    Useful video as being a total newbee to the world of markers. More specifically, I’m looking for markers (that stay wet long enough?) to be able to make nice transitions and gradients within same colours or to different colours. Purpose: creating facepaint and bodypaint charts. Any tip welcome...😊 I already checked the review on W&N pigment markers, it’s too much fuss I fear, can’t go smudging all with finger, need precision... greetings from Belgium. X

      It's more about the paper. You'll have more work time on marker paper than Bristol or cardstock.

      Hello! It's hard to answer your questions without knowing you at all, but I would recommend you start with watching my video playlist "Different Media and Materials" which has videos all about different markers and paints, etc. I have all my videos organized into playlists, so I would go to my playlists, find the category that you want to learn first and then watch them in the order I put them in. As a beginner, after the "Different Media" videos, I would watch the figure drawing videos. I have separate playlists for male and female figures. Good luck and welcome to the channel!

  • @theplantabaja
    @theplantabaja 8 лет назад

    thanks! what about acrylics or other kind of brush painting? I have tones of it. the reason of using markers is that is more precise or fast? I have bought a mecanichal pencil as you suggested (although I have many of the regular ones) and this mechanical thing makes my life easier and my drawings more precise. Is that the big difference of markers vs brush painting?

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  8 лет назад

      Yes, markers are fast, they dry fast, you don't have to mix colors, you don't need a lot of tools. For quick sketches, you definitely want markers. Painting is awesome, it's beautiful, you can create so many looks with paint and you can mix any color you want without having to go the store to buy another marker, but yeah, you have to buy a lot of tools and wait for things to dry, etc etc. So I choose my medium for the end goal of the project.

    • @zoehongteaches

      It's true that the industry is increasingly turning to digital means but learning how to do some quick sketches by hand will never be an unused skill.

      If you're struggling with multiple brands, I think you really need to work on your hand more than trying to find a special brand. Try changing the way you hold markers in your hand. Chisel-tips might work better for you than brush-tips. And stay away from Chartpaks.

    Do you know a site called Dickblick? It's where I buy my art suplies when I can't find what I'm looking for where I live. When you said that the copic ink refills cost $10, I was like "I didn't pay all that". So I think it's worth it checking their website, the copic sketch cost $ 5.24 each and the refills is $5. The only thing that kills me is the shipping cause I have to pay for the international, but if you live in the US, it shouldn't be a problem
