      @@algorithmgeneratedanimegir1286 It's not really a surprise for the French version, from what I remember, before the "boom" of manga/anime in the USA/NA from recent years, France was the second country behind Japan in terms of readers/purchase of manga. And according to Wikipedia: "France represents about 40% of the European comic market and in 2011, manga represented 40% of the comics being published in the country." In the 80-90' up to the 2000, anime was bought for TV and there were even French-Japanese collaborations of them ("Ulysses 31" or "Mysterious Cities of Gold" for example). I would also think that censorship in the USA could have been another reason why, but maybe some English publisher could pick it up now I guess.

    • @v.e.l.pianist7848

      The costs to do so are incredibly high and it is not guaranteed to be a hit too, so best case scenario a minor studio could animate enough of the story to act as an inspiration to read the source material. The danger of getting legal suits placed on your studio for defamation etc deincentivize this investment though... rather pray that it stays without adaptation as it'll no question get turned down in its defining aspects aswell as/or pushed in current-socio-political directions it never had anything to do with and thereby ruined.

      It is actually a genre. In Japanese it's called "ざまぁ" (Zamaa), an abbreviation from "様を見ろ" what means "Serves you right". It is a pretty pupular tag on, for example, shousetsuka ni narou.

    I can easily see the point why this can't be made into an anime and broadcasted on TV. Considering the current state of affairs in Japan, since their current government is not well received at all, it could cause quite a bit of controversy.

      @@HydraSpectre1138Netflix maybe but it still will get a big attention enough for it to be controversial and OVAs are not something studios are willing to make much nowadays because it isn't the 80's anymore where you can spend as much on it because they were mostly passion projects.

    Great video. I think an adaptation of that is only viable IMHO if not just the violence is toned down but if the corrupt government/business/criminal group does not resemble real-people and/or done in a very cartoonish way (Mr. Robot comes to mind). Also, feels like this manga feels part of the overall extreme stuff coming out of Japan at that (Battle Royale & Ichi the Killer for example) even if the discontent and disillusionment with the way democracy works in Japan (or in other places, just can pick one country) continues but has increased. They would rather do something more akin to Eden of the East or using something else as base (like Shin Gojira did)

    As long as there is free will, there will always be evil. But denying free will is also evil
    I would rather like to see this manga have a more psychological and philosophical approach of evil. One thing I can point out is that it lacks some notable villain characters like the more calculative ones who pushes the main character to questioning his own morality and purpose of approaching evil while he also ends up killing or destroying the life of innocent people on his self-righteous crusade. A good example can be Rooftop Swordmaster where the main character attempts to punish all the evil only to end up involving innocents. Another to point out is that the manga did not show the prisoners on death row, terrorist groups, doomsday cults or hardcore criminals who are not lawyers, bankers, or politicians because evil also exist underground and not in spotlights. Frankly, I think the main character's own agenda was to target politicians, lawyers, and bankers which not caring about the ones underground can be considered evil. One thing to question the main character's acts is that does his method lead a civilization to prosperity and paradise? Or desolation and hell? Because the only way to destroy evil, is to rule it with fear. And fear, is also evil.

  • @youngthinker1

    I remembered reading this when it first came out and not really understanding the context around it. I thought politicians acting like scum was the norm, especially when they are far removed from common man. (The police schemes taught me how to avoid them. You know, when the end of the month comes around and the cops want more money, they start writing more tickets. This means entrapment of sorts by catching you making basic driving mistakes that could be interpreted as breaking the law.)
    The ending though, that ending is messed up to an extent. If I recall correctly, the entire operation basically was a cover for destroying the cloning technology, because of how dangerous and evil it was, and also as a nod to all of those who died due to government screw ups. He saves the girl who fell in love with him, by making one last clone of her, while destroying every hidden base that he operated out of. Japan does start to recover, but the old corruption never went away.

    I always felt like the writer was venting through the series.
    As you said, the series is revenge porn and I felt the writer communicated several times that what akumetsu was doing isn't good and sometimes even had flawed logic for doing it. Like the first kill where he accuses the guy of killing 30 people because one guy killed himself over an amount of money and everyone acknowledges that it doesn't make sense. The only reason the kill felt good to read was because of how they were treating the girls. Strip them out of the scene and akumetsu looks a lot less justified in his actions.

    • @Alex_Barbosa
      @Alex_Barbosa 5 месяцев назад

      That guy still ruined alot of peoples lives. Honestly, if that were the only way to realistically fix the situation so it doesnt happen again, then its fine IMO.

    • @masakari3990
      @masakari3990 5 месяцев назад

      @@Alex_Barbosa I'd have to re-read but I'm not sure if it's confirmed he did ruin a bunch of lives. Akumetsu's justification was based off an amount one person killed themself over and comparing it to how much they get for retirement. Keep in mind, the person didn't have to kill themself. He was at a low in his life, some of which was probably brought on by his own actions.
      He also didn't fix anything. At the end, nothing was fixed. It ended kind of optimistically with her saying they are rebuilding and figuring stuff out but nothing was fixed. It's not like he killed all the shitty people in the world. They still exist and will still find their way into positions of power.

    Man this manga is so relevant (technically its always been relevant) considering how much it gets reported that there are small amounts of people HOARDING AND HOARDING billions of dollars for themselves while essentially doing nothing for the society and people who they profit from.
    They are just in a high position, and instead of taking a small cut that would help many, they just try to take MORE. EVERY CENT. Its absolutely insane.
    I got to the part with the detective who's nose bled when she smelled (evil I think?) but stopped there. Mainly because there was so much dialogue explaining how these systems work.
    But honestly I kind of want to get back into it now, so I can KNOW how these systems work. Because the manga genuinely is awesome and intriguing. The expressions are INSANE, the main character is AWESOME. And overall the story is genuinely thought provoking.
    It makes you think about taking your life back from these scumbags who gaslight you into thinking this is all there is. Forcing you to struggle to survive, while they barely lift a finger.
    It just makes me think "what if we just STOPPED working and STOPPED money from constantly flowing into their pockets.?"
