Its name is Axl. Costa Rican Zebra Tarantulas are known for orange web spinnerets and striped legs. Reason for wranglers informing Stern not making sudden moves is that these tarantulas can throw hairs from their legs on to human's skin irritates the skin as self defense.
I am Macaulay Culkin's age, so seeing this in theaters as a kid was a treat for me lol. It actually made me excited to be old enough to be home alone myself lol, which didn't happen until I was 13 because that's when it's legal to be left home alone lol. As a kid I watched a LOT of Loony Toons, so I was a fan of slapstick humor by that point too.
My Dad and I watch this movie EVERY year on Christmas Eve, it has become our tradition. We watch the second one on Chris Day after my family and I eat breakfast and open up our presents.
The scene where Kevin says, "This is my house. I have to defend it." was originally meant to happen earlier in the movie, when he made it home after being being chased by the Wet Bandits and hiding in the church's Nativity scene.
Then the neighbor puts the finishing touch with probably the biggest ouch of all: shovel to the heads. 😵💫😱 I've touched hot metal by mistake in a blacksmithing class. The doorknob always gives me phantom and sympathy pain! The nail and ornaments to the feet are... about as bad! 😖
You know, most of those traps, while painful, are non-lethal and they are adults trying to get a little kid so even in a liberal jurisdiction they're probably not going after the kid despite what the memes say

I don't have a fear of spiders, but a tarantula on my face would very likely spawn a new phobia 🙂
