Loved all of the 1st 3 of the Rocky films but this is my favorite. Clubber Lang was the ultimate nemesis ~ the mad dog fighter with Mike Tyson-like power & uncontrollable rage. Apollo stepping in as Rocky's new manager made a great story greater
Stallone also directed Rocky II, so whatever tonal shift you're trying to attribute between that and Rocky III had nothing to do with a change of director.
A reactor i watched react to Rocky 3 said Clubber was training for Murder and then when they showed clubber doing pull ups he said clubber training like he going to 15 to life and he have to keep people off his ass 😂😂
Rocky 3 and 4 are the weakest for me as it seems to focus a lot more on the 'action' comic-book side (OTT sound FX etc). I prefer the drama and heart over the action/training/masculinity stuff. Don't get me wrong, I love all that but I favour the heart side more.
while i do agree, id argue the 4 war montage against Drago had a ton of heart in it. Rocky's unrelenting persistence and desire to not stay down is a great way of showing the "hunger" message. Its action packed but out of all the fights, its the perfect visualization of fighting seemingly insourmantable odds and overcoming it through determination.
