    Lyrics:
    Tarzan wasn't a ladies' man
He'd just come along and scoop 'em up under his arm like that
Quick as a cat in the jungle
But Clark Kent, now there was a real gent
He would not be caught sittin' around in no junglescape
Dumb as an ape doing nothing
    Superman never made any money
For saving the world from Solomon Grundy
And sometimes I despair the world will never see another man
    Like him
Hey Bob, Supe had a straight job
Even though he could have smashed through any bank in the United States
He had the strength, but he would not
Folks said his family were all dead
Planet crumbled but Superman, he forced himself to carry on
    Forget Krypton and keep going
    Superman never made any money
For saving the world from Solomon Grundy
And sometimes I despair the world will never see another man
    Like him
Tarzan was king of the jungle and lord over all the apes
But he could hardly string together four words:
    "I Tarzan, you Jane"
Sometimes when Supe was stopping crimes
I'll bet that he was tempted to just quit and turn his back on man
    Join Tarzan in the forest
But he stayed in the city
Kept on changing clothes in dirty old phonebooths 'til his work was through
And nothing to do but go on home
    Superman never made any money
For saving the world from Solomon Grundy
And sometimes I despair the world will never see another man
    Like him
And sometimes I despair the world will never see another man
    Like him

I am So so very sorry! I honestly cant imagine the pain of losing one of my kids and im just sorry you had to experience the worst loss i feel one can experience. I Lost my Mother and it was horrific for me. Worst time in my life! But losing one of my Children i couldnt bare it! And then to see my other 3 kids mourning their sister or brother would make it so much worse to deal with. My deepest Condolences! I know my words mean nothing and dont help. But i am truly so so Sorry!!! I hope you found some comfort in knowing he isnt Suffering anymore and hes in paradise with our Heavenly Father. God Bless you and your family.

Heard this song on a car radio driving North from Toronto 700+ K to my home town. Was heading North to see my mother for the last time. She had dementia and didn’t even know who I was. That was 1991, (I think) when this sad, poignant tune was released. Last time I saw her alive. Felt all the loss and sorrow in this song in my very soul. Still tear up when I hear it. What a beautiful work of art. Powerful, yet delicate. Everything about this is just perfect: the theme of Superman doing his thankless job, the stark, simple lyrics, the dirge-like music, the perfect use of Brad's unique sound, the angel's voice that harmonizes with him, the strings arrangement that fills and carries just like you want it to...all fits into a heart-wrenching statement of love and respect for Superman and what he meant, how he represented the best in us and what we could be.
    Just a lovely, thoughtful song.

In 1992, my senior year of high school, my chorus teacher gave me a tape with this on it, and told me I'd be singing it in our spring pops concert. I hadn't heard it before. I learned it, and sang it solo in the concert, with him playing piano accompaniment. When I got to the end of the bridge ("I Tarzan, you Jane") the auditorium erupted in cheers. I never expected it; it was my first time singing a song solo in a concert, and I wasn't one of the popular kids. I knew for a few seconds what it felt like to be a rock star.
For years afterwards, my mother would pester me to sing it for her. I usually would, feeling slightly embarrassed, but enjoying the song again, and thinking back to that brief moment of surprise glory.
When my mum was sick with cancer in 2020 during the first COVID lockdown, at first we couldn't even visit her. Once it was clear she was dying, and had transitioned to in-home hospice care, I did go see her near the end. She wasn't awake during my visit--she was rarely awake by that point. I sang her this song again, as best I could through the tears.
Thank you, Crash Test Dummies. I miss you, Mom.

I myself have been there and know what its like, I have had many struggles with loneliness, depression and addiction. Sometimes people just need to know that there is someone can hear them, someone is listening and understands and cares. Just know your not alone, your never alone and there are people in this world that care and love, maybe some you have not even met yet. I'm sure your a great person and it's totally understandable to miss your dad. Your dad's not gone, he is a part of you and you a part of him, there is a strong bond between a father and daughter that can't be broken. I guarantee he's proud of you, he loves you and he will always be close by. Don't let this world beat you down, we are living in very weird, difficult times, but your strong and you can get through this. I'm sorry for going on, I had people there to help me and ended up meeting some great people. From that moment it's always in my heart now to reach out to others that are struggling. I know I'm just a stranger on the internet, but also know I am a man who cares. Never be afraid to reach out, there are still a lot of great people out here that do care and believe in the power of love and helping others. If I can make someone's day just a little brighter, its all worth it. Never forget you are LOVED, APPRECIATED and that you MATTER, so put a big SMILE 😀 on your face and pushing forward. It's got beautiful composition (in regards to the instrumentation), the harmonising with Brad & Ellen is pitch perfect (with both having great respective voices) and even though I'm not a Superman fan, he does represent the very best (at least ideologically) that we as people can be & the song is about his demise.

I had both of those on tape and The Eagles Hell Freezes Over and Areosmith's Get a Grip. I still have my panasonic shockwave in tact and still works. With Metallica's Metallica (CKA: The Black Album) original cassette inside. They really dont make things like they used to

Great song. Great melody, great vocals. And a very unique and peculiar lyric that takes the superhero concept sideways yet ends up somehow making it more universally relatable. Proud to be a Canadian for this Canadian band.

I'm 70 years old,and although, this was out of my usual rock appreciation, this man's unusual low voice struck my ear just right.

I have sung to this song so many times and it still moves me even though the words are kind of funny. I can't imagine the type of person that doesn't like this song... maybe they are just too young to appreciate it but will love it later in life.

I can imagine people not liking this song. It's very dependent on the lyrics, imo and if someone can't understand what he sings because of language barrier, the song isn't gonna impress them much

The harmony between Brad and Ellen is so beautiful. Used to listen to this back in the day while studying in med school. Ellen was pretty fine as well
