They aren't really a "Worship" band as much as they are Christians who write music that fits the mood and thoughts of a moment. Which to me is great. I like music from a full spectrum of humanity. Reminds me of reading the Bible and in particular the Books of Poetry, going from Psalms to Song of Solomon.

If I remember right, Bear said they did NOT want to be labeled as a Christian Band in order to have freedom in what they produce. I tried explaining this to my parents and they didn't get it. The power that comes with such a choice is that they can widely broaden the scope and reach of their talents and reach people who typically wouldn't listen to 'Christian' Music, and through that very thread draw them in to the more spiritual pieces of their repertoire. Draws to mind bands like the Fray, Owl City, One Republic, Imagine Dragons (Yeah, I know they're Mormon and while I don't necessarily consider that "Christian" it's certainly faith based.
@@arandomjonathan04 It's there, but at the same time it's not as provocative as it would seem. There is a sensuality to it, but what boy - Christian or other wise - or girl for that matter, hasn't experienced that first person that catches their eye and makes their heart beat a little quicker? Personally I've seen Hillsong make videos that strike me as more inappropriate than this yet still be lauded as 'Christian'. I guess it's all a matter of personal opinion, though.

People need to realize that there is such thing as a band who does Christian and secular music. I really like their mixture because while I am a Christian, I do listen to mainly secular music, and I like the way their music sounds no matter what. A lot of Christian music all sounds the same, but these guys make it actually sound enjoyable.
Elizabeth Lauren You are right! Far too many Christian songs soound alike. A band with uniqueness that performs with variety is welcomed with open arms, but God gives no license for us to behave as the world does.
Elizabeth Lauren I listen to some secular songs too but we also need to realize that we shouldn't ride the fence either. we need to ask ourselves if this is what Christ died for. We are either all in or all out. We also need to look at the message we are sending out to people who do not know Christ. These are the types of situations we need to look out for. We must guard our hearts and be vigilant when it comes down to the small things. The small things are what prepares our hearts and minds for the big decisions we make in our lives. Stay strong my fellow brothers and sisters.

Or you could realize that EVERYONE is all out, and all that we can do is love God and accept Jesus. That is ALL we can do. That's enough. I hate that baptists have brainwashed you. SheerShorts Baptists aren't brainwashed, at least not all of us (some Baptists have made the others look really bad though and I know that). I don't fear God, I respect Him and love Him, knowing that He is higher than I am. And you're right, He does want us just as we are, but He also loves us too much to just leave us where we are. We are ALL broken, and we ALL make mistakes, but Christ died so that we don't HAVE to be slaves to sin any longer. We all have choices to make, big and small. The difference between Christians and the world is that we KNOW the difference between right and wrong because Christ has revealed that to our hearts, the world doesn't have that. That's why the Bible tells us in Romans to not be conformed to this world and to renew our minds. We are supposed to be set apart so that the world can see that there is a difference (not that Christians are any better than anyone else, because we are NOT). We are ALL sinners, Christians are just sinners that acknowledge that fact and choose Christ over their own flesh. Accepting Jesus is NOT all we can do. We, as Christians, are called to strive to be like Christ, not to blend into the rest of society.
I'm not brainwashed. I know where I stand. I'm just challenging you buy asking at the end of the day, is what we are doing or saying or even listening to glorifying God. By all means play minecraft. Just remember who is watching us and who, at the end of the day, we are representing.
Too those who are angered by the song or video, I am a Christian, and I think that if they thought this video would be too inappropriate, they wouldn't have put it in public. I mean, I see no skin that should not be shown, so I don't see the problem. There are way more inappropriate songs in the world. This is just one song that sounds amazing.

NeedToBreathe as a band has been though a lot. Everyone says this songs not "Christian", WHO CARES!!! Just because a Christian band makes a non Christian song does not mean that they are going to hell. They or He was trying to tell a story of a girl from Tennessee and that's it... there was nothing wrong with this song

I've been a fan of them since they first came to one of our local festivals back in 2010. They were fairly new at the time, think they'd only been out a year or so? I had to laugh that I fell in love with them immediately while my roommate at the time wrote them off as 'never going to go anywhere'. Hrm ... one of us didn't get the message at the time. X-D

This song can be interpreted as a metaphor. The “marrying kind” could be for his lack of religion at the time, and the “girl Named Tennessee” he speaks of could represent Jesus. He could be saying he didn’t want a religious life, and then he found Christ and wanted more of him. Then after a while of being saved the excitement of his newly found love could’ve worn off and that explains the near end part “she had to go”. He then realized he was no longer filled with the Spirit, so he wrote the song to express that unless we stay spiritually active, then we will not be filled with the spirit

They don’t define themselves as a Christian band, or country band, or other labels. They’re just a band.
Actually i was kind of disappointed to hear him describe the band as a "soft rock" band. Not sure where that came from. I don't think they fit any label, but maybe he thought it needed to be said to that audience or something. I prefer the more upbeat stuff personally.

I am a singer/songwriter. I write what comes to me. It might be a Christian themed song or a secular themed song. I have my limits on what I write. Because of my beliefs and moral values, I don't tie my hands by saying I only write this or that. So, I really like this band and this song as well.

Christians can make fun love songs too. There is nothing wrong with this song he was just talking about a girl he met that he finds attractive. He wasn't talking about sex or about having impure thoughts . He wasn't being vulgar or anything like that, and the girls where fully dressed unlike some musicians these days. Just because your not talking about god in a song dose not make you less of a christian. I love music with a good message just like anyone else but we have to stop putting things in a box.

Joshua Moore your original criticism was the lyrics. Is it the lyrics or the video, make up your mind before we can have a real discussion about it.
I have one question: occasionally after they chorus there is that fun sound effect. The video seems to suggest that the sound comes from the group of them singing. Is that right or is there an instrument or distortion making that noise. I used to think it was a kazoo until I saw this video.

As much as it is not good to be judgmental, I must confess that Needtobreathe overstepped the boundary through the featuring of those short-skirted ladies... however, let us not throw stones from glass houses. Hoping that they have learnt from this error, I can only quote a few words off their later song, "...leave the past where it's at."
Oh... we need more Christians to be doing love songs that espouse the true meaning of love, and not lust like our secular competitors. I believe this was the sincere motive of Needtobreathe. I still love them.

These guys were badass in 2009. Before I joined the Navy I worked security for their concert. Back then I would have put them on the same level of little known secret band as I do Dirty Heads now. Unfortunately, need to breathe seemed to be sponsored with christian rock dollars.
