I think the pink foam is a genius idea. Definitely thinking out of the box on that one and you gave other people a great idea. But we're all going to be watching to see how it turns out.
I really enjoy your vids. Tons of useful info. If you go with the foam you need glass to stick well to both sides to make foam core. Don’t know if epoxy will stick well enough to it . I have built marine coolers with epoxy and urethane foam and they are stiff and tough. I stand on one all the time in my flats boat and fish off it.I would lay up a piece of pink foam , epoxy glass on both sides and test strength at longest span of locker lid.good luck hope it works
I love this series man! I have an old ranger 373 just last the lavender one you restored a while ago and I’m planning on building the deck out so I’m definitely looking forward to the rest of the series!
Front deck extension is a must on these older rangers. I have an 85 373v and it's the best thing I've done to it yet. You don't realize it until you fish on one without all that extra deck space. I built mine out of pressure treated 2x2 and it's held up well. Buddy did an aluminum extension to save weight and it's awesome. Really curious to see how your foam turns out. Should be super light. Should weigh it after all said and done to see what it adds. I'm sitting out here currently watching your video and digging out the rotten wet transom wood out of mine to prepare for a seacast poured transom.
I've done several boat projects similar to this and I never even thought of pink foam ! I can't see any down side to it ! I'm excited to see how it does .
Maybe a hybrid system using some plywood and the foam would be the best match for strength and ease of use to fiberglass around. If you go that route, I would see if there is a specific epoxy or other adhesive for gluing the foam to the plywood. My $0.02.
Hey guys, these older Rangers have shallow rod lockers. I have a 1993 362V and the longest rod I could fit in the port locker was 7'2" with an inch to spare to jimmy the rod butt out of the locker.. Before you guys finish that front deck, you should really consider modifying that port locker to accommodate longer rods. I can now fit 8 foot rods in the port locker. Once the locker was extended it increased the carrying capacity in the locker as well.
Hey guys I really like the videos I've been wanting to ask y'all how much y'all would charge to rewire a bass boat if the customer were to provide all the necessary wiring and connections/gauges with a custom dash
If I remember right that pink foam will dissolve when it comes in contact with resin or acetone. If that was not the case people would have been using it as opposed to the high dollar stuff designed to do foam core construction for a lot of things. I'd test a piece before getting to deep if glassing is what you are planning to do.
Pink foam does melt with poly and acetone. But with epoxy, it does not, which is the route we are going. The only way we knew is by melting a couple of pieces. Lol
@@MealeyMarine After I wrote that I was wondering about epoxy. That might be good info if I ever start building or working on boats again. Good luck with the project, I look forward to seeing how it turns out.
Call Me 0l' School.....But I like the way Ranger developed their floor plan better, SORRY. I had and Loved my 1987 Ranger 373 back in 1987. And I have a 1987 Champion right now that is Never been rained on or in the weather better words I guess. I can see UpDating some things to the Newer stuff like maybe the Hydraulic sterring system's and live well controls and Eletronic's in the boat. just my 2 cents.😃
Thank you for your comment one of the purposes to this build is for us to increase our skills and learn new things that we can use in our day to work at Mealey Marine this boat is in bad shape so we decided to go in a different direction if we had one in good shape I don’t believe we do this to it Thanks so my for watching and taking the time to comment
How do you think the pink foam will do? Let us know!!!

I wish I would have seen this before I built the deck out using wood

We are planning on removing the foam at the front of the locker to allow for longer rods!
Do you know what kind of material is used for the white backing on the inside of the storage hatches? Mine is all cracked

Mealey Marine R&D 😉
I have a 390v. My plan is to cut out the front and rear of the ice chest and create a rod locker down the center. Thoughts?
I like that idea! Very feasible
Are you guys going to the fiberglass the foam?
Yes sir. Check back next week for our test
Does it have enough strength to withstand getting up and down on the front deck to fish....and the weight of your decking?
You'll see next week. With glass it's very strong.
Are yo going to glass the foam and leave it in there ? Or, are you going to use the foam like a mold and then remove it?
Glassing in place
Foam seems a little weak to me.....what do I know??
Probably more than us! 🤣
PINK FOAM YOU COULDN'T GO WITH GRAY FOAM
Didn't even know they made gray
