Throw the buyers in prison with no bail and the same for the thieves and this will stop or at least slow down , make a mandatory jail time of 20 years and people will think twice about steeling these . Crackheads will do just about anything for their fix . All states need to bring back "Chaingangs" so no more going to jail and doing time in an air-conditioned cell , this will bring back the work ethic that so many people don't have nowadays . 🤬 F . J . Make it a mandatory 10 year minimum prison sentence with no chance of parole for converter theft and you'll see this stop immediately. The problem is there are no real repercussions for these thieves. I would encourage anybody who has a vehicle that could be a target for a converter thief to take some steps to protect it like getting some clamps and cables to lock it into place. Anything that a thief sees is going to cost them some extra time to deal with is most likely going to send them on to the next vehicle.
Recycle shops caught with stolen catalytic converters should be charged with possession of stolen goods. They need to obtain ID

I would think that the security guard business would be booming right now.
If this was back in the 1950s or 1960s, the security guards could beat the snot out of the thieves before turning them over to the cops.

The car manufacturers are guilty because they mount the expensive catalytic converter under the car without any protective shield, thus encouraging the theft of catalytic converters. We must all unite and sue the car manufacturers, to pay compensation! The car manufacturers should learn to mount protective shields under the catalysts and pipes so that it takes several hours for them to be removed to access the catalysts, then the catalysts will no longer be stolen!
