Thanks for sharing. I´ve such a Smock for years now. It´s a great piece of kit. That thing works very good in inclement weather. Good choice! Regards from Germany
@@samrussell0331 I think it is key to treat it well when it comes to washing it. Choose a hot wash cycle and put it in the dryer afterwards. Now spray it really well with water repellent, like really wet. Then back into the dryer to set the repellent in. Of course it's not like a Gore Tex jacket or a nylon poncho, but really, really good. Always in mind: the smock is an outer layer, so the prerequisite is you are decent dressed under it 😉 Then it works well for me, try it.
Have you meanwhile been able to test/wear your GB Smock in inclement weather?! Do you like it? Here in Germany is autumn weather, lower temps, fog, rain and wind, so my Smok is already in use.
The older 94 pattern jacket was better. If you actually look at the kit list for an infantry man to carry in his combat jacket it's a lot, even more if you are section commander.
In my pockets I kept a field dressing, compass, map, survival kit, waterproof notebook/pencil, flashlight/spare batteries, folding knife, warm hat, gloves, energy snacks. We didn’t ever use the hood… it was kept rolled up. Loaded magazines can also be carried in pockets to do close target recce without the bulk of load bearing equipment.
I’ve never even thought about making videos tbh but maybe a smock video would be a good place to start. I think it’s always interesting to see what gear people carry, how they carry it and how they use it. It is interesting also how people are finding other uses for these military smocks from bushcrafting to prepping to wildlife watching and hunting…. which just goes to show how versatile the smock actually is.
I bought an OD green one from Kitpimp off of Amazon. It has a rear hutt pocket where I intend to store a lightweight rain jacket. When I wear the rain jacket, intend to wear it under my smock to protect the jacket but also reduce noise that is made when rain falls on USGI goretex
The swedes make the same deal but a "jacket". The hood zips off and can be stowed in a rear pocket same location as a butt pack. It serves as a small-ish butt pack. I say small because dudes always want to put the kitchen sink in their butt pack. I might be dudes. Hood has toggles for goggles, and chin flaps. You could cinch it around anything you might put on your head/face. Chest pockets are the same fold over deal, you get sleeve pockets as well. The interior pockets are roomy. You could fit your favorite highshool history book in one. Dazzle camo in woodland colors is pretty damn nice. What to put in a jacket/smock? Damn near anything. All of your normal don't get lost in the woods stuff fits easily. Food fits. Being a philanthropist, I could see me stowing a small rescue animal. Chicken/goat/ a couple rabbits. Hydration that you don't want to freeze can fit inside. A poncho could go in the butt area. Plenty of room for some mesh or scrim, whatever you call it. Something to keep the suns glare off of you. One needed upgrade is armpit vents. A zipper that runs vertical when your arms are straight up. Pit vents offer so much potential.
A little respect for the British flag. We are your best allies afterall.
I don’t mean any disrespect, but I also can’t be wearing other countries colors.
@@samrussell0331 No worries mate. I'd do the same if I had a Yank patch on a jacket :-)
Me too 🇬🇧
And me but go gentle on the flags ppl.
@samrussell0331 they are the same colors 😂

Thank you. It almost makes me look forward to bad weather.

@@therovindieshard great info. Sounds like you should upload your own video about it. I’d watch.

The hood should be wired already, so you can fold it to your face.
Mine isn’t. I’ll have to fix it

Hey brother I didn’t catch it if you said it. I’m similar build to you what size did you get
180/104. You can see in the video that it’s a little large and long on me, but that was intentional for wearing stuff under it.

Good video!
Thanks you! I’m gonna need to make a point to mention where I get all this stuff in the videos. There will be more.
Speaking of smocks, 0241 tactical every once in a while has a excellent variety, they usually sell out quick though.
I got mine from One Their Surplus. They were the first comment on this video and a link to their ensure is in the description.
