The National has gotten better live even since the start of the tour. This song in particular sounded awkward in the first few live performances I saw online. I then saw them at The Apollo in London last week and they've totally reigned it in and added some better vocal restraint which has gotten them sounding godly again
interpol are the first and the quintessential post-punk revival band, so no. i do think the national have proven to be better and more constant, but that doesn't mean your comment makes any sense.

Im off to see them this weekend mind, for old times sake. Hopefully they'll just sing their songs about white collar, first world problems and shut up about politics.

Of course not, love the vocalist. The voice of the vocalist is one of the things that make The National so special. If the vocalist voice were better than the band will lose their essence
