Sir, i am a retired U. S. Marine and played trombone for 7 years about 43 years ago. I recently bought a new horn and started trying to play again. I have been playing for just over a month now and about a week into my practicing, i came across your warm up routine. It is brillant and i play it every day. At first i was pitiful, but i have no quit in me and i almost played it without any mistakes for the first time last night and then i got to 7th position and so much for no mistakes. I just wanted to let you know how much i admire your talent and ability, and your willingness to share this phenomenal warmup routine with the world. I love the concept of your warm-up. Nowadays it is common to see 30/45/60 min Warm-ups but as professional athletes that we are, the warm-up should be a short activity to prepare ourselves in a short time for the day and after that work on the different technical aspects like flexibility, trills, scales, high or low register etc. Thanks for this video.
Totally agree especially when gigging . I also think that each n every individual has there own way to warm up , for me I do a little bit of buzzing then long tones on any major scale warm up , getting the instrument itself warm , zero into the middle of the major scale notes and I'm warmed up

My ‘lockdown’ goal was to relearn my old bass trombone after a gap of 20+ years; I’ve enjoyed watching many of your videos in the process (well, you were my - and everyone else’s - hero in the 1990s) which have helped me in my task. I have enjoyed watching you working on the Bach over the past weeks. Very inspiring and it encouraged me to dig out the cello suites - excruciating for the rest of the family but I am thoroughly enjoying myself! I also love the way you combine your music with your spiritual and physical well-being. Hearing you explain how you approach your warm-up and then hearing you demonstrate was most helpful. By the way, I have the old dvd of you playing a recital with Hakan (gasp! made almost 30 years ago!!!), and I enjoy it so much. My favorite on that dvd is probably your playing of the music from Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet. So delightful!

How often do we hear a lesson from someone undergoing a quarantine? I don't understand why we need the ticking noise in the background, however; it's annoying and distracting, completely unnecessary.

Hi Christian, what would you suggest for playing the mouth piece, to put the mouth piece in the middle of the mouth (straight) and to put the mouth piece not straight. Will it bring any difference by placing in different position? I play the mouth piece to the right side always not straight, I don’t know if this may change my performance. Hi Christian. You seem to have photographic memory because I have never seen you use music scores when you perform as a trombone soloist. Do you have any special techniques for memory training? How do you memorize all those trombone concerts you perform without music scores? During all years its enormous quantities of music soloscores. Greetings/Leif
Thanks for your interesting remarks and compliments! I have no photographic memory whatsoever, everything is an audible memory. I was just born that way, once I hear something it stays in my audible memory immediately. The back side of it is that I am a terrible sightreader...haha!! But on the other hand, as a soloist I am never exposed to that :-)
His trombone is a Conn 88hcl (a variation on the Conn 88h that features a valve that Maestro Lindberg designed). The Blessing b-88 was inspired by the Conn 88h, which is why it probably looks similar to you.
I wish I had the time...I will do as much as my schedule allows, but soon I will be totally booked up with compsing deadlines, conducting engagements and much much more!!!

I have been using your line of mouthpieces for most of the last 15 years (specifically the 4 and 10 CL) and always wondered why I have to pull my tuning slide out a little further when I use your mouthpieces. Is it me? Or are your mouthpieces designed that way due to the tuning used in Europe?
@@hermanjimenez Thank you for your interesting question. The tuning is the same but so you are probably using too much effort when playing these mouthpieces. One of the great advantages with this mouthpiece is that it is shaped a bit lika a french horn mouthpiece and you can therefore relax much more in your muscles and open up. When you found that relaxing embouchure you will notice that your ptich will get more stable,your sound bigger and you will get much better endurance! Best of luck Herman!!

It is to keep the slide from drying up. Always make sure that the slide-o-ix is evenly spread out on the slide!

What are your thoughts on the pressure of the mouthpiece against the lips? Should you try to keep it to a minimum or does it even matter?
