I somehow stumbled upon this channel in 2020 for some reason and I love your reviews. The Oblivion dialogue reference was spot on!
I mean .... I like the fact that the main character is disabled without it being a major plotpoint (99% of movies _now_ don’t have that).
But .... yeah, that’s about the only thing I like.
Having a wheelchair kid was hot in the early 90's. I remember you saw it all of a sudden on various TV shows and commercials. It showed how progressive and inclusionary you were. It would be like having trans character nowdays.
It was sympathetic marketing that was probably based on focus group testing by some corporation. There was nothing brave or risky about them having that character in there; it was purposefully done just to seem that way.
Esti Obel it makes it almost more annoying because disabled people are so desperate for representation that a shitty movie with a but that had any representation of disability at all felt good to me as a12 year old

Nothing should be written without being a plot point in the story. Throwing in a disabled guy gratuitously would make him a token concept, a theme for no reason to the story. That's just bad writing period.
The design of the aliens, and just everything about them make me physically angry.

The only good thing that has come out of this is Paul Rudd using the "wheelchair cliff-fall into a lake" scene every time he goes on "Conan." That's it.

Wow. Just...wow. This whole movie is like a nightmare time capsule of everything terrible about being a middle-class American child in the 1980's. It gave me the chills.

When he talked about the producers point of view of giving the movie to the "newer" generation it's own version of ET. I couldn't help but notice that Mac and Me came out in the same decade that "newer" generation was also growing up ET . That has to be the biggest inconsistency that has to exist outside of the movie itself.
I only found this enjoyable when a guy and puppeteers were mocking this. Also:

I don’t want to call my father abusive, but when this came out, he made us go see this instead of Who Framed Roger rabbit, and I never really forgave him for it
Kudos to you for sitting through this movie, which I wouldn't be surprised if it was just an excuse for a 90 minute long McDonald's product placement. About the only things it achieved were not having Eric be ostracized for using a wheelchair, or being Jennifer Aniston's big screen debut.

I always say this: I think it’s great they hired a disabled actor to play the lead role, but half the time he’s falling off cliffs and rolling down hills and the big highlight is a choreographed dance routine at a McDonalds, something he CAN’T participate in!
To be honest it's make it more funny
The best part of this is Paul Rudd trolling the shit out of Conan with that iconic clip LMAO
I saw this "movie" on science mystery theater 3000 and I absolutely loved the highway chase scene because I feel like they didn't hire stunt doubles and just told the actors to run into "controlled" oncoming traffic, and I use quotation marks because there are so many close calls with actors almost getting hit by speeding and swerving cars.

I adored this movie as a child, haha. Haven't watched it through in like 28 years though, so I imagine doing so again would not be particularly inspiring.

Some of the dialogue in Elder Scrolls V is alright. Paarthanax, Serana, Legate Rikke, and Karliah all do pretty decent voice acting and have meaningful characters.
I was thinking mainly of Oblivion, which you've got to admit had some pretty shocking moments.
Oh I only played Skyrim! I have seen some Oblivion footage in other RUclips clips though and it looks ghastly in terms of character and acting. Shame really because it seems like the story and gameplay and graphics were great (for the time).

I can't be the only one who doesn't like McDonald's. This film seems to be at a consistent quality to the pink slime they make there burgers from though I will give them that.

The film is bad anyway, but the presence of McDonald's - which is about as subtle as a turkey slap - takes it into unforgivable territory.
I feel sorry for the kid. He probably didn't realise what he was getting himself into, and he never appeared in a movie again.

I think you’re kinda of in a way an inspiration because you can be yourself (or what I assume an exaggerated version of yourself that you show in order to be more entertaining to your audience) even though literally thousands of people have their eyes on you. And you make content that doesn’t look bad either. All in all I guess what I’m trying to say is I think you’re cool. And sorry for going off on a tangent. I’ll do that sometimes.

The part of the main character wasn't writen for a disabled person, even though one was cast, which is great...but it does lead to a few issues. When they cast him, they changed none of the script... including the part where the mother blames him for messing up the house in a way physically impossible for him to do. Not only that, but her choice to move next to a huge hill without a fence that leads to a sheer drop suddenly makes a lot less sense, especially thinking he tried to kill himself with what would obviously be an accident with that in mind.

Oddly enough it's one of very few media that don't use the character's disability as a plotpoint or as a facet of his personality. He is a real person (a slightly boring one) who just so happens to be handicapped.
Also, so many people asked him how he became paraplegic (which he was born with IIRC) he got fed up and turned it into a joke. During one interview, he looked the reporter dead in the eye and said "Vietnam." This guy needs another movie roll.
My brother found a copy of this movie in a bargain bin somewhere and brought it home for us to watch when I was a kid. I'm not sure I even watched it all the way through...I just remember my brother mimicking the whistling and the aliens being horrible to look at.

The end of the movie sounds like it's ripping of the end of The Cat from Outer Space, a 70s movie about an alien cat named Jake that ends with him becoming an American citizen.
