This has been so helpful. Thank you. In the past I have always ensured I have, at a minimum, a sweet white wine option, dry white, sparkling, red wine, beer, soft drink and still and sparkling water. I’ve never thought to add spirits or downsize the wine offering. But tbh I always end up over catering. Maybe next event I’ll pare it back. I think that’s classier. Also, I’ve always wanted to serve punch. I would greatly appreciate any tips/recipes you may have for this xx
I'm going to forward this to Helen Bankes from the Old Rectory because she gave a drinks party last weekend and it was a fiasco. She'd invited about 50 people which was way too many and she wouldn't let anyone use the loo as she'd just had it professionally deep cleaned. The drinks were "red cocktail" and "yellow cocktail" which turned out to be a vodka mixed with either orange or cranberry in 12 litre bins. Needless to say by 7pm everyone was paralytic and the vicar fell into a hedge. She hadn't even provided any food, we had to send Mrs. Grundon out to buy some and she came back with just loaves of bread like some kind of Red Cross delivery

Would you advise also serving Sherry in such parties or is it suitable for a different type of occasion?
I always think of Sherry as after church on a Sunday!!

Same thing happened on The Midsomer Murders mysteries no one thought it could be so but but some people never learn
Just feed them pork skins with a few bottles of Buckfast! That will help cool down the pretentiousness in these times of cost of living crisis.
