This video was reMARKERble as always! How much of an impact does the base colour have on the piece overall? Like how different would Mr T be if you had started with a yellow base or something? Finding the right colours is probably a skill that will develop with practice. Still, watching how you layer everything and seeing it come together feels so magical! Ohu-who knew markers could be so amazing?!
I feel like I should take notes on this conversation structure…Hit ‘em with a dad joke, a question, a compliment, and another dad joke. Lol, I loved everything about this comment😂
Wow! This video shows just how much to trust the process. The deep pinks and lavender seem so out there, but once you get layering and really start mixing all the different colors you use, it comes together to make a beautiful, rich piece. I also never thought about how versatile markers being transparent is. Its just something I never thought of, and it's a really helpful way to look at it. Since it is transparent, i could possibly change things up or fix mistakes since the color isnt that deep yet. Thanks for the helpful advice!
Thank you for saying that the quality of materials isn’t important. A lot of youtube artists use custom brushes and full sets of copic markers and it makes young artists think thats the only way to draw
As someone who uses markers A LOT, I have been able to make personal innovations and compile a decent amount of info, but never did I think to layer them like that
Pigment-based or India Ink-based markers from companies such as Staedtler and Faber-Castell don’t actually bleed through the page. They are also more lightfast and archival than alcohol dye-based markers, which fade over time.
Markers are my personal medium of choice, so you posted this at the perfect time! I think I’ve gotten stuck in the ways I use them, and this gave me a lot of ideas! Also- during the entire layering process I kept thinking “that looks way too red” but then I compared the end product to the reference photo and saw it was a near-perfect match! You inspire me so much to continue as an artist, thank you!
I recognised Mr T straight away 😃 He came to my work 15 years ago (big corporate company and he was there for Snickers). I want to learn how to use them to their full potential, since they are beautiful and can create amazing art. And thank you for saying there is no right or wrong way to use tools. I hate people that tell others they are using something wrong.
I know why he mentioned HK! He was involved in the cleanup, afterwards he felt it wasnt right to wear all that gold when so many people lost everything.

this turned out awesome, great work scott. Nice to see long form videos too in my opinion! Also does it make a difference whether you use wax based or oil based pencil colours for this method? thanks

As soon as i saw you layering the colors and using the BASE COLOR as LAVENDER made my jaw dropped to the floor !! I didnt even imagine or think abt that! Ive used coloring markers for 1-2 years and i had a hard time figuring how to make it look like the correct shade of color or like make it blend smooth, this helped me so so *so* so much! ❤❤
Thank you for this video informing everyone . The medium I mainly work his alcohol markers, and I learned a lot of advice from this that I will be sure to use some of my own art!
Thank you for your initial marker series of shorts! Listening to your advice with layering and how markers work, not to mention your watercolor advice as well, all helped me significantly improve from my first ever attempt (before studying how you work with alcohol markers) to my second ever attempt!! I appreciate all the videos you make on art!!! (ps, I got the artbeek markers and ohuhu marker sketchbook because of your little reviews! Thanks for those too!!!)

You are motivating me to start my own art youtube channel where I keep it real just like you! because we need a lot more like that in the community 💖 Lots of love from Norway!
This was really helpful! I’ve been mainly winging it with my markers, and I’m used to separating my art medians when I’m working on a piece. Seeing how blending different medians can work out gives me some ideas for my next pieces. Thanks, Scott!
Hey Scott, I just want to say that you are a huge inspiration to me! Watching you draw has inspired me to draw in different ways and use different colour combinations I wouldn’t have thought of. I love the posters you make and today on my birthday I got the centaur and dragon alliance one :) Keep up the great work!
Thank you for this video! I got some ohuhu markers last christmas and it’s been really a challenging yet fun experience trying to work with the medium. Your thoughts at the end about the right ways to do things were spot on. If it works for you it works. Other people don’t need to like it but I find the really bad paintings are often when I’m trying new things. Going in new directions. Sometimes just learning what doesn’t work is invaluable

Amazing ❤ I love how u r open, respectful, and encouraging to ppl's own artstyle and way of using art mediums. Everyone have their own style and comfort in art that makes them happy. It's been so long since I used alcohol markers so it's very satisfying to see ppl using them in different ways. Amazed that u can layer so many colors with markers. It makes me want to go back to markers and use more colors for layering ❤
I normally work with digital art programs, but I have been trying to get out of the digital mindset and back into traditional mindset. And hearing you say "there's no rules" in regards to mixing mediums together, kinda helps ALOT in pushing past what is often taught in Art classes. Nowadays, art teachers force the "Your art needs to tell a story" and "You can only use one medium during one artwork" things and deduct points/marks if you go against such teachings. Which often causes burnout and decreases creativity by a long shot... It's sad. Which is why I chose to work digitally instead... It's hard to unlearn. So thanks for uploading and saying the things you've said. It means alot!
Watching you make art and have fun with the process, experimenting with colors and making something beautiful along the way is so inspiring to me. I've been trying to let go of my perfectionism and be more spontaneous. I love your channel very much.
I'd love a video specifically on how to choose colors for different layers depending on what you're doing (i know a lot of it is practice, but maybe some tips)

I am mostly digital artists but I impulsively bought cheap alcohol markers recently and I had a lot of fun drawing with them, I mixed them with color pencils and watercolors to get better results
The way you build up so many layers of colors that all blend together so well and give so much depth is amazing. I hope I can gain your level of confidence with color with more practice. Because of my budget I’ve only been able to afford regular Crayola Supertips, and I kind of sucked at using them at first. Then I played around with a Pentel Aquabrush one of my professors gave me and tried using it as a blending tool. After some more practice I’ve gotten really solid results. The shape of the tips lets me get the control and precision of colored pencils with the smoothness and wide strokes of markers, and the inks can work a lot like watercolor if you add lots of water to spread it out
You’re just great. I got a great sense of your direction n how to approach. I really appreciate the perspective of use different materials, because as a long time student, we are usually put to a very strict standard of what is art. If you use a different material than say oil, we’ll now it’s a mixed medium art piece. So yeah. Art is art. Congrats on this channel. It’s great.
what an amazing picture you made in the end. another thing to keep in mind is that layering is only possible on really good paper made for things like watercolour and markers, or else it can start to pill and break down. this doesn’t always happen, and there are things you can do to avoid it, but it’s something to keep in mind.
I tried markers for Inktober and did not like them. I later made a swatch chart and found out there really weren't any midtones in the set of 72 markers that I had. Just very strong contrasts of light and heavily saturated colors. I think your technique of multilayering markers and pencils confirms for me the fact that building midtones in markers might be a ton of effort. I think the medium looks amazing though in comics.
Weirdly Right on time!!! I started using markers a few days ago and I honestly had little to no idea how to use them, this video helped A LOT, thanks Scott!
amazing video! it took me a lot of effort to get a set of markers (since they don't ship to my country) and now they just sit useless on my shelf bc i lost motivation to use them. i'm scared that whatever i make with them will be bad bc i'm a beginner, i'm still learning. but after watching your video it made me feel a little bit better bc i can mess around and find out the right way for me to use them (your tips are a good starting point for that). and even if it'll be bad - it's temporary & will fade rather quickly. so, yea. thank you.
The SHOCK that coursed through my body when you said it was Mr. T. First things first, no I don’t know who he is or what he looks like, so I didn’t recognize him. However, I am a young person who works at a zoo, and on Wednesday it was announced that our guinea turaco’s official name is now “Mr. T, and if you don’t know who that is … none of you know who that is. We’re old.” I jokingly thought Mr. T when you said “you may or may not know who I’m sketching.” AND IT ACTUALLY IS HIM. What a fun coincidence.
I’m in awe!! I recently decided to learn how to use alcohol markers to fit my style. I have a substantial collection collection dust because I was never happy with what I made.I’m definitely inspired.
Scott never skips a beat good job Scott I've both lost count of how many times you've made a beautiful piece and I've learned something while you did it ❤❤
I like doing pointillism with markers. I have a collection of different brands and sizes and such. It is so fun. Also, when doing colored pencils, I tend to do the squiggles too.
Wow! That’s magnificent! You did it beautifully. love ohuhu markers! I use them all the time. But not the way you use interesting colors for the layers, it is something new for me.
I love that markers don’t last forever I keep mine in a sunny space all the time because then I watch them fade over time and eventually I get to reuse the paper (not for a while but yk what I mean)
Hey Scott! Love your shorts and recently started watching your videos. I feel like what I love about videos is that occasionally I see the artists face and them talking to me. I feel like there is a bit of connection I'm missing. I want to see you explain your steps and then see your process. Take your time, use music and cuts to add progress. Art youtubers 10Hundered and Nerdforge kill it with long-form 10/10 would recommend them as reference points. Also talk slower in long videos! I like your art because the pieces feel so calm but your longform videos feel so loud. Totally get it if that's not your vibe but I figured I'd recommend it. Anyways I'm an avid long form watcher now regardless of all that. Please take it as constructive. Your videos are great and I just figured some feedback might be useful to grow your long-form audience. Love this piece
this was such an interesting video!! it was really interesing seeing this way of coloring with markers, especially since i didnt know that you could do this with them
Do you think you could do a tutorial on how you sketch the faces? I would love to start drawing people but I never am able to draw the face properly and I would love to see your process.
Wow! Again with the pencils and markers yay I can’t wait to try it. Interesting comment about the faded. Have you worked with mod podge at all? I wonder how that would respond as a sealer.
thank you so much for explaining everything...so i can leave drawing under the sun if they feel too dark as well...LET'S GOOOO i now know how to fix one drawing
Scott! I’m in my early 20s and still know Mr. T! I think compared to other American pop culture icons of that time Mr. T is still reasonably well known
Hmmmm so much new info! I love how you layer marker with pencil then back to marker! Not gonna lie, i am most impressed by how versatile the colored pencils are 😂
I received a lot of markers from my sister a few days ago because she doesn't use them anymore and I had absolutely no idea where to start or how they "worked". I really want to try them no that I saw this, and I kind of forgot why it stressed me in the first place to try a new medium so thanks a lot !
Oh! I knew i recognized Mister T! This video really made me happy :] It amazed me the way the markers layered on top of each other!! It looked so cool!! I really want to draw now hahajs, :] Great video! I love to see the process of art and people explaining their own process, it makes me happy happy happy :] thank you 🌠🌟💪
A little late to the party but I wanted to clarify the brand of ALCOHOL marketers doesn’t really matter but if you are using water based markers like crayons the brand can make a huge change.
Do you need a lot of different colors of markers? I have been using markers for a while now and I use a variety of watercolor, alcohol, and standard markers just because I don’t have enough colors in the alcohol set I have. I just got the set a few months ago and it’s my first time using alcohol markers. I enjoy using them, but it bothers me that I feel like I don’t have enough colors.

What a fun coincidence.
i started drawing with markers in 2021 maybe, but this video helped a lot actually. thanks scott!
I’m in awe!! I recently decided to learn how to use alcohol markers to fit my style. I have a substantial collection collection dust because I was never happy with what I made.I’m definitely inspired.
Cool! I got some last christmas and i love it! Im practicing foreshortening. Its kind of confusing 😅 but ill keep practicing!
It's like magic! Just amazing! 😍
The live was great this morning!
This is an amazing art piece it looks like it should be in a museum
Thanks. I'll look them up.
this was such an interesting video!! it was really interesing seeing this way of coloring with markers, especially since i didnt know that you could do this with them
Love Watching your videos or shorts they always help me remember art doesn't have to be perfect! :D
Do you think you could do a tutorial on how you sketch the faces? I would love to start drawing people but I never am able to draw the face properly and I would love to see your process.
I have this

Thanks!
This isn’t the way I do markers but honestly it’s really cool way to use them :)
A very most excellent video!! Thanks for sharing
Wow! Again with the pencils and markers yay I can’t wait to try it. Interesting comment about the faded. Have you worked with mod podge at all? I wonder how that would respond as a sealer.
I don't own or plan to use markers, but it's so interesting hearing you talk about art tips, in any sense!
The skin tone is amazing and fascinating to see the process
thank you so much for explaining everything...so i can leave drawing under the sun if they feel too dark as well...LET'S GOOOO i now know how to fix one drawing
Scott! I’m in my early 20s and still know Mr. T! I think compared to other American pop culture icons of that time Mr. T is still reasonably well known
I want some makers so bad! I am going to try to get some soon so this vid will really help thanks!
I want to try out my markers, I’m just a little afraid that blending the colors will transfer the colors to the other markers and ruin them.
There is special marker paper called Layout paper where the markers won’t bleed through!!!!
What a brilliant picture of Mr T. ❤ that was amazing to watch. You are talented. 😊
Hmmmm so much new info! I love how you layer marker with pencil then back to marker!
Not gonna lie, i am most impressed by how versatile the colored pencils are 😂
Do you ever use acrylic markers and do you know much about their permanence? Great video, thanks
It wasn't until college, that my teachers started not caring about me mixing mediums.
This video really made me happy :]
It amazed me the way the markers layered on top of each other!! It looked so cool!!
I really want to draw now hahajs, :]
Great video! I love to see the process of art and people explaining their own process, it makes me happy happy happy :] thank you
🌠🌟💪
Beautiful🤩
A little late to the party but I wanted to clarify the brand of ALCOHOL marketers doesn’t really matter but if you are using water based markers like crayons the brand can make a huge change.
Do you need a lot of different colors of markers? I have been using markers for a while now and I use a variety of watercolor, alcohol, and standard markers just because I don’t have enough colors in the alcohol set I have. I just got the set a few months ago and it’s my first time using alcohol markers. I enjoy using them, but it bothers me that I feel like I don’t have enough colors.
