There are some songs that have these moments that just make you want to laugh, cry, scream and shout at the sky all at the same time. This song is one.
This video, this band itself makes me cry of Joy, just look at them, they're the perfect definition of ''family''.
5 best friends ( 2 pairs of brothers) traveling around the world, having fun, doing what they love: Music. I can easily tell that there's a damn strong connection between them and you rarely see it ( or feel it ?) in bands these days. I'm highly proud of listening to The National for the last years.

3 years ago i heard this beautiful yet powerful song on one of my favorite TV shows The originals. Till date this is one of those songs that will remain with me for life... there is this pain and a lot of passion i feel when i listen to this song. its a journey i experience while i listen to this song... When I heard it live, I thought the drums were the best part and I was a little bummed that it wasn't played like that on the album. I'm so happy they made this version. I hope they eventually release a full concert cd from this tour.

No, true or pure love is the love that should be set free from terrible love.. I used to be a Cure fan, many years ago; but everytime I watch and listen to them I seem to come away liking them less. I watched the videoclip for "Lullaby" the other week and shivered to the bones; not out of fear, only feeling sickened by it, and knowing deep inside me, it was all false. Like tearing something wonderful because you were too proud or arrogant to share. Yeah, like in the FNM song "Epic".

There's no need to hate on people because of their preferences. And despite the fact that I enjoy this version more than Birdy's, the National will always be the first and the only of this song. Birdy is not aiming to be better than the original, though some may think that.
I ain't denying Birdy's version isn't good, she's got a great voice, but i object to the fact that Matt "talks" the lyrics here. I think he has one of the most powerful voices full of emotion ( especially live ) out of any artist I know. I my opinion at least, and I'm not trying shouting down yours.
Wow. This is what I had hoped the song would sound like on the album. The demo they used is good and all but this deserves more than to be relegated to the "alternative version" sidelines.

@styntjuuh Noooo, don't skip the intro. I think its a wonderful insight (but on repeat it could get annoying i suppose, same with 'at the bottom of everything' intro.
@mihirhshah I don't see any big difference but the Matt's voice and volume of the instruments are kinda lowered soo it gives Matt's voice a more Live sound.

I like the chaos in the album version, but the drums in this version are way better in the mix - and this is just youtube quality on a laptop.
Sad it was sold for vodafone ad. Listen to 'Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers'...To me their best album of the 5 or 6. On their way to big things.
