Probably one of the best F1 games made. So much content and with the new 'My Team' mode the game is basically a must buy for F1 fans. There's hours of gameplay to be had in here and i'd say worthy of the upgrade from 19 and a definite buy if you've skipped years/new to F1.

I love me some Codemasters and their EGO engine is a great piece of engineering. BUT. Guys.... seriously when you stopped putting any more effort into your character modelling in 2011 because you decided they weren’t worth the effort, you should just leave characters out of the games all together. They seriously take you “out” of the moment.
So true. They have done an amazing job with the cars and tracks. Sometimes when I see replays of F1 2019 or 2020 I have to do a double take to make sure I'm watching a game and not a TV replay. But the character models. hahah hooo boy.
That's not true. Character models also made a huge leap compared to LastGen F1 games from Codies. From 2017 to 2018 or 2018 to 2019 they were improved again. They use 3D Scans for all the drivers, so the source material is really good. They still have to improve the skin shaders, Subsurface Scattering, the eyes and some of the facial animations. In the team and driver selection you see that their models are good. They can't hold up in gameplay or the pre-race.
"A tangible boost" and "tearing is less abundant" - while all I see is a perfect 60fps lock and frame pacing. Tom, you do do some great work but sometimes what you say doesn't match what you show. Give us the evidence of these drops you mention if you've run it through your tools please.
I genuinely think some of the on screen charts were not working correctly. Tom is saying "it's not perfect and there are still drops into the high 50's'" at 5:50 meanwhile the fps chart is showing perfect 60fps and there is zero movement on the frame pacing chart.
this game is so nice on PC, my old high with a 980 was able to still run it on high getting decent fps (45-60) & only really having it drop after tabbing out of the game.
Same game, updated, with "2020" on the jacket to make it seem like a new game. What a scam dude. Sport games like this, FIFA, 2K, etc.. are all recycling their old games year after year and sell them at full price (with additional lootboxes and microtransactions as if that was not enough) It is shameful.

The games are essentially the same, although there was a huge improvement in lighting between one of the releases (and 2019 did add Formula 2, so there's that). 2020 brings changes to the handling model, new tracks, a better approach to ERS, and a new team management mode. Totally worth it this time imo.
That rain at the start made me miss Sepang circuit in Formula 1 calendar. Not only its an amazing track but the weather is so unpredictable. I think F1 company should drop either China, Sochi or Yas Marina. Those were boring. Bring back sepang and maybe even istanbul!

Having to pay full price for essentially the same game as last years with some minor graphic settings changed... This should have been a patch, not a new game.
I wud have completed and bought it if one was released every 3years. But runs beautifully and we can finally see how much performance/quality checkerboarding gives.
Also , this is what i fear with next gen cross gen, the trees look worse now in every version because base xbox 1 couldnt handle it smoothly. So now all versions suffer.

That's because Assetto Corsa Competizione is a hardcore simulation with physics far, far ahead of anything else on consoles. The developers has said they picked 30 FPS and limited the amount of on track cars to 20 so the console versions of the game have the exact same physics as the PC version. The lack of 60 FPS is mostly down to the quite frankly pathetic CPUs in the consoles, they've been a massive bottleneck the entire generation.
Ryzen 2600 level CPU can't hold 60 fps on PC either in ACC, not with 20+ AI cars. The game is not very well optimized (the original AC wasn't either) and on top of that is also heavily single-thread limited by the game's main thread (which I guess is in part due to Unreal Engine, because other UE games seem to have the same issue).
@@Case_ Yeah pretty much you nailed what I was going to say, both the original AC and ACC are single-thread limited by the main thread particularly by AI and as a result the game performs poorly on the 8-core Jaguars that rely on the cores to make up for their extremely poor single core performance.
Two new tracks, added splitscreen and a whole new team management carreer mode. They haven’t been taking it easy and in any case they massively improved the entire lighting model last year. It makes sense not to focus on the graphics too much in the last iteration for this generation.
The F1 games have always been behind the curve when it comes to graphics. I don't understand how Dirt Rally and 2.0 end up looking almost a generation better while running on the same engine.
What would have been nice is a live simulation of how every grand prix actually went so we can see why Ferrari did poorly to the mechanical level this passed weekend.

The dawn of hybrid engines took off the KERS System (a video game boost) to the ERS deployment, and the game became more managing your energy and fuel through the race, now that there's no refueling. Also, coming from F1 2010 to F1 2019, they revamped the "Role Playing" aspects of the seasons, now that you can join any team, any time, and also have some fictional rivals in last year's entry. What a joke, 2019 and 2020 are virtually identical looking. Slight improvements. It's like devoting a whole video to a minor update as if it's a new game. The fact that with the older xbox version you discuss how they addressed tearing / fps crops just shows this is a bug fix release (bugs that shouldn't be there on release ON CONSOLE, ie predictable and completely beta testable hardware). Publishers are selling these minor patches as new games, please don't eat their bait by seriously treating them like new games too.

The anti aliasing options were terrible in previous f1 games. Either aliased to hell or full of taa smoothing. No MSAA options. Is this change in 2020?

The design of those trees in 2020 looks like from a platforming games like Jak, or Ratchet and Clank.
It's not a problem when you're traveling at 200mph.
Vegetation in racing games has always looked bad but next gen it should finally start it reach modern quality, GT7 looks like proof of that.

Ego engine itself is a fork of Sony phyre engine from the 2000's. Idk maybe haven't updated the engine for facial textures

No tearing *is* less tearing than *any* tearing at all, so technically he's right even if it's perfectly locked

They just can't make it to run at 60. It struggles with CPU performance at 60 fps even on solid PCs if you race with the AI.

No. MSAA is barely a thing anymore. Best bet is TAA + Nvidia sharpening. 2020 aliasing isn't as bad as 2019.

Am I the only one that feels like these two games look exactly the same? I mean say what you will about Madden and FIFA, but at least those have different visuals in their menus and HUDs.

All racing games should have 60fps.
This looks more like a medium patch to the 2019 edition rather than a new game. Never liked the idea of an annualized game where you can see little improvement between the latest and previous one.
Every new codemasters game is basically an overpriced patch.

This game looks great on the Xbox One X but for some reason the added extra load points in the race weekends absolutely annoying.........

This really looks like a very minor upgrade compared to last years game. An entire new game to fix performance issues.. welcome to 2020.
Any official series is like that, license fees are not cheap unfortunately. Not really fair to say that's the only change.
