Damasteel is about $200 in material per knife, at a single piece retail price. Buying it in bulk from a supplier is about half that cost. So it shouldn't cost more than a few hundred more, even factoring in increased liability if he has to scrap asuper high number of blades, something like 1 in 20 blades.

Try and look up Norseman #600 if you like Timascus and damasteel, #600 is probably the best one I've ever seen.
