Stallone also directed Rocky II, so whatever tonal shift you're trying to attribute between that and Rocky III had nothing to do with a change of director.

He didn't "cut his eyelid open". It was swollen shut because of blood pooling up under the skin. They made a surface cut on the skin to drain the blood.

Yes the best of the series (until Creed 2)...This movie inspired me in SO many ways. Especially physically. Letting me know that no feat is impossible to accomplish.

Rocky 3 and 4 are the weakest for me as it seems to focus a lot more on the 'action' comic-book side (OTT sound FX etc). I prefer the drama and heart over the action/training/masculinity stuff. Don't get me wrong, I love all that but I favour the heart side more.

The first 4 Rockys are just amazing.. it's debateable on which one is best but they're all 5 star blockbusters on their own.

My fav line in the film: "This guy will kill ya ta death inside of three rounds!"

Loved all of the 1st 3 of the Rocky films but this is my favorite. Clubber Lang was the ultimate nemesis ~ the mad dog fighter with Mike Tyson-like power & uncontrollable rage. Apollo stepping in as Rocky's new manager made a great story greater

Rocky may still hold the record of the lowest budget to win the Oscar for Best Picture. Star Wars and Rocky were released in the theaters 6 months apart. The steady cam was invented for Rocky. This is why you get the intimacy with the fight and the iconic montage and stair scene. Before cameras had to be mounted on a vehicle or a rail system.

too fast should have watched the whole ending like everybody else

At no time during the entire series including Rocky and Rocky 2 is Apollo Creed ever a villain. Apollo Creed is the single greatest boxer in this series. Most people don't know the history. Apollo Creed became heavyweight champ and successfully defended his title 47 times.....no other fighter....not Rocky, or Apollo's son exceeded that record. The ONLY time Creed was ever knocked down during his entire career was when Rocky knocked him down. In the Rocky series......Rocky was never portrayed as a better boxer than Apollo Creed. Rocky had very specific attributes.......he was not fast, he was not a highly skilled boxer. Rocky had a chin of granite, he could take an exceptional volume of punishment and still continue fighting and he had an incredibly powerful punch although he was slow. Apollo was near the end of an incredible career and Rocky's very specific attributes were the perfect combination to beat Creed in the second fight....never a guarantee. Apollo's character is that of a supreme warrior but a very good man as well. After being beaten by Rocky in the second fight.... he respects him and treats him with ultimate sportsmanship. Apollo said that Rocky was the hardest puncher that he had ever encountered in his entire career. Rocky was slow and not highly skilled but when he landed a punch....you felt it in your bones. Rocky went the distance in the first fight with Apollo and he won in the fight in Rocky 2 due to reasons other than boxing skill. It was personal reasons. Reasons that kept him from ever quitting even though he was completely outmatched by an absolutely superior boxer. Apollo was a great warrior, the entire series most talented boxer and a good human being. Rocky is the Sir Galahad and his wins are tied to his purity and innocense believe it or not. Watch Rocky and Rocky2 with this in mind and you'll see what I mean. In Rocky he simply wants to go the distance to prove that he's not a bum. In Rocky 2, he wins because he is grateful for fate (God) giving him back Adrian and Adrian told him to win.......so anything other than winning was not an option at all. Rocky owed the universe...he owed fate.....he owed Adrian to give her what she requested....that he win. That made him never give up no matter what. Two of the greatest films in Hollywood history.

Fun facts: the baby is played by Stallone's son Seargeoh. Based on visual cues, the run that Rocky takes with the kids is longer than a marathon. Also, Philadelphia is one of the best cities on the planet and a ton of fun. I know at least a half dozen people who got to be extras in the first 2 movies. It's a point of pride with many Philadelphians. The turtles, Cuff & Link, are still Stallone's pets. And yes, there is a statue of Rocky at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. It is kept at the bottom of a side staircase, but they bring it up top for special occasions. Burt Young (Paulie) & Talia Shire's (Adrian) reactions were genuine, as they watched a rough cut of the fight sequence.

Sly will tell you Rocky is not a sports film but a drama love story , but i get wht you mean ya R2 is probly the most under rated Rocky movie , it probly is the best fight of them all R4 would be next. But R2 is very emotional.
