar to Ike. I think he's definitely stronger; I find Hector is extremely reliable early game. But carrying a promoted Hector around isn't easy. I think only Rath can do it promoted, and Rath is kinda meh. I think I'd rather use my mounted units offensively and use the rescue drop chains to keep Ninian up with the mounted units than have Hector on the front lines.

    Ah yes... Leif getting credit. Love seeing it. Most people pass on him for his shoddy bases, mediocre growths and late promotion. On paper, he's very bad but Thracia also has player characters as well as enemies with really low stats at the start but doesn't mean much. He's more durable than Lyn, Eliwood, Roy or PoR Ike due to his 22 HP. Enemy non axe users only do 8-10 damage and surviving 2 hits is quite good. His 60 use lightbrand is great even if he doesn't have magic (neither do enemies) but where Leif really shines is the Manster arch. The game resets back to lvl 1 enemies and characters but Leif will be ~6-8 depending how much use he got and this makes him one of the stronger characters. Sure, he's a few levels ahead but those missions are quite difficult and Leaf is there. Mid-game is fine as enemies come in greater quantity and less in quality, some supports and... that's it. He's not great but hey, he has his utility.
    Unlike Roy. I've played Binding Blade so much but it has to be a law of physics that he is mediocre at his best and useless at the worst spots. Unlike Eliwood, he faces axe users but it doesn't matter when they have 40 display hit and do 12 damage, effectively 2 shotting him. His rapier meets armours with really high defense and the cavaliers one wants to take out fast also mostly wield lances and Roy will also be stuck at around 80 display hit. His bases are pretty low... (his durability is the same as Shanna's) and 5 strength with swords is beyond bad. The most important growths in strength, speed and defense are 40/40/25, while he has good luck, skill and res... yay for that I guess?
    Roy's main problem is not the same shoddy stat/growth layout as Eliwood but more that the enemies are just so tough while other characters can still handle them quite well. Enemies usually bring 9 or 10 speed to the table when they don't wield lances and Roy is in this awkward spot where his speed is just low enough that he doesn't double but bringing strength to the table that need him to double for effective damage. The only time he performs well is when transitioning to the western island against all those pirates (luck actually does pull weight here!). But beyond this, he slows everyone down again. His late-late-LATE game is great. But with 20 uses on the binding blade, one has to use a silver sword and his performance when most units double while he doesn't, give flashbacks to the first couple chapters again. It's also when most units already carry the team so having another one is not needed. The manaketes are also really weak and so are the 2 (final)-bosses. He is a huge liability in the midgame that throw long range stuff at the player and those siege tomes hit really hard.
    As someone who played Radiant Dawn an unhealthy amount, I think the assessment of Micaiah is very accurate. Good staff bot but otherwise... thing is, she is very lop-sided on her growths. I don't think she should be trained past ~lvl 12. Magic is her only important stat. Speed will always remain terrible and so will be her endurance.
    Ike does surprise me though. He is as good of a combat unit as one could be in Radiant Dawn. 1-2 range, infinite use weapon somewhat early, good stats, good caps, good affinity, really solid base lvl/stats, good promotion timing... it's really just that Haar is so far ahead of everyone else. Not sure how much the presence of Haar should influence the rating of Ike as there is a major gap between him and most other units, much like there is between Haar and him. He doesn't carry the game as hard as Sigurd but I couldn't think of other units that perform better than him. Except for magic, nothing can really threaten him (and mages have been nerfed to the ground in RD) and it's not a very mobility reliant game, bar chapter 10 (with Elincia as green unit) where one really needs to move fast.
    Also... Celica in Gaiden really was about accuracy. May had no speed growth and only thunder magic (70% 1 RN accuracy, yay!) and Boey was also pretty mediocre with fire. Problem with mages in Gaiden was their really high promotion threshold at lvl 18 I think? Most classes promoteat around lvl 7, meaning that growths were more important for mages and thus, Celica was pretty alright with accurate magic.

      Agreed on Ike, he should be S above the Marths. Haar may be better in Dawn but Haar is so overpowered he should just create his own SS tier there - the laguz royals, Jill and Ike shouldn't suffer for Haars success, they are all S tier units too.

    Something not mentioned with FE11 Marth is that he faces perpetual weapon triangle disadvantage by being sword-locked (which didn't exist in the original Shadow Dragon), given the majority of the enemies are lance users and axe users go nearly extinct after chapter 4. So he often doesn't get to utilize the crucial might bonuses he gets from his Sword weapon rank, while after the first few chapters he can basically never nullify the enemies' weapon rank bonuses (which with all enemies having A weapon rank on Hard 5, being able to nullify those bonuses can often mean being able to take another hit).

    I would say RD Ike is definitely S tier as I think the gap between Haar and Ike is frankly not that big. Ike isn't signficantly worse than Haar if at all. The only signficant advantage Haar really has over Ike is the ability to fly, which is very relevant for alot of Part 3 maps. However, Ike is objectively better from a combat perspective, since he doubles and one-rounds much more consistently in general while also being a better tank due to having more evasiveness. Even if Haar can also double, he still requires some form of investment to do so, and although it's not significant by any means, it doesn't really change the fact that he'll still end up with mediocre speed towards the end of the game, where he's moreso a filler unit at that point. The speed advantage Ike has over Haar can be just as relevant as Haar's ability to fly depending on the situation. Haar does have a few other advantages like being able to promote earlier and having access to axes and lances, but Ike still evens things out by having early access to Ragnell and also promoting at a reasonable point in the game. While I believe Haar is the best unit in Part 3, Ike isn't far behind in terms of relative performance either (still top 3 at worst) and ends up being the overall best unit towards the end of the game, even compared to laguz royals because they don't have access to 1-2 range. It's important to note that of all the lords on this list, RD Ike probably requires the least amount of investment (asides from maybe Sigurd). Iirc Dondon has even finished RD on 0% growths, and I've noticed how Ike is still essential yet more than useable as a single speedwing is enough for him to 1 v 1 the Black Knight. Barring movement, he's not really any different from Sigurd. Both have a combination of top-tier bases, fantastic availability, and incredible ceiling. RD also has a cast of 70+ characters, which is larger than most FE games, so Ike's competition with Haar isn't much of a detriment.

    I think you can argue that Alm in Echoes is S-Tier, as yes he slows down in Act 3 but he makes up for by getting the Royal Sword which has the Double Lion weapon art that just mashes nearly anything in his way. By the time I got to act 4 and Alm promoted he just started hammering everything, nothing could survive a player phase from him and very little could even survive enemy phase.

    My opinions are often ridiculous, so why not?
    First off the list, not even going to talk about Corrin. Fates took everything in Awakening and nerfed it into the ground. Self-insert? Fates may just be designed to be tougher, but I find myself struggling to keep a fairly balanced team, and pumping all my effort into a character I don't like and see as a bit too much of a everyman/everywoman.
    Now we can get into the meatier talk. I haven't used FE1 or FE3 Marth, nor FE11. Haven't played those, but based off FE12 (thank Naga for emulators, right?), I'd say that Marth is exceptional. Good bases, good growths, good utility... What's to complain about? Given the Fire Emblem's use as a lockpick in FE12, he's really going to be off the beaten path, but if you play it right, he can get in, deal some damage and lure the enemies towards his goal before filing them all out.
    Gaiden is also unplayed, but SoV has made an impression. It has a strange combat system to me, but it also has a lot going on besides that. Alm and Celica are practically the set pieces of their respective groups, and while there are so many mages lying around and not enough Res growths to be had, these two can seriously bring the hurt while managing to keep the enemies from doing the same to them. Sure, I'm not exactly a master, but I can get by.
    Sigurd, Seliph and Leif. Sigurd is a freaking god. He just does everything you could need him to with his base kit. If he dies while you're playing, you should know by that point that you've seriously screwed up, he's that close to untouchable. Seliph and Leif I haven't gotten to use as much, I haven't gotten through to their endgames yet, but given I've done a little research, they aren't going to end up bad.
    Roy. Hoo boy. If not for they who I refuse to acknowledge, he might catch the flak. Not an astounding unit, but there is still use for him. Like his father, he's made of sterner stuff than he looks to be. He's shaky, and since his promotion is so late, he does struggle if you don't monitor him carefully. I'd say he's a good lord.
    The International Trio. Yes, the first three lords to see sunlight outside of Japan are the International Trio. For that reason (beyond the fact that I played FE7 first) gives me a bit of bias to them. Lyn did struggle a little, but I poured effort into her during Lyn mode, when I wasn't pouring it into Dorcas. Eliwood in my first playthrough went woefully underused, worsened by the fact that every first FE7 play is Eliwood mode, where he needs a good amount of use to not be his son. Once Hector hit though... That was it. Hector essentially became my go-to. Blew that playthrough outta the water for me. Like the rest of the International Trio, he struggled at first, but effort is effort, and he got scary fast for me. Didn't stop me from enjoying Guy or Wil or Lucius, though.
    Eirika and Ephriam are kinda weird to me. Eirika basically served no purpose to me, just keep her alive and that was that. Ephriam filled the vaguely Hector-shaped hole in my Fire Emblem life, and he worked wonders, massacred basically everything. He fit the Hector archetype, but the story of Sacred Stones kinda shoehorned him into it, but given the success that Hector was, I don't blame Nintendo or Int Sys for that.
    Ikes: They're great. Like Roy, but his bases aren't quite as bad, nor are his growths quite as shaky. Then again, I got lucky and his speed capped in PoR, maybe strength and HP as well. That translated over well in the transfer. But I haven't gotten to the good parts of RD, so he and Micaiah haven't grown much, nor have they grown on me as much as PoR Ike. Both Ikes are Hectors for sure.
    Chrom: The moment you get a Master Seal, boom, promotable. If you've leveled nicely, something doable, you can reclass instead, make him good that way too. Kinda fits the Hector archetype, too. Might even do it better than Hector, but Awakening is kinda easy. The only times I lost are Apotheosis or when I underestimated the survivability of an undertrained Robin or Chrom.
    Three Lords: Not even limited in classes as badly as Chrom is, they can all get magic. All of them hold a high position in my mind, as they can do basically anything you want them to if you invest in such properly, not to mention the Lord class gets Res +2 on mastery something they all might want. And of course, each is unparalleled in their niches compared to the others. And they easily make for my favorite Lords, a hard thing to lay claim to given Hector, Ike and Lyn.

    I think Hector and Ephraim are placed pretty jankily relative to each other. Hector has real, tangible contributions in FE7, but Ephraim can't really claim to have that in FE8 when he doesn't exist for 1/3 of the game and is lol 5 move until Chapter 17, which is after the point Warp and Boots are obtained. Ephraim is pretty whatever for the entire game in an optimized setting, but even if you give him credit for being good in less optimized settings, how does that put him a tier ahead of Hector? Hector can still contribute beyond Chapter 20 (after which he's only marginally worse than Ephraim is from Chapters 9-16 in optimized settings), but he had Chapters 11-16 where he was great and 17-20 where he was okay (and Ephraim has no such period to his name). Hector > Ephraim easily, but for a not hyper-optimized setting, B tier for both would make sense.
    This is assuming Ephraim's placement is based on his own route alone; Ephraim in Eirika route belongs in D tier tbh.

      you just need to feed ephraim once (ch5x) and he's off and running with high str/spe cause good bases + growths; and his utility lets him reliably deal with all enemies if you go eph route and feed cavs to him in his rejoin chap in ch8. he's never dead weight and is always fulfilling some objective and you can also toss ephraim into a bunch of units with a javelin even on eph!hm and expect him to clear them, he's pretty good on ghost ship which is fe8's probably hardest map? arguably you have duessel cormag seth but mountless playthroughs exist (atleast in eph!nm) in which ephraim carries almost singlehandedly. plus he gets a horse on promotion and though there's only one seize map post-promotion if you're not cheesing with warp/fliers ephraim eats all of ch20 single-handedly on horse. Compare with Hector's ch31(? i think, limstella one); fe8 maps and enemies are def easier than fe7's, but saying ephraim has no contribution when you can reasonably solo the game with him after he joins with some support is not doing him justice

    • @ametaslave7314
      @ametaslave7314 2 года назад +1

      @@litteleven7257 If you're willing to turtle feed Ephraim, why not feed Kyle or Forde instead? Ephraim is only getting worthwhile EXP out of that map if you dedicate an entire map's worth of EXP to him (which is not only slower than using Orson religiously but is also feeding EXP to a unit that has direct competition for it who could make better use of it arguably). Ephraim is whatever in optimized settings and pretty good in unoptimized ones, but anyone can at least be ok in unoptimized settings, so that shouldn't be a huge point over Hector, who's solid either way.
      You can probably solo the game from Chapter 9 onward with Gilliam if you really wanted to. Does that make Gilliam a B tier unit?

    • @arman_llc624
      @arman_llc624 2 года назад +2

      @@ametaslave7314 Yo do realize ephraim has much better stats then kyle and forde? His personal weapon is also really strong for the early game. Combined with his high growths, He can one round most enemies. Eprhaim in the late game also has a very real chance of being your second best unit after your flyer and your best unit in terms of raw combat where as hector is cursed with the 5 move penalty and I had cases where my hector struggeled to one round because he couldn’t double. I agree hector does have a better early game because your other units are shit, but ephraim overwall contributes way more.

    • @ametaslave7314
      @ametaslave7314 2 года назад

      @@arman_llc624 Having good stats is hardly a redeeming quality when you're in an army with Seth and Cormag and have 5 move.
      Ephraim is pretty worthless on the ~5 maps he spends promoted:
      17: Warp-skip
      18: Can do stuff but doesn't fly, so can't reach eggs as quickly as others
      19: Warp-skip
      20: Warp-skip
      Endgame: Warp-skip
      Demon King: Could maybe chip in somehow? Not particularly noteworthy here either.
      Ultimately, when you compare Ephraim and Hector, it's best to compare their performance unpromoted, but Hector still wins here because Ephraim misses 1/3 of the game. Hector has 11, 12, and 14 where he's good (even if all your non-Marcus units are trash tbf) and then his existence is still worth something until after Chapter 20, after which he's about on par with Ephraim, who is locked to 5 move and is unlikely to kill stuff outside of 1 range, the same as Hector due to the presence of the Brave Axe.
      I'd buy the idea that Ephraim's midgame is better than Hector's, but Hector peaks in the early-game, and Ephraim has none to speak of. Ephraim's endgame is definitely better than Hector's, but he's still mediocre there.
      Keep in mind I'm taking all this from Ephraim's best-case scenario: his own route rather than Eirika's where he doesn't exist for 2/3 of the game and exists solely in the post-Warp section of the game.
